Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
Neil if worse happens Jean will poof you both out when someone comes knocking besides Jean is due to have a plan to work out since the moonshine. Back to teen Jean.
Have they? Seems like everything they’ve “changed” by being back in time is something that they remember having already happened in their subjective pasts.
A loop in time. So the question is, how many lives were/will be ruined so Jeanie can have her fun?
And will Neil ever feel guilt knowing all of this is also his fault, for his own inability to act as an actual genie master?
this is where time travel can get so messy. I like the concept of world lines, that the anime Stien’s Gate used to talk what happens when you change events in history. it’s that for every option for every choice there is a different world line where that option was picked so changing past events will push you on to a different world line where that choice was the one that was picked instead of what was originally picked before you made the change.
the thing is unless you retain knowledge of the original world line you where on, then any changes you make to the past wouldn’t screw up your timeline because as far as you know, that “changed state” is how it was supposed to happen. And as Robert and the past few episodes pointed out. they do not remember or have any sense about their old world lines. the question now is will Neil realize this or will he/she continue to worry about it.
That why I refer to this as the Kelvin Time line. They destroyed the planet Vulcan in the Kelvin Time line, which wasn’t destroyed in the original time line. Now we have basically two Star Trek now, one based on the the original time line where the planet Vulcan still exist and one based on the Kelvin time line where the planet Vulcan was destroyed. We don’t know what the original time line is suppose to look like before Jeanie did her time travel number. We also don’t know how much Jeanie and Neil will change the time line this time around either or has the time line become stable and won’t change as some of the people have suggested here.
The difficulty with using Trek’s Kelvin reboot as an example of time travel is that there is no time travel involved in the rebooted Trek universe. Let’s follow our characters through their current journey. Neil and Jean went to the school prom and had some adventures (whatever they might be is yet to be revealed). Neil and Jean graduate and live their lives until going back in time; call it Point A to Point B. Somewhere along the way Jean finds the bottle and becomes Jeanie. Now, until this point in time both characters have only the memories of the lives they have lived from their own point of view. Jeanie has only Jean’s memories of the events surrounding prom. Now our heroes pop back in time for burgers and take a side trip to prom back at Point A. At this point, Jeanie will learn that there is a flip side to Jean’s memories, even as she interacts with Jean and Rita and whomever she encounters. From Jeanie’s point of view (and Neil’s, of course) this is all new and exciting, but from Jean’s point of view this is exactly as it was supposed to have happened. When they pop back to their present, Point B, they will have the combined memories of the events that took place at prom. Nothing has changed because everything that happened is what actually happened.
@50srefugee: As I was saying below… alcohol has a habit of loosening inhibitions and tongues (and no, I don't mean in that manner), and both of these girls are physically undersized and out of practice for serious drinking. If Jeanie is going to admit feeling towards Neil its going to come out in the next few pages… followed by embarrassed denial and deflection. That might be the key to Neil gaining mastery of his genie.
“We’re not going to mess up time.” When I first read this I thought CD left a word out, “mess up ‘this’ time”, and I thought Jean was finally starting to acknowledge she has screwed up in the past and then I remembered they have traveled back in time. So, she is still just as clueless as ever.
I wonder if the number 3415 has some relevance.
And raiding the mini-bar may have some complications. Natalie is in a teen-sized body with less body mass than Neil’s male adult… alcohol is going to hit harder and faster and is known for loosening inhibitions. Jeanie may be in the same predicament. If we’re ever going to see Jeanie express feelings for her “master” it will probably happen during the upcoming pages.
Well, there either on the 3rd floor or the 34 floor, because the first number or first two numbers generally indicate which floor the room on. Assuming that there on the 34 floor there probably only 16 of those kinds of rooms there and they have room 15. These would be the big Presidential suit room, they have char, coaches, office desk, spa, acussy tubs, fully stock bar with wine, salon services, along with a few other extra things thrown in too. The regular hotel rooms that rest of us go to are down below which has just the bed and bath room with char and internet hookup and that about it and room service.
The numbers over the elevator indicate that it’s the 34th floor. I was just curious as to whether the number had any significance back to the television show.
They can’t mess up time, because they seem to be in a pre-destination paradox loop. but I don’t think Jean is thinking that through like that. Impulse control.
had to remember their in the past for a second there. I think these days with all the streaming services I don’t believe Pay Pre View is a thing any more.
