A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
Neil knows what she looks like as Natalie. I suspect that she knows that she isn’t Natalie but since you can’t see your own face she needs to find out who she is and therefore she needs a mirror. Once Neil finds out she is Araceli she will have an ever bigger shock.
Now one thing I am wondering is did Neil and Araceli actually switch bodies or did Araceli just make Neil look like her and Araceli still looks like herself but is somewhere else? I am inclined to think the latter.
I’m actually leaning toward the former. Araceli clearly granted this wish while distracted, considering that she thought Caley was making a wish at all. If she’d granted the wish with her full attention, she’d likely have just changed her name for Neil’s on the registry, and then location-swapped with him. With perhaps a little memeory-futzing for the adults who wouldn’t remember Neil getting off the bus.
Actually, I would prefer a full body swap myself. Then you would have Araceli having a mirror image of having trouble in Neil body too. That way more crap can go wrong and does go wrong. Kind of like the Freaky Friday, but, TG version of it. Another nice twist to the Araceli/Neil body swap, would be if Rudd also put into the story an OOOPS fact, where the wish didn’t go exactly as planed or as Araceli intended that it should go and it went haywire on her and went off course.
I’m betting on the body swap, SaylorA. In the previous parts, Araceli was standing in the exact same spot just before she granted the wish while distracted, and Neil as Araceli is still in the same spot.
If it were Neil turning into an Araceli copy, wouldn’t there be a poof somewhere, or two Araceli (real and fake) standing side by side.
Wait, I just found something that might throw a wrench into the whole scenario… “You don’t have any magic powers without your genie body.” That was said by Kazom: Page 145, panel 2 https://jeaniebottle.com/?comic=jeanie145-sm. If true, Neil has the power now, not Araceli.
Which bring up one of the way that I said that this could go wrong. Neil won’t remember the end of the trip switch back to his body without talking to Araceli and that there is a switch back after trip en clued in this too. OOOPS
If a genie can body swap to get out of genie-hood, then that would seem like an ‘easy’ way for Jean to get back to normal. Poof someone who wants to be a genie into a clone of original male Jean, then body swap. All back to normal. Thus I suspect there is some major temporary loophole that allows this.
That would be nice, but, I think it causes some kind of cosmic problems in the Genie Realm or something like that, so that can’t be allowed. We already know that when Jeanie was put back into a human body by the Blue Djinn and she mentally came apart, because, she no longer has a human mind in her, but, has a Genie Mind inside her and her problem did not completely disappear until after she got back into her own body with her own Genie mind.
It been over a year now that Jeanie has been transformed from Jean into Jeanie, so Jean is pretty much doesn’t exist anymore. Jeanie has even started to like being a Genie now and is even beginning to get use to being a female even and it doesn’t seem to bother her anymore. She still has faun memories of being guy, but, there starting to fade out a little bit at a time.
Also, Neil isn’t mentally a Genie either, so, no, it only temporary, but, it can cause, all kinds of problem and probably will cause all kind of problems too.
Neil should have at least some experience wearing heels, due to all the time he’s spent as Natalie. At the very least, it seems very likely that Jeanie would have given her heels for that green evening gown ensemble she put Natalie in for the New York party.
My sister said, that walking in high Heels, is like doing a balancing act. It take a lot practice to do it. You also have to develop the muscles strength so that you can hold your heels straight, so your heels don’t wobble as you walk the the street. What little time that Neil spent as Natalie, she wasn’t walking around in high heels most of the time anyway. So, yes, Neil would still be having problem of walking around in High Heels.
@Larry: While balance and control would indeed be an issue, a severe one, Aracelli’s body likely has the muscular development. Interesting question as to how low level the control system is–that might be body centric enough that, like the muscles, it too carries over. Right up to the moment Neil realizes she’s in heels, and tries to control it consciously.
Oops, just noticed the knee wooblies in the third panel. Thanks th3go.
Neil knows he’s suddenly in a woman’s body, but without a mirror he has no way to know he’s in Aracelli’s body. There’s no reason to believe he’s even noticed Caley, she’s facing away from him and he has a bigger issue to deal with.
