Well, it looks like Lord Shona is bleeding face down in the dirt. I say face down because of the green jewel that we see on his forehead is now laying on the ground under his turban.
Genies have been described as having a certain amount of magic that they can channel, so it is likely that any being that is of equal or greater magical strength could kill a genie. The implication from this scene is that the genie that was being contained behind that spirit warding sign was powerful enough to injure, if not kill, a Genie Lord.
Shona called the prisoner “Djinn”, so my guess is that this is the infamous Blue Djinn, who was imprisoned by Guano some decades back. If so, then it is likely that he will come looking for revenge (and possibly take it out on Guano’s niece Araceli, which would get Neil and Jean involved).
That pencil mustache gives Lord Shona a 1940s look, making me wonder if this scene is another flashback. I also wonder very much who the imprisoned djinn is. Perhaps someone who’s supposed to be dead?
Well, since the Blue Djinn (or whomever this is) escaping would be such a huge deal, I am sure it would have come up before now in the story, if it had happened in the past. Such as when he had been mentioned before.
It would be awkward to fit him being loose as general knowledge that was not a priority to bring up till now. Kinda like a discussion like this happening… “This dangerous all powerful genie that is now rampaging is very dangerous, but we did not warn you guys because we did not think it was worth mentioning.”
And the mustache style. Well.. have you seen these genie’s fashion sense? I don’t see them as being too keen on current styles for the most part. Well, except for Rouyaa and her 1960s apartment!
Well, that is twice today I saw spilled blood in a series I didn’t really expect to see it in. First, it was on a Cosmos A Spacetime Odyssey, and now this page of Jeannie Bottle. Hmm.
I don’t usually wish for much, but here is what I wish for…
That Rouyaa comes out of retirement for this, and kicks this guy’s ass. And then gets rewarded by having her happily ever after come true! Maybe even a time jump for her so she can make up for all that lost time.
Yeah, I am still hung up on that! She deserved better!
I made a comment yesterday about people missing the blue nimbus connection with Araceli. Actually, the Blue Meanie has a blue nimbus (or more of a tornado with a face) but it’s a different shade.
It seems the color is related to the costume Shona had a purple costume–and if you look close the smoke is more a blue-Violet color (like purple) rather than blue.
Hehehehe… The Dark Side grows stronger! (in Emperor Palpatine voice)
Not bothered by the blood at all, since I like violence. I was actually disappointed Agent Anderson didn’t blow away that drug smuggler in that last comic she appeared in way back (I still imagine the off-screen next panel of that exchange is her shooting him though. 😛 )
Anyway, back to the current comic… You’d figure people would figure out that when you imprison powerful evil villain sorts, they *always* escape! Gotta destroy them when you’ve got the chance!
The site stores its own cache of each page, and updates it through some arcane schedule I don’t understand. It looks like the Next button is up and running on that page, now.
You can always use the ‘Home’ in the menu. It will take you to the LATEST page.
How the cache works, is it will create and save each page for a certain amount of time (172800 Seconds).
Everyone who views the page within that time period will see the cached version (minus comments which are live). Then after the time elapses, it creates a new page and saves it on the next visit to that page, and repeats the cycle.
So depending on the LAST visit, before the cycle renews, sometimes there’s a lag between the last comic’s next button updating.
This saves CPU usage, which my service provider tracks. Considering the 3 webcomics (SailorSun.org, JeanieBottle, Melvin C.) running on my server, (plus my other sides SailorSun.com, Cheer, and others) sometimes the CPU usage gets too high for my allotment. The caching is meant to minimize that issue.
OK, let do a recap of what we already know about Genie and Witches. Of the Genie group we have the two strongest Genie which are Haji and the Blue Djinn. Which one is stronger, we don’t know sure or by how much the other might be stronger, but, the Blue Djinn was trapped or imprisoned by Lord Guano. We don’t know how he did it, but, Melvin father paid the ultimate price for it and Kazom was turned into a cat form of a Genie. In past when Kazom was talking to Melvin about is, he seemed to think Guano double crossed both Kazom and Melvin father and left them out to dry. Now since Haji is now the most powerful genie around, he make the genie rules that all the other genie follow or they get banished by Haji from either being a genie or locked away forever in there bottles or totems.
We also know that we have at least two major witches goups too or more, that are also in this fight for power. We also know from past comments that all four or more magic groups of witches and genie got into a fight with each other and now there is an uneasy truce between the witches and the Genie that can break down at any time, especially since the Blue Djinn is now free to contest the issue of who in charge here.
That where we are at right now and it anyone guess as to what going to happen now or how it going to turn out.
This may be way out there, but if witches are in the mix in this story now, Jeanie is friends with at least one witch: Samantha.
