Jeanie Bottle 478
A note from CD Rudd:
So, just under a year ago, before the start of this storyline, I put out the word asking for genie OCs. I got a great number of responses! Sadly, I couldn’t use all of them, as some didn’t fit the storyline and unfortunately there were too many to use all of them. I did try to use as many as I could, though.
This comic has all the OCs I used (mostly as background characters). I’d like to thank everyone who sent me their Original Genie Character to include in this story. If your genie OC didn’t make it in to this story, worry not, as I may still use them in future stories. If you see your Genie OC, make sure to ID her in the comments below, and tell the other readers about your OC. I’ll eventually be making a wallpaper out of the final panel, for anyone wishing to have a higher resolution image of their Genie OC.
Thanks, everyone who sent me there Genie OC and all the readers. I hope everyone enjoyed seeing the different genies. 🙂
P.S. Check out the Jeanie Bottle Fan Art page for some new art of Natalie and Rodge, drawn by th3go.
hope the right genie is being punished
She’s not.
We only saw the “dingus” missing while the three left the vault. Who is to say that they didn’t go missing BEFORE the genies entered?
Maybe we need a genie who watched a lot of “Colombo”. “Ahh, sorry to keep coming back Alya, but something’s been bothering me…”
@Greenhornet:
What’s more, we don’t even know that the ones that appeared “missing” were in fact supposed to be there. Just because there’s an empty space doesn’t mean that anything’s wrong – that one could have been legitimately left empty.
CD is pretty good at misdirection. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next. My money is on Kazom coming up with an answer.
Kinda feel like this storyline was a bit of a waste of time. Nothing really happened of any importance (save for Jehane which…didn’t really matter). What was the thing in her hat, anyway?
Oh well, hopefully something has happened with Natalie and Rodge that can’t easily be poofed back to normal.
What is up with people jumping so far to conclusions in the comments recently? This storyline is far from over, so judging it as a “waste of time” is extremely premature.
And I guess you didn’t read closely enough, since they very clearly said it was a Hubun Jadid in Jehane’s hat.
I’ve found this storyline, save for the whole ‘Natalie is actually a woman’ thing to be boring and lacking any sort of tension or stakes. Yes,it’s not over yet, but clearly if there’s been more than just one person saying things similar to my comment then, well, not all the stories can be winners.
And I don’t know what a Habun Jadid is. I never watched the show and unless I missed a comic somewhere, it hasn’t been explained what they actually are.
@Contact_Lost
They do definitely explain what a Hubun Jadid is in this story’s arc. Pages 443 & 445 would tell you about them.
The hubun Jadids were introduced in this very storyline, so read again. They are ultra powerful gems that would make a mortal Genie as powerful as a Genie Lord. Or something. Jeannie looked very greedy when she saw them.
It’s Jehane, the German-origin mortal djinn who got punished here. She was yet another fan of the Eden show, which is why she looks like Jeannies twin. You can tell them apart through their trousers: Jehane has round applications, Jeannie has pointed ones.
IF Jeannie is the real culprit, she has stolen two Jadids, teleported one in Jehane’s hat and kept the other. That would be really messed up so I hope it’s something else. Maybe they aren’t twins but triplets?
Just speaking for myself, the Natalie/Rodge storyline is very compelling, but with the one-a-week updates, it’s just taking forever for the full story to unfold. Speculation gets the best of us as fans.
Well I enjoyed it
Really? A waste of time?
First, this is a builder storyline, it’s intent is to give us some background and information that will come into play in upcoming stories.
Secondly, we learnt more about genie society, particularly outside the limited scope of Cocoa Beach. We learnt about different kinds of genies, political and social order of the genies. The arch-type of the genie world and how it functions.
Third, we got many gimpses into elements I cannot go into without spoiling future story plots.
Fourth, we met new characters, including Haji’s First (Libab), Alya, Jahane, and Lord Tan Den, all of which may appear in future storylines. We also had a revisit from Kazom, so we know he’s still in play even if MC isn’t producing comics. And we observed Araceli in a deeper role then we normally do of Jeanie’s rival.
Fifth, many readers got to see there genie OC characters used in the comic.
Sixth, the story isn’t even done yet… unless you think Rodge and Neil(Natalie) are going to spend the rest of there lives in a movie theatre.
I liked the worldbuilding.
I think Natalie wouldn’t mind that last idea.
Geez, the guy is allowed his opinion, even if you think it was wrong. It looked more like he was saying he was bored with the story than it being bad.
I’m surprised there’s only one non human genie. I also wish we could have learned more about the other genies and which ones used to be human.
I’m surprised there isn’t some kind of orientation for humans turned genies.
Actually if you look closely there are “two” clearly non-human genies.
The one with pointed ears and the one with pink/purple skin.
If you remember Kazom said that the movie Aladdin made several humans become blue genies. So it may be a sign that they weren’t human before, it’s still definitely possible. It all depends on their interpretation of a genie before that become one.