Likewise, Neil is probably complaining about the heels just because he doesn’t like heels, nothing more and nothing less.
I think it’s supposed to represent Neil being struck completely speechless by this sudden bodyswap. But Carlos also asked that question, and I forwarded it to CD. He hasn’t answered yet.
When Rodge challenged Neil to guess who was in town, he had to mean his niece Caley. Rodge doesn’t know Caley has a genie, even after Araceli rescued him from Lilly the man-eater. And by the way Neil is acting now, Neil hasn’t thought that Araceli would be with Caley today.
Neil has run away from the tour group without Caley–or maybe not. Caley may have followed “Araceli”, or may have noticed “Araceli” is missing and told the Mean Lady In Charge, the one who called Security on poor Uncle Jake. Or the Mean Lady in Charge may have noticed Caley following “Araceli” away from and followed both.
Once the Mean Lady in Charge is involved, at the very least she will at least threaten to call Caley’s parents to report “Araceli’s” irresponsible behavior. If MLiC can’t find either, she’ll call Security. If MLIC calls Security, than guess who’s going to find out? That’s right, Agent Anderson.
Oh, and let’s not forget about Liam. Caley thought he might have gone to get coffee, but maybe he needed to pee, and guess where he might be right now…
Why would the Mean Lady in Charge (MLiC) find anything unusual about a woman going to the bathroom, with or without Caley following? I do like that last thought, though. As for Agent Anderson (affectionately referred to as Anne), I’m in favor of any excuse to bring her back.
The Mean Lady in Charge (MLiC) sees Caley’s officially designated escort take off without her; what does she do? After calling Security on Aaron’s real uncle (something that could and probably would get her into trouble in the real world, I don’t think it’s hard to imagine her getting mad at Araceli for being so irresponsible–especially if she noticed Liam hitting on Araceli and notices that he’s also missing.
@Brandon: In I Dream of Las Vegas, after Natalie finally convinces Rodge that she’s really Neil, in the last panel of #219 Rodge guesses that the genie that did this to Neil was “the blue-haired girl I saw at the office”. In the first panel of #220, Rodge is wondering whether all the hot girls he knows are really guys, so Neil has told him something about Araceli and Jeannie, but we don’t know what or how much.
Rodge didn’t notice Caley picking up Araceli’s bottle at the post office, and later has no memory of Araceli turning him into a statue in #264 the next morning at work in #267. Rodge still didn’t really know who Araceli was after she saved him from Lilly the man-eating plant; look in the third panel of #534.
There isn’t any indication so far that Rodge knows that his niece Caley is Araceli’s master–or “charge” as Araceli herself put it in Panel 2 of #541.
Pronoun trouble! Neil asks “Why is SHE wearing heels?” Clearly indicates he knows he’s in someone else’s body even if he’s uncertain who the previous “occupant” was. When you’re turned into a woman you wonder “Why am I wearing heels?”
Main remaining question is “where are the magic powers?” Do they go along with the mind or are they “attached” to the body? If Araceli has them, she can un-swap as soon as she realizes she goofed. So it’s more probable Neil has the powers — just doesn’t know how to use them. Hilarity ensues.
If genies can do that, Jean should long ago have solved her problems by finding a healthy male (or simply creating one. Blue made a personable dinner companion out of shrubbery.) and switching.
For that matter, why wouldn’t Blue have traded places with Guano? She was, at the time, more powerful than he. Blue would have the male body he desired AND been next in line for Haji’s job.
Those little “thumbnails” explaining the cast of a given strip are becoming complicated!
Point 2: See my comment above. This counters points 3 and 4. If Jeanie had swapped into a zombie body, He/She would have lost all magical power. Blue might have known that, and chose not to because all her power would have remained in Jeanie’s body with Guano controlling it, and Blue would have had the lesser power.
I concur that the Power likely sticks with the body. If only for the reason that the arc ends swiftly if Araceli has it.
Doesn’t explain why Jean wouldn’t have swapped into a male mortal body early on though. Simply restores the “before pulling the cork” status quo — which she used to be desperate to do.
