The Blue Djinn is an evil genie who was apparently defeated by Lord Guano in the past. But now he's back, and he's angling to take down the Genie Lords... but how does Jeanie factor into his plans?
Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
The fact that Eden a former Genie, she might still have some Genie in stinks left in her and she has been a Genie long enough that she would probably know about the Blue Djinn too. But, being a mortal now, there very little that Ms Eden could beside worn Neil that Jeanie being posses by the Blue Djinn.
As far as we know, the only genie artifact in the building is Rouyaa’a old bottle, which is, of course, Jean’s bottle now.
So, what exactly does Rouyaa/Ms. Eden mean to the plot now? Since the Blue Djinn kills other genies, killing any ordinary human shouldn’t bother him much. But Rouyaa was one of Haji’s concubines, and has a couple of excellent reasons to hate Haji, Perhaps she could be useful for his plans. Or perhaps Ms. Eden could make herself seem useful.
The ending of I Dream of Technicolor is ambiguous, but the last panel implies that Neil and Jean actually know Ms. Eden used to be the genie of the bottle. It’s not clear (yet) if they revealed that they know to Ms. Eden. Does she know Jean’s story? Does Rouyaa even know that the Blue Djinn has gotten loose?
One plot device that was in the original series, of course, was that the Blue Djinn turned Jeannie into a genie. Does our Blue Djinn have that option? It is possible Rouyaa might want to be a genie again…
Really? All I got from the end of I Dream of Technicolor was that Jean and Neil REALLY didn’t want to think about the fact that I Dream of Jeannie ended with Jeannie and Major Nelson married and with a child. Maybe I read it wrong.
And in I Dream of Jeannie 15 years later, Haji erased Tony Nelson’s memory of Jeannie in exchange for allowing Jeannie to save his life. Does that sound a bit similar to Rouyaa’s story?
We do know from I Dream of a General that Jean kind of likes white; she “forgot” to change her hat back to red. So there is some hope we might see in a blue costume without being possessed.
@Tom Sewell – Jean really did forget to change her hat that time. It was meant to explain why she always wears it, no matter what her outfit (or form, for that matter) looks like.
Jean said that she forgot, but Jean has been known to stretch the truth. And while Jean usually wears the red hat, she did remember to lose the hat as recently as I Dream of Verisimilitude.
@Tom Sewell – the comic you linked to has her say she almost forgot to remove the hat. As far as I can tell, the lie at the end of I Dream of a General is when she claims that she’s not deliberately making her costume pink, said after Neil asks if she’s consciously choosing to make her costume super pink (and therefore girly) as opposed to pink just being the default color.
Please. This is obvious. Rouyaa’s (now Mrs. Eden’s) sister. She has *that* old bottle, until she dies, in memory of her lost sister. And since she’s been de-Genied, it also serves as a reminder: Even through someone else’s Totem, she’s non-Genie forever. Clever precaution to keep her from collecting barren totems, which keeps them in circulation.
She was her sister. …? I was thinking it would be symbolic, much like a grave or in these modern times an urn. Though I concede, CD Rudd probably *does* have something else in mind. 🙂
@Targ Collective, the other Genie that looked like Jeanie is the one that totem that belong to Rouyaa’s sister who is now Mrs. Eden. You know the Genie that got cursed by wife of Haji.
Actually we are Robert, because, Jehane is the one that picked up Evi totem after Evi died or vacated her totem. We have two empty totems here.
1. The totem that Rouyaa had that Jean got and became Jeanie with.
2. The totem that Evi had and went empty for a few year after World War 2 that Jehane picked up.
Even Haji wife was saying bad things about that totem the Jehane as being a bad Totem. Yes, there both sister Evi and Rouyaa are in fact sister and it was Jeanie and Jehave that got those two Totem after they got vacated by those two sister Genie’s.
Remember that it was Jehane who found Evee’s old bottle. And the last person in the storyline so far too hold that bottle was Jehane herself in #454. Now it’s been more than fifty years since 1973 when that was supposed to have happened, so Jehane could have had many masters–or none. And there’s no proof Jehane knew anything about Rouyaa’s sister, the previous occupant of the bottle, until Jehane was chained and her costume changed in #477. Still, that’s time for a lot of things to happen that haven’t been revealed in the story so far.
The Blue Djinn and Ms. Eden a former genie this is gonna get good.
@Larry Like most genies Rouyaa (AKA Mss Eden)did know about the Blue Djinn, she in fact games our very first reference to the character!
*instincts
Blue doesn’t seem to compromise with his own plan of “keeping the stupid human happy”, does he?
So this will either end very badly….or the Blue Djinn will be discovered and her plans will be foiled.
I wonder the chances of the second option happening are?
We already know that the Blue Djinn going to get discovered sooner or late. We just don’t know when or where it going to go yet.
Why not both? seems way more entertaining.
In the end, how will this story end???
With an ending, most likely.
Not necessarily…..there could be a twist and it actually ends with an epilogue, or even a tease for a sequel comic (cue dramatic hamster music)
Please tell me she senses something other than the bottle . . .

it that the mimic trap growing in the background? that purple thingy, right?
It does look like it, and it has gotten quite large.
I believe mimic traps are supposed to be carnivorous. Surely you have heard of The Little Shop of Horrors?
That mimic trap looks as if it already opened and released its package. See the gray smoke above it in the first frame.
Is it possible that big bad blue realised that Ms Eden could actually be the genie artifact
It’s not the bottle, then?
i like the blue costume better than the pink….
I like it, too! Blue looks really good on Jeanie.
Too bad she has to wear it while being possessed by a evil genie soul. I would have liked to see Jeannie wearing that Blue outfit as herself.

When would Rouyaa have had an opportunity to collect her sister’s totem?

Hmm, I’m pretty sure that Evi was Rouyaa’s sister. I could be misremembering that, but it seems right…
@Larry: No, we’re not talking about Jehane. We’re talking about Evi, who was Hitler’s genie back during World War 2.

Rouyaa and Evii are half sisters,