It’s hard to tell who used to be a human verses who was born a genie, given the ways a genie comes about being. But whichever way it happens, their society just treats each new genie the same way in training them for a lifetime of servitude (See Stories 3 & 4).
@Jaqui:
Well, there kind of IS a training session for new genies; it’s just that Jeannie’s attitude along with Kazom’s personal peeve with Guano, combined to cut it short.
I think Bachman suddenly being out of the picture spoiled C.D.’s original plan for how the story would develop. And ending here with Jehane in chains doesn’t seem right at all.
On the other hand, there’s lots for Jean to do back home, what with Rodge and Natalie and Agent Anderson and Belle and that angry mob of women he slept with before Belle.
BTW, if Jehane isn’t guilty, doesn’t that mean one of the OC genies is the culprit? Hope the lucky creator appreciates the honor.
Was Melvin Chronicles supposed to crossover with this story?
There was going to be some Melvin C. crossover aspects in the next few stories. But with Bach-mann leaving, I’ve had to re-tweek the storylines.
Eg. In the next story, we’re going to meet another character that was suppose to be introduced in Melvin C. earlier. But I guess we’ll meet the character in the next story.
I’m still hoping that Melvin will be picked back up soon, so that the story can continue, I liked the story line.
hopefully Jean can turn Neil back to normal, before things go too far.
I want Natalie to stay forever.
My hopes are the exact opposite. 🙂
We don’t know how much time has passed between the Natalie and Rodge at the movie, and the conclusion of the genie harem assembly.
So for all we know things have already gone to far with Natalie and Rodge.
Also their could be a time difference between Haji’s palace and the outside world.
Maybe he can be Natalie at home, and become Neil when it’s time to go to work. Best of both worlds.
That would be pretty interesting! It’d be like Neil is Natalie’s secret identity.
I’d like more internal emotional turmoil in the Neil/Natalie character, with the Neil personality often waking up and saying things like “What am I saying?” and “No, wait! I’m a man, a heterosexual man!” and “Nooooo!” Or if he complained about such things to Jeannie when she finally changes him back, who of course wouldn’t listen and would change him back to Natalie the next time she felt like it.
I doubt Genie Lord Than DENSE could actually manage to solve any real crimes; he seems no different than a stereotypical, arrogant know-it-all-nothing police sleuth that doesn’t really uncover anything important and just casts out a presumptuous condensing attitude on everything.
I hope they got someone with a real brain in their head to track down the Blue Djinn instead of him. Agent Andersen would even do.
I have a feeling that we haven’t seen the last of Kazom, here. He probably has more brains that all the rest put together.
Are you suggesting that Agent Anderson be given an empty bottle? 🙂
The government probably has a few bottles socked away in the same warehouse with the Ark of the Covenant.
I still say that there is no way that the government (in the Jeanie-verse) is unaware that genies and witches exist.
Lahab (the wife) seems to have a real brain …
They are all just so cute! Now everyone group hug! Hope so see the pink short one again.
I like the outfit on the brunette on the extreme right. That’s cute. That would make a good Halloween costume… hmmm.
I have a funny feeling that all of this turned out exactly the way the Blue Djinn planned.
And I still wonder if there’s a 3rd Jeannie-double wandering around somewhere.
I gotta admit this is actually an interesting tale, and looking forward to reading more ^_^!
(Sorry for double posting, but theres no edit button anywhere o_O)
I didn’t know you can submit your own Oc for this O_O!… I mean was this for a contest I haven’t heard about?
The OC were asked for last April on Deviantart. I don’t recall all the submissions/contributers off the top of my head, but I do know one of the genies (2nd left of Araceli, with the light blue hair) was a submission in your style Hachimitsu-ink. If she wasn’t your submission, then she was a submission by someone who had a commission done by you.
I don’t think I submitted mines yetr, I think that is someone else because the characterfor my oc is rounder with a ponytail and has two smaller bangs on the inside, basically her hair is somewhat open to expose her forehead. The top looks like it but isn’t but the bottom isn’t since theres a gold trim. (Plus she never wear high heels O_O).
I will send you more information about it along with an artwork I am working on!
You know, I smell a sting, and a certain savvy pussy cat might be behind it! This set up is all too staged.
I liked the “back to the harem” storyline. I wonder which Jeanie it was who seduced the guard. I wonder who stole the Hubun Jadid(s). Was mind control involved?
And if you look, there is a blue genie to the center-left of the line. 🙂
What a wide variety of genies. Makes you wonder how they are serving their master(s). Probably not in Jeanie’s carefree, independent style.
Now back to Neil/Natalie, quick! Before something really bad happens!
> Before something really bad happens!
Don’t you mean “something really good”? 🙂
Also, what is with all the “pissy” commenters at the top? Most online strips are one-a-week. CD and most of these strip writers are extremely hard working, ( workaholic) ultra creative, and very much in demand individuals trying to balance a day job and the other 10,000 things they do in a day. I find CD’s strips to be very well thought out and fun. You need to actually read them, not just skim. Making negative, uniformed comments, makes you look a bit childish.
