Like the new look and the haji drains their magic make sense how he is so powerful for thousands of years.
Yeah, but it makes him sound like a magic thief that abuses his subjects’ loyalty. Leaders who abuse his own people like that tend to get booted out eventually.
If this is true, then the difference between what Haji is doing and what Blue is doing is that Blue drains victims all at once until they can not survive, while Haji drains them slowly and they can go on living for long enough that apparently nobody suspects that their lifespans are being shortened by Haji.
Although, if it is true that Haji is taking magical energy from Genies for himself, then that gives him a perverse incentive to use it as a punishment even for offenses that do not necessarily deserve it–e.g. Rouyaa, who was ALREADY a member of his Harem.
“Alwatwat”?
And likely I’m focusing on irrelevancies, but why is her choker red?
Alwatwat was established as Guano’s old name a few pages ago. I got the feeling that becoming a Genie Lord allowed him to take a “Lord Name” of sorts. For which he chose “Guano”, because he’s a twat.
As for why her choker is red, who knows? Blue seems to have a surprisingly good sense of feminine fashion, and red goes well with blue and white.
Though now that I think about it, they did some kind of ritual together in their last page. And Guano’s color scheme is red and white here, while Blue has *added* red and white to her scheme. Maybe that’s significant? I legit don’t know.
You know what, I think that color scheme has to be significant. Guano went from red, green, and purple to red, white, and purple. While Blue’s genie clothes went from just blue, to blue, red, and white. Two of the same colors as Guano now has. That’s gotta be significant, somehow.
I think both 50srefugee and Robert have something here. As to the choker and the colors that both the Blue Djinn and Guano are wearing. This is the first time we see the Blue Djinn wearing a red choker in Jeanie body. Then we have the color ordination between both the Blue Djinn and Guano, so something major probably had to have happened.
They got married didn’t they?
I think that’s basically what the ritual they performed means, hkmaly, but I’m not totally sure.
Something smells… on page 486 Guano informed Asha that Haji was planning on retiring. True, he says that its a rumor, but if accurate that would mean Haji would be surrendering his source of unlimited magic. Not something a powerful Genie Lord would be likely to do. And wouldn’t the genies in his harem be aware of their magic being slowly drained?
Oh, and here’s another random thought. The bottle changed Jean’s core being into that of a female… now that Blue has assumed residence in Jeanie’s bottle, wouldn’t it have done the same to him?
I suppose that that is one possibility of Haji draining off some of the female genie’s magic as the Blue Djinn said, but, we also know that he is also liar too. It was the Blue Djinn lying to Jeanie so that he could gain access to her body so that he could take over her body to do what he wanted to do. So it still not certain that, that the reason that Haji has a Harem passed being sexually active and such. Having a Harem of major sheikdoms or sheiks is kind of standard in the Saudi Arabian area where the Genie tradition came from originally.
Good question. did the Blue Djinn beside assuming Jeanie body, did he also assume her female core as part of his being too?
Don’t Know.
So which of them is really the ignorant one?
Blue does keep intimating that he’s stuck as a “bottle genie”, now. I think you’re right that he’s now female at his core.
Maybe he reached limits of how much magic he can steal without anyone noticing and realized that he needs to end it while he can still do it himself instead of being forced and disgraced and possibly executed.
Valid point, but he does have a LOT of genies in that harem. 29 as of the last count on page 440. Theoretically he can get a new one every year… assuming genie birthdays are the same as mortals. Which raises another question… if he IS drawing power from the girls, and he’s so old, why so few? And that brings me back to my first observation… something smells.
So Guano just had the genie equivalent of a shotgun marriage? Also, I wonder what significance the pearls on Blue’s waist have …
I think the pearls at Blue’s waist are because she thinks they’re sexy. She’s turning into a femme fatale and it is one of the funniest things about this storyline. 🙂
I mean, look at her leaning toward Guano. That is some first-class flirting technique. 🙂
Not one 100% sure, but the pearls seem to be a formal dress code for whatever Blue is planning on the long run. It’s not the same costume, but Jeanie wear some pearls on her “ritual” costume back in Haji’s palace, granted, back then she was kind of a “flower girl”, while Blue is playing the bride’s role here, but still, it seems pearls goes with Genie weddings.
I think the bride was the veiled genie back in 450 and 451.
@k: ” I wonder what significance the pearls on Blue’s waist have …”
Alright, I’ll say it: Remember ZZ Top’s “Pearl Necklace”? It’s not talking about oyster shells. The pearls are symbolic of semen.
@Joyce Melton: “look at [Blue] leaning toward Guano. That is some first-class flirting technique.”
Bang on, as they say.
Now that he’s a female, it looks like Blue intends to start a harem of male genies to get all of their power. I’ve been wondering what Blue’s plan was.
That’s not the same bra top she was wearing before.
Question. Is it meant to be ignorate or ignorant in the third panel?