Guano’s defeat of the Blue Djinn has always struck me as most improbable. Back in the Sixties he was a doofus, pretty much like the junior genie on the animated I Dream of Jeannie (who was voiced by Joe DeRita, the Sixth Stooge.) The 21st century version looks meaner but definitely not smarter. So why does Kazom hate Guano?
Maybe politics. There’s some kind of bad blood between genies and witches, and Kazom seems to have gotten in trouble for working with Melvin’s dad–even though together they kind of look like they were the ones who took down a big-time evil djinn. Was it the Blue Djinn? Was Guano’s great accomplishment a lie, or was he used to make it seem like Big Blue was down while in reality he was preparing his real attack?
Samantha teaming with Jeanie seems doable. But there’s another connection possible. My remark about the blue nimbus Lord Shona’s POOF left was meant to prompt at least one of you to remember that the only other genie with a blue POOF is Araceli. Shona could be her dad. Which could make her a target, and/or give her a reason to help Jeanie fight off the Blue Menace.
And why is this comic part of Verisimilitude? I expected it to be the beginning of Story 11 and I bet I’m not the only one to have that thought. But I’ve had another thought. Yes, yet another thought. The verisimilitude could be between Jeanie and Rouyaa. If you know the Barbara Eden series, you would know that the Blue Djinn had the hots for Jeannie.
Which means that our Jeanie in this series could also have a big problem of the Blue Djinn having the hots for Jeanie too, like Barbara Eden series of I dream of Jeanie. That would be an interesting twist to this story. What Jeanie going to do about Blue Djinn Genie stalking her.
Funny. Everyone is trying to guess who it is. Saying it’s the Blue Djinn. My money is that it’s Eve. It was never stated how she was dealt with, only that she was.
My take: That’s a great way to introduce Eve as an antagonist.
I don’t think Eva is the djinn in this episode. Or maybe I hope she isn’t because that would make her evil. I’d like to have her turn up, even if she is an old lady now like Ray/Rouyaa.
Kazom to Jeanie => (Jeanie Bottle CMX 164) Kazom never explicitly said Eva died from magic over-usage. It was implied to support his point.
Kazom said,
* “Not every Genie lives as long as he has”, which is true, Eva died before reaching the 3000 year mark.
* “There was a bottle genie named Eva that died young”, which is also true.
* “She and her master died in 1945”, according to actual history books (and as far as Kazom knows, is true.
* “She kept using magic on a global scale.”, again true, which lead to the reason Haji had her de-powered.
Kazom to Rouyaa => (Jeanie Bottle CMX 378) Basically in this comic, Kazom tells Rouyaa what she needs to know, not to disobey Haji. He told her the full story of what happened to Eva. Remember, this is after Eva was de-powered, but before April 30, 1945 (when she died).
No bossrhino, your wrong. The Genie that blasted Lord Shona is a more powerful Genie than Shona is. There is not only Genie hierarchy in rank between Haji, The Lord Genie, but, also your line Genie like Jeanie and the others, but, there is also in power hierarchy too when it comes to the amount of power they can also wheel throw at any given time. So the only one that has the power to take down a Lord Genie like that is either Haji or the Blue Djinn. So you can forget about any other Genie doing this. We know it wasn’t Haji that did it so that leave Blue Djinn doing it. Beside, Lord Shona refereed as Djinn and there is also a blue poof in the second frame, so we can conclude that this is the Blue Djinn.
If Kazom can sense another genie being killed, I wonder if he can sense and perhaps summon Jeanie.
I know, I know, why would Kazom want to bring back that airheaded genie? Maybe because Jeanie is the one genie he knows hates Guano, making her the least likely to blow his cover to Lord Batshit. Air-headed help is better than no help.
This brings up an interesting question. Apparently, while genies may be [at least close to] immortal, they are not invulnerable. But can they only be killed magically? Or are they susceptible to more mundane threats? Would, say, a rifle bullet, be sufficient to take one out? How about being beheaded, a la Highlander? Or would it require something on the order of a small nuclear blast?
Well things just got pretty dark all of the sudden….
Well, it’s not all dark. That guy in the last panel clearly finds it hilarious.
At least someone has a proper sense of humor! >:)
I like the animated bit in the banner. Not sure if it is new just the first time I have noticed it.
I noticed it a couple of days ago. I’m not sure when it went up.
the next step is to let Jennies eyes follow the mouse
I like that Jeanie noticed, and is staring at the animation. That’s a nice touch.
I’m expecting to see a couple of hobbits with a ring show up next.
Good catch X)
Oh yes please, this ^
What just happen? Did I miss something?
Well, it looks like Lord Shona is bleeding face down in the dirt. I say face down because of the green jewel that we see on his forehead is now laying on the ground under his turban.
Can genies be killed?
Genies have been described as having a certain amount of magic that they can channel, so it is likely that any being that is of equal or greater magical strength could kill a genie. The implication from this scene is that the genie that was being contained behind that spirit warding sign was powerful enough to injure, if not kill, a Genie Lord.