She didn’t know she could do that, or didn’t think of it. Or CD didn’t think of it, or he did think of it and was well aware the comic would finish right there. Let’s be real.
There are several things that you need to consider here.
1. Jeanie is a new Genie and she doesn’t know all the in and out of the business of being Genie yet. She still a newbie in the Genie world and still learning ropes of being a Genie.
2. The Blue Djinn could not just enter into any ones body. He had to get permission to enter into Jeanie body or at least trick into thinking that it something other than him entering into her body. Jeanie had to opened the door to the Blue Djinn and let him come into her body. Once he was inside Jeanie body, then he could dispossessed her of her own body and throw her out. In other word, the Blue Djinn didn’t do a forced entry to get into Jeanie body. For all the bad things that we have said about Guano, he still didn’t open the door to the Blue Djinn so he could take over his body. The Blue Djinn is stronger than Guano and can beat him down and even kill him, but, the Blue Djinn doesn’t have the power to do a forces entry into Guano and take it over.
3. There are certain limitation that was put onto the Genie so most of the things that you mention can’t happen or aren’t suppose to happen. But, there are ways to circumvent those rule on a limited basses that some times some of those things do happen, but, thee are terrible consequences when that happens.
I’m fairly certain that by now Jean’s essence has pretty much morphed fully into Jeanie’s essence and “she” is no longer actively thinking about changing back. Her behavior has turned more girly (page 573, panel 4) and she didn’t immediately reject Alya’s overly emotional outburst like she might have in the past.
None of these swaps have taken place because it took the Quat Euzma to make it happen with Jeanie/Blue, and it took a distracted wish for Neil/Araceli. The Quat Euzma likely can’t be used again, since it, you know, exploded. And I think we’re likely to learn that a genie/human body swap has never happened before, either, because no genie would willingly do that on purpose.
My theory of why Neil took Araceli’s body off so suddenly is simple: She really needs to pee. Notice the motion lines and the way her knees are pressed together in Panel 3. And notice Caley’s eyes in Panel 2: Caley does know something’s off about “Araceli”.
High heels for women are supposed to have come from Catherine de Medici, a Queen of France who was very short and tired of her husband’s mistress towering over her. Still, she somehow managed to have ten children and three of them became kings of France. Oh, she also is blamed for a little something called the St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre which started off a very bloody civil war.
High heels for *men* originated before women wore them, in fact! They started as a way to keep one’s boots in the stirrups while riding a horse. They were later adopted as a fashion item for men, as a way to say “Hey look everyone, I’m rich enough to own a horse with stirrups, so check out these high heels!” And then that fashion expanded to woman, as well.
Also “I’m rich enough that I can ride everywhere and never have to walk more than five hundred feet, thus have no need for boots that can be walked in!”
Something I have been thinking about. If you were to make a TV series-live action-of the IDOJ comic which actors would you cast as the characters. I was thinking the blonde girl on big bang theory-the short one as Jeanie.
I don’t know who I would cast in each of the rolls of Jeanie Bottle, but, there enough there to do four or five solid season of Jeanie Bottle stories before running out of material for any future season after that. I would probably want to do a few pre-sequal episodes of Jeanie Bottle of Neil graduation engineering college in Cincinnati, Ohio and moving to Cocoa Beach, Florida for his new job that a sub-contractor for NASA. We see, Neil saying goodby to his good friend Jean in the first episode. Second episode, Jean moving to Cocoa Beach, to be with his friend Neil, because, Jean is such a jerk, he has only been able to have Neil as his friend. So he invites his friend Neil over to meet his girlfriend Belle, where Neil feel like a fifth wheel on jeep and maybe even feeling a little intimidated by Jean even with him having a girlfriend and Neil not having a girlfriend. The third episode is where Jean and Neil have some real man time together and watch the I dream of Jeannie marathon where we see Jean idealizing Barbra Eden and thinking things that he should not be thinking, but, it left to our imagination as to what he really is thinking. It then close to the end of the third episode that Jean take Neil to second hand store or antic shop and find the Totem or the Genie Bottle and picks it up and turns into Jeanie for the first time.
