Chapter: Story 12: I Dream of a Promotion
Characters: Blue Djinn, Lord Guano
Well, some commenters last week were partially right…
Lord Guano you beat the Blue Djiin before make it 2 for 2!
Assuming if he can or if he ever really did. Given all the deceit that tend to happen surrounding the Blue Djinn, BD seems to be better at outwitting many people both genie and human. Guano doesn’t come off as very knowledgeable nor wily in comparison, just hot-headed and dense. I can’t help but think that he just had some dumb luck or happy accident with being credited for BD’s defeat; that’s why it’s been kept a mystery (to us readers) how Guano became a “hero” for defeating the Blue Djinn.
I don’t think Guano did… I think it was Kazom. Back on JB #464 Kazom was denied access to the Genie Council meeting and on the following page mentioned something called the Gorholtz Grimoire and that it might “actually save those idiots.” Why he allowed Guano to take credit for Blue’s defeat is up for debate. Maybe he blew most of his genie power in the battle and allowed Guano to take credit so that he could retire and still leave a “powerful” Lord behind to help keep Blue’s minions in line.
Except that in I Dream of Technicolor Kazom had already defeated (supposedly) the Blue Djinn when Kazom took Rouyaa away from her last master.
Nothing in that segment suggests that Guano actually defeated the Blue Djinn. Panel two of page 385 leaves the question completely up in the air. Guano says: “Well… it was sort of…” then Rouyaa cuts him off.
Oh, I see what you were getting at. Kazom was still in his genie form when Rouyaa lost her powers which was after Blue was defeated. Please note, though, that he didn’t take her powers, Haji did. Also, for some reason he didn’t poof into the room, he seems to have walked in. Conserving energy. perhaps?
@Mike Nobody, not even Kazom, knows how Guano defeated the Blue Djinn to begin with (MC #113, first run), though Kazom still accepts it as the official story. What we know is that the Blue Djinn did defeat Kazom at some point (JB 514), and that Blue does has a personal vendetta against Guano (JB 483).
I think Kazom does know. In GB 384 Guano says “Lord Kazom doesn’t think it’s a big deal.” which indicates to me that he is aware of how BJ was trapped. That’s just me, of course. We’ll have to wait and see how this rolls.
@mike I don’t have all the details at hand, but with Kazom admitting that nobody knows how Guano defeated Blue, I can assume that it was mostly Kazom’s wounded ego speaking there, like “How did this kid, of all people, defeat Blue, when I couldn’t?!”
CONTENANT? CONTINENT?
lol, of course the word that I already “fixed” once before posting turned out to be fixed wrong.
It’s fixed right, now.
In the end, it was not the Blue Djinn who got Lord Guano. It was Karma.
Sexy Karma!
Have to say, he did likely had it coming being such an over-the-top tightwad. Though Rouyaa should be credited for telling him such lousy leadership advice those decades ago.
Pitt? Dammed? Spelling?
Hmmm, “Pitt” is correct, since it’s a proper name. I’m not sure about “dammed”. I’ll fix it is it’s not right.
Depends on how it is meant. If the natural course of the flow of a fluid is blocked, then it is “dammed”. If the souls have been sentenced, they have been “damned” or “condemned”.
OTOH, I’m not following the logic of spelling the word for a hole as P-I-T-T just because there is a family name spelled that way.
Well, as long as you mean something like “(Brad) Pitt of the damned” ‘Pitt’ would be okay. Meaning he, Brad Pitt, is among a group of people that has been judged and damned.
If you mean ‘Pit of the damned’ another term for Hell then you should remove the extra ‘t’ from Pitt to make it ‘Pit of the damned’.
Pit https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pit
Unless, of course, the Pitt of the Damned is actually Pittsburgh which was named for a guy named Pitt.
“The Pitt of the Damned” is the proper name for this place. You don’t have to spell the words in a name “correctly”, because it’s a name. Names can be spelled however you want.
If the whole thing is a proper name, and for whatever reason the Djinn choose to spell it in a non-standard way (a difference of opinion on transliteration, for instance, or to make a deliberate pun), then the only question is, are you spelling it consistently? In your most recent post, you spelled it “The Pitt of the Damned”. In the comic, you spelled it “The Pitt of the Dammed”. Either way can be “correct”, but you may wish to be more consistent.
So, as it’s spelled in the Comic, right now, it looks like there is a breach in the Dam…
ARG!! I fixed that misspelling of “Damned” days ago, but somehow it didn’t get uploaded to the site. It’s there now.
Is this the genie equivalent of a shotgun wedding?
