Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
I’m pretty sure that Genies don’t care at all about sex. Didn’t Kazom mention that Jeanie could “have all the human sex she wants” back at the start of the previous storyline? Genies only seem to care about what genies do with other genies, ignoring mortals entirely.
Yes, but if Jeanie prefers foreplay to actual sex with a human, she might also prefer foreplay to actual sex with Genies. That’s something that could seriously affect her relationship (and her relations) with her future husband.
We don’t know a lot about the social elements of genie society.
We know that being gay is rare and supposedly frowned upon by the general population but that does not mean it’s unheard of, otherwise how would Guano even know that he’s gay and just plain not interested?
We know that Haji maintains a harem and according to The Blue Djinn draws some of his power and longevity from his concubines. That may or not be true, but Guano would certainly want to keep up appearances considering his nature.
Lahab was pretty specific when she was counseling Jeanie during the I Dream of Separation arc, Jeanie can pretty much enjoy the pleasures of the mortal realm however she pleases and I’m sure sex with her master(s) is allowed.
@Shadowrnnr: “how would Guano even know that he’s gay?”
He may NOT know; this might be a conclusion that Lahab has reached on her own. As has been noted, Guano isn’t very self-aware, so it’s entirely possible that he’s just deluded himself.
@Kattgirl: Good point. Assuming he doesn’t know his attitude towards Jeanie might be explained by his just disliking women in general. Having no understanding of women would certainly explain his behavior on page 30, panel 2.
@Shadowrnnr: I think the key to Guano’s behavior is in panels 3 & 4 of page 385. Before that point in time, he comes across as mild and even sort of pleasant in a kind of a timid, nebbishy way.
But then Rouyaa chews him out and tells him to strighten up and act like a real genie lord, which she describes as “confident, strong and forceful”, and “never wrong”.
It seems like Guano took this the wrong way, (Gee, imagine that!) and interpreted it as meaning “You should be a complete ass-hat at all times”. Subsequently, he’s seen behaving like you mentioned. Probably now, after 50+ years of that, it’s become an ingrained habit.
Jean learns that for women, there’s more to sex than the one thing men are most interested in.
Just checking, but Jean has had sex twice as a woman, right?
So you assume all men are just interested in “one thing”?
Jean was a narcissistic pick up artist. He just discovered “making love” through the relationship between Rouyaa and Andy, which she lived through Neil and herself.
When they started selling toys after the first Harry Potter movie was so successful, one of the early toys was a broom for each of the trio. Hermione’s broom vibrated, and it was a very successful product. When the company figured out WHY it was so successful, especially with older girls, they were quickly taken off the market.
That was the Nimbus 2000 toy, Harry’s broom. I don’t recall if they had ones for the others. But yeah, the young boys it was marketed toward didn’t use it nearly as much as the older sisters of the young boys it was marketed toward.
No, that’s the least of their problems.
This is a marriage of (in)convenience. We learned from Lahab that Guano is gay, so a normal relationship is already doomed, and he needs Jeanie to validate his rule with an heir. Jeanie is hated by most of genie kind because they still associate her with Blue’s murderous rampage, and she needs Guano to keep from being tossed into The Pitt along with Blue’s remaining followers who would like nothing more than to strangle her.
Really Jean? Is that ALL you’re mad about? Not the abduction, forced into a royal marriage, being trussed up like a turkey and paraded in front of a very angry genie populous? How about how no one in the genie realm seems to give a shit what you want or will even listen to you?
I think this is the first time she’s had the chance to actually talk to another genie here and this is what’s foremost on her mind. I guess that’s not entirely unwarranted though.
Well, this is her first chance to unload this emotional baggage with women whom she can at least semi-trust. The only other person she could have spoken with about it was the humanized Rouyaa before she departed, and Jeanie still hadn’t fully processed the event at that time.
I wonder how much of Genie-dom knows that Guano is gay? Does Guano has a male lover. If so, is that fact known or is it a secret? Who is that lover; most likely, he’s a member of the Genie aristocracy? What is his role? Does he hold a place in Court? How does he feel about Guano’s impending marriage to Jeanie and the need for Guano to produce an heir?
Considering Lahab said that Genie society is slow to accept things, being gay is likely still treated the same way it used to be; i.e., criminal. So if he does have a lover, it was have to be incredibly secret. Assuming he had or still has a lover.
What I’m curious about is whether or not he needs to have a harem. Blue’s words imply that the Haji has always had a harem to draw magic from, so it may be mandatory. Is Guano expected to choose them himself, or is that a job for his First? I’m also assuming that as his First, part of Jeanie’s duties are to be the Den Mother for the harem.
Is this some kind of magical liquid lava? Im trying to comprehend what kind of lava that can be splashed around in…. I know, im questioning the logic in the magical genie comic. Time travel fine, genderbending adventures fine, but splooshy lava!? Madness!
Some varieties of lava can be thin and fairly runny. More to the question, though, is how they manage to submerge, as the density of lava is fairly high, about 2.5 to 2.8 times greater than that of a human body. So genies must be quite a bit denser than humans; at least as much as most metals. Who’da thought?
Genies emit a sort of natural force shield that pushes the molten rock away from direct contact with their skin and allows them to bask in the heat like a really, really warm hot tub. Now, before anyone counters my thesis with logic this particular pool is only 2 or 3 feet deep, so the genie won’t sink.
I think it’s amazing that Jean would actually admit to liking any part of sex as a female, but the wording strongly implies that the foreplay and the sex were separate events, which means fooling around on the shuttle was just foreplay without sex while the prom night debacle was just sex without foreplay. Which certainly makes sense as both the teenage and older versions of Jean would want to get down to the sex as quickly as possible, just for very different reasons.
On page 788 Jeanie clearly states to Kazom that she had woman sex because she’s worried about that “lightbulb genie baby” things, and she strongly suggests on page 758 that it happened again in the shuttle otherwise she wouldn’t have told Neil that “it’s never, ever, EVER happening again!”
I think it’s obvious that teen Jean would be more interested in the final outcome rather than how his date got there with him, while Andy/Neil would be more considerate making her second bout of intimacy more pleasurable but shadowed by her experience with Jean. With only the two sessions to form an opinion, it’s obvious why she’d like the foreplay more than the actual sex.
Well, it’s been established that reproduction among genies is accomplished through magic; whether or not that includes any physical coupling has yet to be determined. So it’s possible that genies may not even consider physical sex to be a part of the process.
They may not know you use to be a guy before becoming a genie. Always a hot tub nice way to relax for stress I heard.
Maybe not the best thing to discuss with your future Mother-in-law in the tub!
Shula’s reaction is more relaxed then I would have expected. Given Jean is betrothed to Guano.