Ya know, I’m just going to go along with Jeanie on the timey-wimey…stuff. It’ll work however CD wants it to work, and that’s not predictable.
No surprise, I’m far more interested in how the power dynamic between Neil and Jeanie will play out. I will say this: I never again want to be scolded for suggesting that perhaps Neil could play his role as Master just a teensy bit more strongly, provide some leadership.
Now having ALL the power between them, sexual, magical, and sheer force of personality, Jeanie’s showing how she’d behave as Master/Mistress. Neil’s been, ah, shall we say, circumspect, to an extreme, refusing to infringe in the slightest with Jeanie’s agency, except in an emergency. Jeanie has no such compunctions. if Neil ever again regains Mastership, Jeanie has no cause for complaint, however Neil treats her, short of outright rape/abuse (very unlikely in a CD Rudd production, whew.)
Natalie’s plight now is, I believe, the direct result of Neil NOT exercising even moderate control, and gaining Jeanie’s respect and affection.
I don’t see Neil acting like the Master anytime soon except in the case of him being backed into a red hot iron and then maybe he might respond to being the Master, but, only for getting off the red hot iron.
@Robert: That’s right. Whatever power Neil might have had would have been based solely on his asserting it, and Jeanie accepting it because of her respect and fondness fro him. He has completely ignored his duties towards her, and now Neil is almost powerless.
@50srefugee: Very true. Jeanie is acting much like a spoiled child and does what she wants when she wants and drags her friend along because she can. Without intervention by Haji or Lahab (I don’t think Guano cuts the mustard here, Jeanie hates him too much and she actually has more magical power) she will continue on what may be a self destructive course because we know that Haji has the ability to remove a genie’s power.
@ mike: We know that Haji has the power to remove genie power from the lower level genie if and when he need to do it, but, against the Blue Djinn it was a face off against the two most powerful Genie’s. Don’t forget that the Blue Djinn had control over Jeanie body and he took the power from maybe two or three genie while he was in Jeanie body. That being the case, Jeanie might be the most powerful of all the Genie right now and if that the case, Haji may not have the power to strip Jeanie of her power or to degeniefy her either.
The question is, which genie is more powerful?
Jeanie could be the most powerful genie the Genie realm and if that the case, woe is us.
If it were possible, don’t you think they would have depowered The Blue Djinn when they had him in prison? Come to think of it, they would have depowered Jeanie when they had her in chains back at the palace when they though she might be dangerous. This creates a contradiction… Haji took Eva’s powers (also called Eevi by Rouyaa, page 378) and cursed her with mortality, and then again with Rouyaa (page 392). Why not Jeanie?
@ Dagor, nothing was said about the power that Jeanie has or still has or about the power that the Blue Djinn stole from other genie’s. So I a assuming that Jeanie still has that power. Like mike said, there appears to be a contradiction here as to what Haji can and can’t do. We need more information to know what is and isn’t so here.
No, there just visiting the past, there going to be going back to the future after the school prom is over. The primary goal of going into the past was to get that burger and going to the school prom was just an after thought, so there should not be any reason to stay any longer than that.
Actually, there are a few possibilities where Jeanie is “summoned” back to her present time line leaving Natalie behind to fend for herself. One of Neil’s roommates finds and rubs the bottle in his room or Guano summons his wife are two that I can think of.
In panel 4 it looks like they walked past room 3415. Maybe that is Mr. Garca’s room. Two teenage girls and a mini bar. What could possibly go wrong. That would be a good title for Jeanie’s theme music.
Depending on how you look at it she could be right that they can’t mess up the time. as what ever mess they did cause back then is already part of their timeline. as we can tell from how Jeanie basically dated themselves. and Jeane remembers that event but only from back when he was Jean, so now she remember the other side too, she just hasn’t connected the dots yet. everything they are about to do now, already happened by the time we started this comic. they may be setting off the butterfly effect something fierce but unless they are able to remember the “unaffected” timeline, it doesn’t really matter, as the new changes would seem like the way it always was to them.. and so far it seems they don’t so they can’t mess it up more then they already did. as any “new” mess ups they could get into have already happened according to them. they are just finding out how they happened.
I suppose that technically, Neil hasn’t taken any of his three wishes either, because, they were make five or six years in the future too and so they haven’t been made yet either, if you want to go with Linear Logic too.
Pixie Ranger Chrissie needs to be a permanent character. That girl is really cute and knows how to blow up a space ship. Maybe Pixie Ranger 2 -yes- or crossover to IDOJ and the hot secretary in the short skirt.
The fan art gallery and NOT SAFE FOR WORK versions aren’t working.

