Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
A good point—will using Atlantis run afoul of Haji’s standing prohibition against meddling with government space programs, and will Jeanie’s status as bride of Haji’s Heir Apparent matter here?
I was in an Air Force Security Police Squadron (90th SPS) in the 70s. We patrolled the Minuteman Missile Field in Nebraska and were then transferred to the on-base Weapons Storage Area at FE Warren.
For the simple experience of being in space, then, yes, a simple air-filled tank would be enough. But he was ruminating over what it would be like to be in space in the Space Shuttle, a much more specific concept.
They might remember the version from the first movie, which was (in canon) the same ship from the original series but updated. Until 1982, that’s all anyone had seen on either silver or big screen, and Columbia first flew in 1981, so I’d be very surprised if they remember even the teaser shot of NCC 1701-A.
Of course, making any of them would run into the energy issues mentioned below by Paradox and 50sRefugee…
Making it have a functional warp drive would probably cost a lot of magic, since she would have to cover for her lack of knowledge of warp physics by making it magic-powered.
Is Rouyaa keeping track of the spell duration? Because she is wasting valuable time instead of searching for her real self and maybe finding a way to get her and the real Andy back together.
Acquiring an object which already exists would cost the least energy, although Jeanie tends to be especially lax in ensuring that nobody comes looking for stolen property. Also, it seems that transforming something into X is leas costly than creating X from the ground up— probably she would have to draw atoms of the necessary elements from the environment in order to create an object from scratch.
Furthermore, there is the matter of authenticity. First of all, as Jeanie inplied when she said that she could not accurately duplicate a Kibble Burger, it takes skill and experience to get it just right. Second, certain objects, such as artworks or banknotes, derive their value from their provenance—created money would be counterfeit.
Jeanie thought it was easier to time travel than to conjure up a couple of hamburgers. And she probably knows more about hamburgers than this one knows about space shuttles. (Granted, though, I’m on record as saying that if Neil were any kind of Master, he’d have Wished to go on tours of the solar system. And we know Jeanie could poof herself to Mars…
That’s an interesting look on Jeannie’s face, though she certainly seems to either not care about the jeanie she’s in feelings or is assuming she has a similar interest in her master.
Two random thoughts:
The missing shuttle reminds me of the missing power reactor core in Pratchett and Gaimen’s Good Omens. The funny thing there was that generators continued to produce power….
And Rouyaa/Jeanie’s expression in the last panel makes me wonder what free-fall activities she plans for Andy. C’mon, folks, this is crucial research for the space colonization effort!
Yeah, this is going to be pretty hard not to cover up and Agent Anderson might just show up.
Rouyaa, I know you’re trying to score, but you don’t have to take every off-hand comment as a direct wish….
Are you surprised? Remember how she got de-genied in the first place?
Stealing expensive things to grant a wish/desire was Jeanie’s schtick. I wonder who’s actually in charge of that body.
A good point—will using Atlantis run afoul of Haji’s standing prohibition against meddling with government space programs, and will Jeanie’s status as bride of Haji’s Heir Apparent matter here?
IMHO not if noone finds out it was in space.
All LEOs be prepared to arrest Hugo Drax.
I wonder if this will lead to a James Bond cameo.
Is that Law Enforcement Officer or Low Earth Orbit?
I’m meant Law Enforcement Officer.
Whoopsie

I was 81250 at Clarke AFB RP, 3rd Security Police Group in the mid-90’s, 3rd Security Police Group. We walked the nuke storage area.
I played a Bond girl in Moonraker.
Oh, wait… that was someone else, wasn’t it? Never mind.
She might as well have created a spacecraft than magicly unmothballed and recommissioned an old one.
An air tight tank with windows would be good enough for five minutes.
Doesn’t have to take off. Doesn’t have to reenter.
For the simple experience of being in space, then, yes, a simple air-filled tank would be enough. But he was ruminating over what it would be like to be in space in the Space Shuttle, a much more specific concept.
Space Shuttle – pfffft! That’s nothing.
I would have asked for a fully-operational Starship Enterprise !
NX-01, NCC-1701 (no suffix, -A,-B,-C,-D,-E variants)
Let’s be specific here

(a couple hours later)

Sad when one of your major exhibits legs it, right?
Yeah, I always hate it when that happens.
Ruins the whole day it does, and trying to catch the thing while it scampers off can be embarrassing.
Shouldn’t the CanadArm (sp?) have left with the Atlantis as well? After all, it is a part of the shuttle too.
Good point.
Rouyaa, you’re just as bad as Jeanie.
Neil, I told you to be careful what to wish for but everyone did see this comming.
Bad Rouyaa! Don’t steal Jeannie’s shtick!
Jeanie, this is how you please your master, and fulfill your own genie nature.
Of course, there is an alternative:

Really? Why didn’t she just poof a COPY of the shuttle instead of appropriating the real thing?
Low Profile doesn’t seem to be her thing.
I imagine appropriating the real thing uses far less magic
Remember, a genie’s lifespan is tied to how much magic they have, the more they squander it, the shorter their lifespan
This probably makes genies very lazy with their magic, using the minimum amount they can

Hmm… an idea for fanfiction maybe? Jeanie Bottle, Across the 8th Dimension!
That’s an interesting look on Jeannie’s face, though she certainly seems to either not care about the jeanie she’s in feelings or is assuming she has a similar interest in her master.
She had a similar ‘come hither’ look on page 741.
And this right here is why they invented the saying “Be careful what you wish for” XD.
Why did the shuttle’s robot arm get left behind?
I’m guessing that it’s a separate exhibit from the shuttle itself.

Indeed!
If Jeanie and Neil are sharing any of these experiences, it might trigger some interesting future activities.
Given what Jeanie had to say when briefly reasserting control and speaking to Kazom, she remembers most of what Rouyaa was doing with her body.
She’s probably going to re-enact the last scene from “Moonraker”, only she’ll be moaning “Oh Andy!” instead of “James”.
Heist of the century.
