Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
In her role as Haji's First, Lahab leads Haji's Harem. She is a Jann genie, one of the few elementals left in the world. She and Kazom are "old friends".
Just like what Jean did to Neil or Natalie last chapter a mind alteration. Guano wouldn’t want this Idea either it would be a sham marriage for numerous reasons. One reason based on there own preferences.
Like that open question of fix who? Are we fixing Guano, Jeanie or are we going to be fixing both Guano and Jeanie, because, it look like to me that they both need a little bit of fixing up to me.
Hmmmm. That revelation should have taken Jean’s fear of ravishment off the table, but Lahab just had to go and put it right back on. Is this a deeper game to get Jean and Guano to make common cause or is she just being a jerk? Because a common desire to thwart this marriage means Jean and Guano finally have something in common besides mutual distaste. It could force them to work with each other for a change.
It would appear that from Lahab’s point of view, Guano STILL is the best option to take Haji’s place, but she was one of the few genies aware that him being gay, lacking a wife and a heir, would get in the way. Now he has a “wife” (the most powerful genie in the world in fact) and a possible heir coming, so the problem may have solved itself, as long as Jeanie plays along…
Also, I just realized that I type that Guano may be the best possible candidate to lead Genie Kind and that Jeanie is the most powerful genie around… maybe I should start writing an end of the world storyline for the MC.
Referring back to my Catherine the Great reference way back in last week, I can’t help but think that Lahab is hinting that the “fix” to the Guano problem is like the “fix” for the Tsar Peter III problem. The reason Sofia (Russified to “Ekaterina”) became Peter III’s wife was that his mother wanted to choose a wife and get him to breed an heir–a spare in case Peter III either died on his own or became too difficult for his mother to control.
If Lahab gets Jeanie to co-operate in murdering Guano, then Lahab would have a pretty good lever to keep Jeanie on-side, wouldn’t she?
Oh, what exactly happened to the present Haji, BTW? We still haven’t seen the Haji, have we? I wonder if Lahab has already “fixed” him?
Errr… before you run too far with that thought, remember that this is a sitcom universe. What happens is more likely to be like something out of “Gilligan’s Island” than Machiavelli’s “The Prince”.
Oddly enough, this revelation makes old whassisname much less interesting. I preferred it when he was just this weird asshole, now the genie is just more human.
Oh god I had a new awful thought just now:
If Guano finds out Jean is mentally a guy (which is what actually matters with beings that can change form and gender) Guano might start actively hitting on Jean.
I admit, I don’t see that “mentally a guy” has anything to do with it. At the very least, Jeanie’s behavior doesn’t strike me as being male. Besides that, sexual attraction in my experience has to do with physical appearance, anatomy, as much as anything.
While I would argue that the physical form makes up a majority of sexual attraction (at least in general, there are always exceptions) the mind should not be discounted as an very important factor (especially if we are talking long term relationships, and not casual flings)
(there are literally genies who are cats, and are literally without physical forms, so I’d say that the mental gender is prob the most important for a shapeshifting species)
Personally I feel that the statement Jeannie has a male mind is becoming less and less true as time passes. Her behaviour has visibly shifted as the comic has progressed. She’s still largely self centred and has a phobia thanks to Guano’s niece but male I doubt that will apply much longer if it still does.
Wait a second… my question is… why does she keep changing her form? What was the point of becoming blonde right there if she was just gonna go back to looking older. And then there was that part with Kazom where she was a fire demon or something if I remember correctly. So my question is… why all the form changing. Is it foreshadowing to something? If so I don’t see it
The Fire form is her real form, she is an unique kind of genie known as Jann, and her kind fall into the long list of things the other Genie Lords aren’t fond of, so she hides that fact. The old lady get up is mostly to appear… well, older and wiser to the Genie Lords.
As for her current young form, it was to have a casual girls talk with Jeanie.
And I expect that reverting to her older form is an indication that she’s about to go back out in ‘public’ where that form is what everyone else expects to see.
Guano is gay. Did not see that coming. Back when Jeanie tried to cast a love spell on the cheerleader for Melvin she got turned into a ghost. I thought genies can’t interfear with someone’s mind. Can Lahab mess with Jeanie’s emotions to make her like Guano?
Genies can mess with human minds (Remember what Jeanie did that made Natalie all hot and bothered for Rodge?)
They can’t, however, interfere with human FREE WILL (Making Natalie horny doesn’t interfere with her free will, making someone actually “love” someone does) and even then this might not be an inherent rule and instead be a magically enforced doctrine by Haji
But you’re right, probably no rule on imposing their will on other genies (at least, probably no rules about it for Genie Lords) but I imagine there are probably a lot of magical defenses to overcome when doing this to other genies, and Jeanie now possesses all of Blue’s power
This line seems to imply that Genies are not supernaturally prohibited from messing with each other’s minds, though Edicts of Haji may place limits on what is considered acceptable.
Lahab says “We can fix that”, not “We WILL fix that.” In other words, if Jeanie wants the status of being Lahab’s wife, then if she wishes it, her preferences can be adjusted. But I don’t have the impression that Lahab is threatening to force Jeanie to change.
Admittedly, though, this is a rather disturbing offer.
I got the impression that Lahab don’t consider it necessary … but it’s an option if JEANIE does. In other words, “If you are not able to play the role of Guano’s wife due to hating him, we can fix that”.
Hmm…”not beyond our ability to fix” might go beyond adjusting Jeanie’s preferences. Maybe Guano’s preferences could be adjusted, or Jeanie might be changed back into a male to meet Guano’s preferences.
In any event, I stil choose to see Lahab making an offer, not a threat. There’s no urgency, and Jeanie doesn’t even have to give up serving her current beloved Master. [rolls eyes]
Mating with Guano is a non issue for the time being.
It’s definitely a lot of gray area, what those words can mean. Not sure what Lahab would intend to do to “fix” this political marriage into working, but it’s likely to be more in her favour or Haji’s, wherever they stand in all this.
Thanks! This comic made me laugh even more than the previous one. A revelation that knocks Jeanie for a loop every time Lehab answers another of Jeanie’s objections!
Hate is not the worst thing to feel on someone.. it’s indifference. Lehab seems indifferent towards Jean. However a thousand years would do that to most beings.
Considering that Jeanie’s “selling point” according to Lahab is her Male Mind, I would guess that “fixing Jeanie” would mean, making her “gay” for Guano…
Just like what Jean did to Neil or Natalie last chapter a mind alteration. Guano wouldn’t want this Idea either it would be a sham marriage for numerous reasons. One reason based on there own preferences.
But fix who?
She obviously knows that Guano is pretty incompetent and has let his unearned fame go to his head, but Jean’s no saint either.
Sounds like they may be the perfect match then.
Like that open question of fix who? Are we fixing Guano, Jeanie or are we going to be fixing both Guano and Jeanie, because, it look like to me that they both need a little bit of fixing up to me.
Jeanie if I were you, I wouldn’t make any long range travel plans!
Well, I’m non-plussed.
But are you also non-minused? 🙂
But isn’t non-plussed simply minused, and non-minused is simply plussed? 🙂
Pfft, I’m not even well-integrated.
Thank you, I just learn new word. Love doing that
Nonplussed means totally perplexed, puzzled, or confused, often to the point of not knowing what to do or say.