The reason for at least three episode, is to develop a relationship between these two men before one of them turns into Jeanie. Then throw the rest of the Jeanie bottle series on top of this.
She’s not a TV actor, but I feel like Gal Gadot would make an excellent Araceli. Gorgeous and exotic, but not all that busty (so as not to overshadow Jeanie and Natalie).
Whenever I imagine what a blonde genie would be like, I think of Jean Watts. I know she is not an actress but if she acted well for me she would be ideal.
Neil taught her about heels on their hot dog and a movie date, way back when. And araceli is a petite woman. I can totally see why she’d have gotten used to wearing heels since that time.
And as a genie, she probably doesn’t suffer any of those pesky disadvantages of heels, like aching feet and toes.
Caley was well aware of how Araceli feels about Neil at the end of I Dream of Green Eyes, so she might find the idea of Araceli being really interested in another man disturbing if she believed it. But that doesn’t really fit with how Caley has behaved so far.
Exactly why Araceli when she wasn’t Neil yet asked about Liam is a mystery. I think it’s more logical that Araceli, who really is very concerned about children, was concerned that Liam had left his charge alone. I think Dominic, Caley’s friend, may be the child Liam is supposed to be looking after, and the Mean Lady in Charge would be very unhappy to find out he isn’t doing his job. If and when the MLiC finds out Liam and Araceli are AWOL at the same time, it’s in character for her to suspect the worst.
The Whatever Lady is probably the mother of the kid dragging her off the bus in the last panel of #570. She has the same bored expression then, too. I think Neil is really talking to Araceli when she goes to check on something. Neil does care about Caley and knows that Araceli is Caley’s genie.
My assumption about Araceli’s Liam question from two pages ago, based on Caley’s answer, is that she was glad he was gone because he’s been skeezing on her the whole trip. She wanted to know where he went, because she can’t keep the stink eye on him while he’s out of eye-shot.
I go with Robert on this one. Neil has plenty of experience with Natalie boobs by now, which further supports my theory that the reason Neil set off for a restroom is that she needs to pee.
That brings up an interesting question: Do genies need to pee? If Araceli’s magic went with her mind, any magic keeping her bladder under control is now in Neil’s body, and they’ve just had a long bus ride. The very first thing the guardians should have done with the kids is take them all off to the restrooms, no matter how many of them insisted they really didn’t need to go.
“You don’t have any magic powers without your genie body.” That was stated by Kazom: Page 145, panel 2 https://jeaniebottle.com/?comic=jeanie145-sm. Araceli might be panicking right about now.
@mike, Araceli might be panicking right now if she has lost her magic. Why? Well (and you might know this without looking it up) it was Araceli who much more recently explained why she thought de-powered Jeanie was suffering so much in a merely-human body.
However, Jeanie wasn’t in a human body in #145; she was without a body at all, until Kazom gave Jeanie a temporary body looking like Melvin’s favorite anime character who looks very suspiciously like Brady from Sailorsun.org. While Jeanie was still intent on getting her old body back, she wasn’t completely broken up in #145.
I think Araceli may be wrong. Who would have taught Araceli her genie lore? Why, that genius of genies Uncle Guano, of course!
Anyway, who gets Araceli’s genie magic is still a mystery until CD shows us, maybe as soon as tomorrow. Or not, if we get a “Meanwhile, Jeanie is…” next comic.
Personally, I’d like to see Araceli stuck in Neil’s body for awhile, especially if Jeanie returns and Araceli/Neil turns out to be Jeanie’s master. That is, if Araceli/Neil doesn’t blow up Jupiter Two Engineering first. Let’s face it, cute as she is, Araceli is no rocket scientist.
This may be well off piste, but if the probable body swap involves essence transfer, and if genie ownership is tied to the essence, does that mean Jeanie is now Ariceli’s genie? can a genie have a genie?
It yes to both your question with the body swap and Genie can have other Genie. But, Araceli is technically not a Genie right now, if she in Neil body and Neil is technically not a human, while he in Araceli body either. But, Araceli is technically standing in for Neil and she would be Jeanie Master.