It shows this.

Yeah, we know. We’re not really sure how to fix it, though, and don’t have a lot of time to experiment right now. The issue is that the plugin that implements the fanart gallery is broken, for unknown reasons.
Neil if worse happens Jean will poof you both out when someone comes knocking besides Jean is due to have a plan to work out since the moonshine. Back to teen Jean.
I mean, they already have messed up time, so that’s a lie.
I mean, it was just proved that Neil doesn’t have any actual power to force Jeanie to do his bidding. So… no, it’s not in any way Neil’s fault.
this is where time travel can get so messy. Translation from Jeanish: “Binge watch pay-per-view”==”Binge watch porn”. While drunk.
And that neck-lock in the final panel? Definite dom move.
Yes, it will probably porn with guy bodies instead of porn with girl bodies. After all, Jeanie is a girl now.
Nah. She’s going to watch porn with girls and be confused it doesn’t “work” on her anymore.
It’ll be good old vanilla M-F porn, at least to start. Doesn’t want to freak out Natalie.
If that seems to be working, she’ll swtich to F-F.
@50srefugee: As I was saying below… alcohol has a habit of loosening inhibitions and tongues (and no, I don't mean in that manner), and both of these girls are physically undersized and out of practice for serious drinking. Talk about Jeanie getting to be very comfortable in her skin as girl. Well!!
‘Staying’ is missing the y in the first panel.
Oi! That’ll teach me to make what I think is the right fix, only to completely mess up a different one.
“There wasn’t a reservation… and (that non-reservation) was on a large company’s account”?!
Jean may have used Garcia’s account to book a different room. We’ll see.
Yeah, that could use a fix for clarity. I’ll see what I can do.
Though I think Jeanie may just be entirely bullshitting, which would explain why it doesn’t really make sense.
I wonder if the number 3415 has some relevance.

They had pay-per-view back then?
They only traveled back about six years. Pay-per-view in hotels has been a thing since before the year two thousand.
Jokes on her. All the movies will be years old.

I agree–but that means Jeanie will keep ramping up her dominance, until she breaks with him completely.
It was just established on the last page that Jeanie doesn’t actually have to do what Neil says. Neil doesn’t *have* any “power of Mastership”.
@Robert: That’s right. Whatever power Neil might have had would have been based solely on his asserting it, and Jeanie accepting it because of her respect and fondness fro him. He has completely ignored his duties towards her, and now Neil is almost powerless.

@Larry
Wait, are you telling me Jeane still has all the magic Blue stole, that Haji and the other Genies didn’t try to depower her to “normal levels”?
If it were possible, don’t you think they would have depowered The Blue Djinn when they had him in prison? Come to think of it, they would have depowered Jeanie when they had her in chains back at the palace when they though she might be dangerous. Of course, it’s possible Haji did not remove or block Jeanie’s power for a reason… whatever that may be.
Panel 2:. It’s spelled “reservation,” not “reserveration.”
And that’s the *second* typo that I fixed in the first version, but forgot to re-fix in the second version. UGH.
And it’s still not fixed…
Huh, weird. I made the updated JPG on my computer, but it somehow never got posted. Thanks for the heads up. It’s now live.
If the bottle is five years in the future, could Neil spend the next five years as Natalie?!?!
No, there just visiting the past, there going to be going back to the future after the school prom is over. The primary goal of going into the past was to get that burger and going to the school prom was just an after thought, so there should not be any reason to stay any longer than that.

Lovely, lovely point.
A case of Ref’s Myd Century Goose&Gander Sauce to you!
Don’t do anything that will alter the flow of time! Unless doing so is supposed to happen, then for the love of god, don’t NOT do it!
