Chapter: Story 16: I Dream of Nostalgia
Characters: Rouyaa
Something that I don’t believe anyone noticed (or at least, no one pointed out), is that when Andy-Neil picked up that snowglobe during their visit to this apartment, he put it back down in a very precarious position, due to being distracted by Rouyaa-Jeanie’s amorous behaviour.
You may notice cameos of Peach and Cream.
So, Peach and Cream are moving into Neil’s old apartment and original Rouyaa going to have a lot of questions. But hey she got some of her youth back.
She definitely looks to be under 50 in this scene, so she’s not elderly any more. Since she says that she’s still mortal, that suggests she may have gained about thirty years of lifespan.
Unless she just looks young but is still old on the inside.
Sounds like an appropriatly nasty trick for blue.
Hopefully Rouyaa’s got insurance, cause she’s gonna need it to get a chiropractor.
She worked in the NASA commissary for several decades. One way or another, the ID problem had to be solved for that to happen. And in doing so, she must have earned Medicare. Whether she has access to her Medicare card now might be a problem as might her time missing and the fact she looks physically different from before being sealed away. But it’s safe to say she at least earned it and would be acknowledged by the government as over 65, even though that’s an underestimated by a lot.
She may have applied for Social Security since she certainly looked old enough. If so, those checks are direct deposit, so she’ll still have access to some money. Obviously, no one reported her missing/deceased, or the apartment would have been reassigned to a new renter.

They must have messed up the numbering when they repaired that explosion.
I’ve seen a few apartments that had two entrances. One door enters the living room, the other the kitchen. Especially when the kitchen is in the back of the apt.

With the snow globe falling it could have broken the bottle.
Correct, she was trapped in a glass bottle by the Blue Djinn, back during that arc. The snow globe landed on the bottle, which was barely sticking up from under the dresser, and both of them broke open.
If her rent and utilities are on automatic payment, then the landlord is not going to be replacing her as a tenant.
There was a case where a woman had everything set to auto pay from her account
She was dead for 2 years before someone noticed

I still wonder about that picture on the wall. I know what it reminds me of…but it could be in hundreds of other places.
That’s because it IS in hundreds of other places, Robert. It’s a fairly famous photo called, “Autumn Lake Red Leaves”.

To be honest, I just grabbed a common picture from the internet I thought Rouyaa would have on her wall.
Well, it reminds me of a place in Upstate New York called Val-Kill—you might have heard of it, Eleanor Roosevelt lived there. I found a picture of the lake in the spring from a similar angle, and it might be the same lake…
I hope Rouyaa doesn’t feel cheated when she learns the younger version of herself is getting the life with Andy she always wanted.
This Rouyaa doesn’t actually remember Andy (beyond that she had a master she fell in love with), so maybe not?
Amnesia-Rouyaa did form a new friendship with Andy despite being unaware that he was the Master she sought. Rouyaa-Jeanie and Andy-Neil saw the picture of them together when they visited Rouyaa’s apartment.
Hmm… Rouyaa would know that genies can’t be photographed, so that photo would have been proof to her that Haji had indeed had her made mortal.

The Blue Djinn made her younger, again, so she may not need them any more.
YES, Rouyaa is back.
We couldn’t leave her stuck in that bottle forever.
Now that she’s free, of course, the next trick is how does Rouyaa get properly connected to the rest of the characters? And this may happen soon or after a while. She does know there’s a connection to Jeanie due to meeting her possessed by the Blue Djinn ( https://jeaniebottle.com/?comic=jeanie-bottle-506 ). Heard to guess if she’d be afraid to see Jeanie, after this. Her experience is so limited, she might not know what’s going on. Though she knows the Blue Djinn didn’t return for her, which he’d promised to do. Still, Jeanie is her only lead. But Jeanie and Neil have since moved twice. Might be a while to find them. It’s not established if Rouyaa still worked at NASA’s lunch counter, which would give a chance to encounter Neil, assuming she tries to return and her identity is accepted after being missing and looking younger. Would other genies or djinn be able to detect her now that she’s free, somehow? Would any want to find her? Or at least happen to find her? Anyway, I’m glad she’s free, now. I hope she doesn’t end up homeless.
So now there are two Rouyaa’s? Im confused
This one is the “real” Rouyaa with her original body and soul, though made mortal. There is also now a copy-Rouyaa traveling together with a copy-Andy, thanks to Jeanie giving new bodies to their stored memories. The two Rouyaas have their memories diverge after the point where Rouyaa met Andy—Copy-Rouyaa remembers him as her Master for fortyish years, but nothing after she broke Haji’s law, while Original-Rouyaa does not remember Andy as her Master, but remembers having him as a friend and neighbor for thirtyish years after she became mortal.
Actually, they’re easy to tell apart: Original-Rouyaa is a brunette; Copy-Rouyaa is a blonde.
Just think of them as different characters from the originals. Different looks, personalities, back stories, age, etc.
Original Rouyaa (Miss Eden) is still technically a genie but being punished with morality. So she has no bottle to return too, no master, she ages, gets ill and magic is even more limited then elderly genies (like Kazom).
Van-life Rouyaa (Ray) has never been a genie, and technically is barely human. She just has some knowledge of being a genie, but mainly remembers her life with Andy up to the time Haji removed her memories from Original Rouyaa.
The only similarity they have now is there names. To easy the confusion, I generally call original Rouyaa by her full name (Miss Eden for her elderly version) and Van-life Rouyaa I normally refer to as Ray now. I also use VL (which stands for Van-life) when I refer to them in the tags, or when I refer to both characters at the same time.)
Andy is a little more confusing, but since elder Andy is no longer with us, there shouldn’t be too hard to figure out which one we’re talking about at any given point. The VL for (younger) Andy will also be used when referring to both at the same time.
You speak as if we’ll be seeing Ray and VL Andy again in the future.

We may… or may not. I have plots planned out, but not that far. (They are also heading to California, maybe they’ll appear in Melvin’s Chronicles.)
I have to ask. Will Rouyaa and Neil hook up together? Again –does the space ship count?
My favorite aspect of this series is seeing Jeanie grow as a person and a genie. It feels like this is the cusp of a major shift. Could be discovering her full power which was provided by Blue. Could be generosity. Could be a fall. All I know is I am looking forward to see what happens next.
It’s implied that indefinitely maintaining two constructs to give Ray and Andy new life is *seriously* taxing Jeanie’s Blue-derived power. It may be that she’ll now be closer in power level to the other genies.
And balance returns to the universe…