Could Araceli take advantage of Jeanie like that or would she take advantage of Jeanie like that? Only CD Rudd knows for sure.
Either a bathroom mirror to check if he really had Araceli’s body and/or to check out Araceli’s “assets” in private!
Just joking.
If the later, being used to be Natalie, this may be a disappointment for her.
Because Araceli’s melons are small compared to Natalie or Jeannie’s?
Neil knows what she looks like as Natalie. I suspect that she knows that she isn’t Natalie but since you can’t see your own face she needs to find out who she is and therefore she needs a mirror. Once Neil finds out she is Araceli she will have an ever bigger shock.

Neil you have been Natalie several times and now your Araceli how can this body be different for you when its time for the bathroom?
At the very least, I would expect her to be used to wearing heels by now!
Are you referring to Araceli or Neil/Natalie?
Neil should have at least some experience wearing heels, due to all the time he’s spent as Natalie. At the very least, it seems very likely that Jeanie would have given her heels for that green evening gown ensemble she put Natalie in for the New York party.
I think that’s what Carlos is getting at.

@50srefugee actually I dont think she has the muscle developed https://jeaniebottle.com/?comic=jeanie-bottle-131 was the first time she wore heels
She’s genie. I would expect she can poof the muscles in … the actual experience in using them, maybe not.
It’s been a long while since he became Natalie, so that could be one reason.
Another is that even thought Neil’s body was a different gender, it was still HIS own body. It’s different since he become someone else entirely.
Neil is having trouble walking
Betcha he’s gonna trip and land on top of Araceli’s chest. That will hurt a lot.
Natalie, Jean, Agent Anderson Bell or Araceli who would win a swimsuit contes if they all entered on?
You should sign up as to CD’s Patreon and check out the wallpaper from last August. 🙂
Is the speech bubble in the first panel supposed to be blank?
I think it’s supposed to represent Neil being struck completely speechless by this sudden bodyswap. But Carlos also asked that question, and I forwarded it to CD. He hasn’t answered yet.
At first, I was thinking the same thing. Then I tried to imagine what he/she would say.
“Boobs?!”
“Caley?!”
“Heels!?”
I am going to go with Neil being speechless too Robert. Neil is basically have a “Mind Fart”
You think Jean would have done this to some one at one point or to Nate you know?
When Rodge challenged Neil to guess who was in town, he had to mean his niece Caley. Rodge doesn’t know Caley has a genie, even after Araceli rescued him from Lilly the man-eater. And by the way Neil is acting now, Neil hasn’t thought that Araceli would be with Caley today.

I’m pretty sure the motion lines are to indicate that Neil’s having trouble with Araceli’s heels.
Doesn’t rule out “I gotta pee” though.
Why does any woman wear heels? To keep them from thinking how much their earrings pinch…
No… Peyton Sawyer as Jeanie. Would need blue contacts, though. Leana Headey as Araceli.
I had to look them up. Excellent choices. With the grandkids in charge of the remote it is usually Paw Patrol or Bubble Guppies.
What does everyone else think?
Maybe Mary and Brandi from “Storage Wars” for the girls.
I know she is not an actress but if she acted well for me she would be ideal.
what was she thinking heels at the space center with all that walking one does
You are basically walking on your tip toes too. Oh, my aching feet!!!
You know, I think this is such a great plot development, I feel upset this one wasn’t used in the TV show.
So do you think that the”whatever…” woman, and Caley think Araceli is off to make time with Liam? Will Liam think that?
Fluff those pillows when you in there Neil. Because she has magic boobs.
Spending some quality time in the bathroom with your new boobs is more of an El Goonish Shive thing.
Let’s be sensible about this boobs must be played with until the novelty wears off and you realize they get in the way and hurt your back.
Neil has plenty of experience with significantly larger, firmer breasts than Araceli’s (you know… Natalie’s).
Let’s face it, cute as she is, Araceli is no rocket scientist.
happen to think maybe she hope to see over the crowds that gather at the exibits
That hair color doesn’t fool me…. it’s clearly cloud from final fantasy in panel 1 and 2! 🙂