@Carlos – Well, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) starts on 11/1, so now you have something to write about!
What is her goal I have to wonder, Who knooooooooows
What evil lerks in the hearts of … well Labah… Only the SHADOW KNOWS! Muahahahahahaha!

I think the fix is more along the lines of what happened to Neil back on page 481.
Errr… before you run too far with that thought, remember that this is a sitcom universe. What happens is more likely to be like something out of “Gilligan’s Island” than Machiavelli’s “The Prince”.
@Pilgrim: More like Bewitched than The Crucible?

Where’s the brain bleach?

No, wait, Lahab specifically says “Your male mind may actually make him interested in you as a mate.”
While I would argue that the physical form makes up a majority of sexual attraction (at least in general, there are always exceptions) the mind should not be discounted as an very important factor (especially if we are talking long term relationships, and not casual flings)

I would guess that she assumes Jeanie will take a contemporary more seriously than an elder.

I do hope you’re not going to do a play on Exiern.
“Don’t make us force you to love him.”
Thanks! This comic made me laugh even more than the previous one. A revelation that knocks Jeanie for a loop every time Lehab answers another of Jeanie’s objections!
Glad you liked it.
Can they fix anything about Lord Guano’s level of intelligence?
Hate is not the worst thing to feel on someone.. it’s indifference. Lehab seems indifferent towards Jean. However a thousand years would do that to most beings.
Lehab is tellin Jean not to rock the boat or you might be thrown overboard to the sharks
And the sharks are hungry!
Well……thats one hell of a threat……
what she going to fix Jean’s mind make him more female or just his attitude toward not hating his mate
Considering that Jeanie’s “selling point” according to Lahab is her Male Mind, I would guess that “fixing Jeanie” would mean, making her “gay” for Guano…
Dammed if you do, dammed if you don’t. You either make the decision willingly or they will make the decision for you and say it was willing.
hope their not thinking of magic lobotomy Jean into a bimbo or something
But with the male mind wouldn’t she be a himbo? 🙂
guess depends if retain male mind or not which is part of character selling ponit
Trick or Treat?
Off topic but anyone know if the 910cmx forums are dead and gone?
They’ve been down since about June 11th, and even Robin (from The Wotch, who technically oversees the forums) has not had any news about it.