If they can die, and they can, they can be killed.
Lord Shona hasn’t appeared before but he was mentioned in #378 where Kazom tells Rouyaa that Shona had been dispatched to punish Eevi/Eva. According to C.D. himself in the comments, this scene takes place in March 17, 1943.
That pencil mustache gives Lord Shona a 1940s look, making me wonder if this scene is another flashback. I also wonder very much who the imprisoned djinn is. Perhaps someone who’s supposed to be dead?

Well, look at this: https://jeaniebottle.com/?comic=jeanie-bottle-384 and https://jeaniebottle.com/?comic=jeanie-bottle-385.
I think Jean and Neil’s time-travelling shenanigans will have something to do with the Blue Djinn…. and provide a handy reason as to why the Blue Meanie would come for them.
@Rock
Kudos. You remembered the Blue Meanies from Yellow Submarine. I remember them from when the movie came out!
This scene seems almost out of place in this comic. Has anything so dark ever happened before?
We are breaking new ground with this!
And new genies as well…
Well, Neil got a bump when a book fell on his head. Does that count?
well there was the blood bath on Sailor sun. sort of

Maybe that would be the reason that we saw Neil and Jeannie in that episode way back when!

I wish! I wish! I wish! I wish!!!!
> Yeah, I am still hung up on that! She deserved better!
Seconded!
Since this would be major event, will this spill over into Melvin’s realm?
Though they do seem to be having a bit of a mess on theirs hands at the moment. Not to mention in Ida’s car!
Kazom being a genie lord might draw him into it. Unless being a cat takes him off the genie radar somehow.
Looking at the previous comic, one wonders if this is connected with Belle having an explosive temper?
Oho!
Looks like Cerebus has come calling for Jeaniebottle…. 🙂
Could be another coincidence, but notice that Lord Shona POOFed in with a blue nimbus. Do we know another genie with a blue nimbus?
Well, Aracelli has a blue poof, but that could be coincidental; there’s no telling how many different colors are available to genies.
I made a comment yesterday about people missing the blue nimbus connection with Araceli. Actually, the Blue Meanie has a blue nimbus (or more of a tornado with a face) but it’s a different shade.
Of course, you’re right. Could be a coincidence.

oops a daisy (with a slight Australian accent)

“I don’t know where I’m a-gonna go when the volcano blows!”
I’ll sum this up in 4 words: it’s just got real!!!
‘Next’ button of the last comic hasn’t updated. tried refreshing the cache.
The site stores its own cache of each page, and updates it through some arcane schedule I don’t understand. It looks like the Next button is up and running on that page, now.
It isn’t for me, here in the UK. You need a snappier updater thingy. People won’t necessarily check the main site for the new comic.
You can always use the ‘Home’ in the menu. It will take you to the LATEST page.

My take: That’s a great way to introduce Eve as an antagonist.
Eva, you mean. (AKA, Eva Braun)
I just realized something: Kazom told Jean and Rouyaa two different stories about Eva. Kazom told Jean that Eva died in 1945 with her master, but Kazom told Rouyaa that her sister had been stripped of her powers and made mortal, doomed to age and die. Now Kazom said that to Rouyaa in 1943 so he could have been telling the truth. But Kazom implied that Eva died because she used up all her magic. My guess is that C.D. was thinking that when he was writing I Dream of My Old Bottle. But does C.D. think that now?
I don’t think Eva is the djinn in this episode. Or maybe I hope she isn’t because that would make her evil. I’d like to have her turn up, even if she is an old lady now like Ray/Rouyaa.
BTW, guess what my ex-wife’s name is.
Ok, I’ll address this one…
Kazom to Jeanie => (Jeanie Bottle CMX 164) Kazom never explicitly said Eva died from magic over-usage. It was implied to support his point.

* “Not every Genie lives as long as he has”, which is true, Eva died before reaching the 3000 year mark.

i thought the poof in the second panel was Lord Shona but i too think that it is the blue djinn who is imprisoned
Don’t count out the possibility that this page is a flashback. The only time Lord Shona was mentioned before was in 1943. Guano was supposed to have defeated the Blue Djinn some time before his conversation with Rouyaa in 1969. But Melvin’s dad and Kazom were working to foil the Blue Djinn just a few years ago, when Melvin was nine. Since Melvin is in middle school, he shouldn’t be more than fifteen now.
You never know, Tom – even though he’s in middle school, Melvin might have been held back a few years, making him, oh, say, about 26 now. 😉
Melvin Chronicles just referenced this comic over on his comic
Hmm. Conspiracy theories, anyone?
If Kazom can sense another genie being killed, I wonder if he can sense and perhaps summon Jeanie.

I’ll take Kazom’s feelings at face value and say this is one DEAD genie.
Enquiring minds want to know!
Or an overdose of Bucktooth Willy’s White Lightning?
Has anyone suggested that Araceli could be the Blue Djinn’s daughter and was adopted into Lord Guano’s family as a baby?
