Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
Based on CD’s background info, bottle genies are predisposed to being of service, so obviously that part of her genie-ness is coming out. If given a minute to talk to Neil, I suspect the old self-centered Jean will emerge.
Jeannie may be committed to 2 more wishes from Boss Hogg, but she’s still Neil’s genie I think. So, once Neil gets to talk to her we’ll see what happens. She knows where her bottle is. If Neil reclaims it does that negate the remaining wishes? Who knows . . . well, presumably CD Rudd knows . . .
“bottle genies are predisposed to being of service”
A point I’ve made several times, along with saying that when Neil rescues Jeanie, she needs to show the same attention to him.
I’m hoping that this experience teaches her that being a girl, and doing for others, is not a bad thing; that in fact she’ll be a lot happier if she gives in to this side of the genie nature.
But Neil also needs to be a bit more masterful to encourage that. He still thinks of Jeanie as Jean.
She’s been adjusting slowly, I know if I were in her situation I’d be fighting it tooth and nail not because I dislike the idea of being a girl but because of how little control a jeanie actually has been shown to have and the more you give in to your “genie nature” the more you’ll be locked into a world where your superiors are chauvenistic jerks or manipulative bitches. Kazon isn’t bad but look at how Guano and Araceli have treated her and the Lord of genies has a harem.
I’ve eaten some pretty dodgy BBQ at some pretty nice looking establishments, mostly chains (and some of the best I’ve ever had from a hole-in-the-wall shack that likely had trouble passing health inspections, unless the owner bribed the inspectors with ribs)–but, yeah, in general, you’re right.
Yeah, agree completely! A perfect example is Franklin’s BBQ in Austin, TX. Dat’s some gooooood BBQ (some say the best in Texas) and doesn’t look like much on the outside. (though they don’t have trouble with health inspectors).
In my experience eating south of the Mason-Dixon line, the quality of the BBQ is almost always in direct inverse proportion to the appearance of the restaurant.
Although Lyndon’s, my former favorite hole-in-the-strip-mall house, took a bit of a dive after they moved to new standalone digs, even though they stayed independent. That’s a strong data point for the appearance filter.
Their ribs were so beautifully seasoned and moist they didn’t need sauce–and yet, I liked their sauce, which had a nice vinegar note to it, so much I’d eat half the order with it.
Currently making do with Dicky’s, a small local chain.
Well yeah, proof reading the comic is kindof my job around here. 🙂 I don’t pay much attention to stuff on the site that isn’t in the comics themselves, though, so thanks for pointing that out. I’ll have to dig into the admin interface to figure out where that little block if text is defined to fix it, though.
There is no reason Jean would have to become a waitress at a Hooters style joint except to show off his/her body. Any restrant would do. On the other hand Jean might like showing of his/her body.
I think showing off her body is a big part of it, although she may not recognize that.
A place like Hooters, or the Boar’s Nest, is more than a restaurant. It’s a social experience, a party atmosphere. You eat there, you are Stepping Out.
Somehow, I just can’t imagine her having much fun in Denny’s.
You know this new attitude of Jean’s might just reflect her Master. Boss Hog wants her servile so she is servile. Niel does not want a servile Jeannie so she was not. If that is so Jean might go back to the old Jean once Niel becomes her Master again.
Interesting point, and there may well be something to it.
However:
It’s been stated that a desire to serve is part of the genie nature.
And Neil doesn’t want a genie at all. or at least won’t admit to it. (I’m gonna go ahead and say it: this is why he’s unmarried as well. He’s too nice.)
I don’t think it because he too nice to a girl. But, he may have a natural fear of girls that he freezes when he get around one, especially when he start to think romantically. Jeanie being a former guy friend and now Female Genie, kind of changes everything for Neil.
Oh dear. I don’t think Jean is the same Jean he used to be.
Why do you say that?
Probably based on the way she’s smiling.
Probably the white hat instead of the pink one 🙂
Good to see Jeanie so happy.
And,no, she’s not the rather cynical Jean anymore.

Is Bo’s “Hey!” The same as ” Watch the hands mister!” ?
That’s my thought, yes. She doesn’t know Neil well enough to know he wouldn’t do that sort of thing.
Considering how short a time she’s been a girl I’m surprised she’s even had that thought.
Was the barbecue any good at the Boar’s Nest?
Don’t know from the show–but Hogg strikes me as a man who takes his BBQ very seriously indeed.
Yeah, Hogg would definitely want to be able to brag about selling the best BBQ in Hazzard County.
The place wouldn’t be in business long if the food was bad.

Ran-san: Hah!
For me, the big divider is chain or independent.

Dreamland B-B-Q in Montgomery, Alabama. I’m tempted to go back to Alabama because of their food, and it’s in Alabama .
Now it going to get interesting to see how CD going to work this thing out. Because, there several ways that this could pan out.
For the General’s cast member info it says that it frequently jumps over “ravens”, by chance is that supposed to be “ravines?”
Oh whoops. CD asked me to look over the new cast page, and I forgot! I’ll go fix that up ASAP.
Well if your proof reading the extra S in usually “Normally Updates Weekly
Ussually Tuesday or Thursday” iss sssuperfluoussss. 🙂

I wonder if Bo and Luke will get mistaken for new applicants.
That would work out for them! They’d be close to Boss Hogg, and could look for the bottle.
Wacky hijinks ahead! 🙂
I wonder if Jeanie will continue to work as a waitress in a Hooters-like joint when this is over, just because she’s enjoying herself so much.
I suppose it’s too much to ask that she tries working in the club she keeps sending Neil to, and decides she likes that even better.
@CD: I really like seeing Jeanie so happy.

Does anybody have fun a Denny’s? /snark
I don’t think Cocoa Beach has a Hooters
I bet it’s got other restaurants where the waitresses are as much an attraction as the food.
There’s one in Merritt Island, that’s pretty close.
The White hat is definitely a clue—it’s the color associated with boss hogg—-But then again if she was Neil’s Jeanie, why is it normally Pink (red?) ?
You know this new attitude of Jean’s might just reflect her Master. Boss Hog wants her servile so she is servile. Niel does not want a servile Jeannie so she was not. If that is so Jean might go back to the old Jean once Niel becomes her Master again.

Yes, it kind of screw up his mind a little bit.
Mostly, Neil’s a nerd. He wants to send a probe into outer space, not into…uh, rather than dating.
And yes, Jean being a former male friend doesn’t help.
On the other hand he impressed Belle. That suggests he has had some experience with women.