Yes, but if Jeanie prefers foreplay to actual sex with a human, she might also prefer foreplay to actual sex with Genies. That’s something that could seriously affect her relationship (and her relations) with her future husband.
Wouldn’t that depend on whether she enjoys the giving or the getting aspect of foreplay?
that’s a very good question, she enjoy giving, receiving or both
Considering her husband is gay, I don’t think so.
On the plus side, I don’t think Guano will give a hoot about Jeanie dating Neil as long as they keep it private aka outside the genie realm.
We don’t know a lot about the social elements of genie society.

I kind of assumed that they went all the way, by Jennie’s reaction after the fact.
Jean discovers another fact of being female. 🙂
Jean discovers the difference between having sex and making love.
Jean learns that for women, there’s more to sex than the one thing men are most interested in.
Just checking, but Jean has had sex twice as a woman, right?
Correct. Once at prom with herself/Jean and once in the space shuttle with Neil/Andy.
So you assume all men are just interested in “one thing”?
Jean was a narcissistic pick up artist. He just discovered “making love” through the relationship between Rouyaa and Andy, which she lived through Neil and herself.
Well, I would sure as hell hope they are!
She should poof herself up a Hitachi Magic Wand

I still don’t understand WHY they taken it off the market. It was educational.
It was probably discontinued because some moral guardians were screaming that the company was selling “sex toys” to underaged girls.
Could be a problem in her upcoming marriage to Prince Guano. Does he know what foreplay is?
I’m not entirely certain he knows what girls are.
He’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
That’ll be another problem in their marriage.
No, that’s the least of their problems.

Guano’s as sharp as a trailer hitch.

Lahab said it was a very little-known fact. So probably just her, Shula, Jeanie, and maybe a tiny number of others.
Considering Lahab said that Genie society is slow to accept things, being gay is likely still treated the same way it used to be; i.e., criminal. So if he does have a lover, it was have to be incredibly secret. Assuming he had or still has a lover.

Robert, you deserve your own Genie. I recommend Alya.

It strikes me that Kazom and Shula have something in common, human sex does not seem like a very big deal.
Well, it’s been established that reproduction among genies is accomplished through magic; whether or not that includes any physical coupling has yet to be determined. So it’s possible that genies may not even consider physical sex to be a part of the process.
O.K. This is going to be a bit of culture shock.