Totally agreed.
Funny how one gets the results one wants. Out of there, no fuss, no muss. (Except for Innocent Genie, I guess.)
Why is that one pink hair’d genie with the ponytail trying to climb on top of two other genies?
I think she’s too short to see the speaker, so she’s levitating to get a better view. Handy.
I think she might be a centaur, or maybe a naga.
Looking again, I see her legs sort of wrapped around the genie in pink and red and that genie’s right arm is behind our genie’s back, supporting her. Maybe mother and daughter? Sisters? Anyway, I guess this is Dan’s way to get one last genie into the picture.
A centaur genie would have been neat, though, and a naga, neater.
So many belly buttons. Did you forget a few, or just got tired?
Considering that Jehane didn’t have one, either, I imagine that many genies don’t, for whatever reason. I mean, their bodies are made of magic. They don’t have to conform perfectly to human anatomy.
Jehane didn’t have one because her outfit was based on the original show’s outfit, which didn’t show her belly button (too racy), and she only saw the series reruns, not the movie. Jean’s outfit shows the belly button because the belly button (ooo, sexy) was shown in the movie, and that’s the image that stuck.
This was a LOT to draw in a short amount of time.
I believe that. Every time I have to draw a crowd scene I experience a minor panic attack.
let’s see what happened with natalie
the drawing of th3go has a lot of clothes
Since there were two guards at the door guarding the Hubun Jadids, how could Jahane get in by taking out only one guard. I think she was trying to get into the library. I’m calling Perry mason.
Think there’s a genie version Sherlock Holmes somewhere who can solve this?
Now the angle changed between panels 3 and 4 so it’s kind of hard to say for sure, but if you go back to page: https://jeaniebottle.com/?comic=jeanie-bottle-445 and look. On the top row in panel 3 there is one hubun jadid missing in front of them At they turn in panel 4, there are an additional 2 empty ‘sockets’ on the bottom row, starting two columns to the right. ‘Assuming’ the empty socket (which is empty in both panel 3 and 4) is the same socket in both panels, then the two empty ones in the bottom row were present in panel 3 and missing in panel 4. i.e. one of those three present stole them. Jeannie has a wicked-ish smile on her face in panel 2, looking like she’s either planning mischief or checking out the shirtless guard (guessing the former) and seems to be casing the vault in panel 3. I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that Jeannie is the guilty party here. Especially with her satisfied look at Jehane getting blamed for stealing one. Perhaps Jeannie is not fully under her own control? This seemed to be hinted at in page: https://jeaniebottle.com/?comic=jeanie-bottle-436 given ‘someone’ is talking inside the lamp and then a shadowy Jeannie does something shady before vanishing.
We don’t know that there were two guards when Jahane (or another look-alike) approached the vault. All we know is that there were two EARLIER.
And for that matter, we don’t know how many other guards may have had something else happen to them – all we heard about was the one who was close to dead.
Idk how many times it’s been said so far, but these older genies are prideful idiots.
Just like any human government, huh?
Kazom is on the case. We can still bring in agent Anderson and Melvin. Remember, Red still needs to get her stuffing back.
Well it appears I was wrong about all of these genies being “invited” instead of “summoned” to the palace. That puts a major wrinkle in my theory about how the Blue Djinn planned to attack Haji.
Now I’m not sure how anything of what we saw fits together.
You never know – there’s only a smidgen of difference sometimes between an invitation and a summons. Like when your boss says you’re “invited” to a meeting – sometimes that really means, “get your ass in here, pronto.“
You mean sometimes it doesn’t?
Oh Hey. That’s Saphaia.
Which one is your Saphaia?
Fifth from the left?
Addendum
I may have dismissed the Blue Djinn too quickly. Jean doesn’t keep a low profile after being warned about the Blue Djinn. The Blue Djinn may have placed Jean under his control at that time, which is why, when Jean refuses to go to the palace, she then sleep-poofs to the palace (pages 436-7). It would explain why Jean smirks at the guard on page 445, as the guard was the Blue Djinn’s accomplice. That guard attacked the other guard after Lehab and the two genies left the vault, in order to obfuscate when the HJ were stolen. The Blue Djinn then used Jean to plant the HJ in Jehane’s hat, and laughed at getting away with it. Whether Lehab is involved in this plot or stealing an HJ on her own, I don’t know, but the Blue Djinn and Lehab are both probably running low on magic, and may have figured out how to repower themselves using the HJ. Jehane is probably having an affair with the library guard.
That’s a very convoluted theory. Too complicated, really. There are simply too many things that it fails to actually explain.
Poor Haji .. didn’t get to see the new genies .. on his birthday.
Ya know something? What if it’s Lahab that’s plotting stuff?