Yelp, this is a Shotgun Wedding Genie Style!
And the Blue Djinn in Jeanie’s body is caring the Shotgun too or should I say the Hubun Jadid. But, it might as well be a shotgun from the looks of what going on in Guano face and past episode of Jeanie Bottle.
wow! she’s powerful. Not looking good
“Marriage or Death! Boy, talk about strict!”
– Ludwig Von Drake, adaptation from A MidSummer Dream.
This was my immediate thought when I’ve read the last panel.
Anyone care to translate panel 2?
I don’t think that there is a direct translation to what the Blue Djinn in Jeanie’s body of this Genie chanting. But, the drift of this chant it that Blue Djinn is being betrothed to Guano and Guano is being betrothed to the Blue Djinn for the purpose of having a son that the Blue Djinn wants. Much more than that, we probably wont be getting much of a literal translation to what the Blue Djinn is Canting. The only thing that we know for sure, is that the Blue Djinn in the drivers seat and he or she is calling Guano to yield to her desire or die.
I said that Guano should run! Run! It a trap! I guess he didn’t hear me?
Can somebody get the Arabic text fixed? Now it’s just bunch of separate letters that should be mostly joined together into words (in simple words speaking).
How would you suggest doing that? My guess would be that CD ran an English phrase through Google Translate and then pasted it into Photoshop. Neither of us know the first thing about writing in Arabic.
Perhaps CD can send you the original phrase before Google Translate.
jpst.it/1VTv6
I don’t know why it doesn’t want to work. it’s 4th time I’m trying to post that text here…
Is Guano about to win the “Darwin Award”? She does look good in panel two though.
I’m not sure if leaving descendants disqualifies you for a Darwin Award. And refusing to procreate for the long-term good of your species shows enough wisdom that it should disqualify him. If he actually understood what was going on, that is. 🙁
Wait–didn’t Blue just make the genie pledge to Guano?
Of course, Guano’s not quite bright enough to realize that, or to attempt to claim it.
(And besides, Blue has the Hubun Jadid. That probably controls which way the pledge goes.)
The problem for Guano is that the situation is NOT symmetrical, as Blue claims. Blue NEEDS Guano for something, is my guess. So if Guano dies, he’s denying Blue the resource (of whatever nature) Guano represents. Guano needs to assume that’s the case, and let himself die. Easy to say, tough to do–I’m not sure I could manage it, unless I knew what being Blue’s little bitch would entail.
If Guano is able to gather that, he could try going kamikaze on BD here. But I think BD might have an upper hand trump card in case Guano doesn’t cooperate as desired with another certain blue genie, starts with an “A”, hint, hint…
Can we get a translation of the Pledge, please?
I believe it roughly translates to
“O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all of us command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.”
but it loses something when not in its native French.
Nice try, but I know better as being a born Canadian.
Hm, and I thought that started “Our country reeks of trees…”
Oof, that was painful to read. Basically, instead of writing out right-to-left, the letters in this script were written out left-to-right, which caused the letters to also remain separated. (The same thing was done with the UN backdrop in Captain America: Civil War.)
The translation is something to the effect of “(I’ve made my decision.) I have decided that I want you to be with me for all time.” The first line is constructed a bit weirdly though, the word at the beginning and end of the line (“asma'”) means “listen”; so I’m interpreting that as a parenthetical, as if she’s muttering.
It seems that even now, Guano doesn’t understand that this is NOT Jeanie he’s dealing with.
This is not the way to make friends.
Yeah, everyone knows that to make friends you need to use necromancy. 🙂
Honestly, even though I’ve never particularly liked Guano in the past, this is an instance where I wouldn’t mind him coming out ahead because I dislike the BD more. Largely because Blue is a boring villain that hasn’t suffered any real set backs thus far.
The closest their plans have come to being messed with is failing to kill Neil and Rodge.
To be perfectly fair here, we are in the part of any story where that’s to be expected. Blue’s plan is just getting into motion, if anything major were to go wrong for him, then either we wouldn’t have a story, or he would just be an incompetent villain. Failing to kill Neil and letting Jeanie go would be the seed to his eventual defeat, but for now, we are in the part of the story where thing need to go dark before they get any better.
With that said, is not like everything has gone smoothly for Blue either, having to be reborn as Jeanie seem to have never been is ideal way to start his conquest, and acting the girly part, at least for a little while, was a huge hit to his pride… even if he seems to have quite the girly taste in clothes now. The real sets backs will come eventually, but as I said, any set backs for his plans now, would mean to cut short this storyline.
I… don’t quite understand what’s happening…
Lord Guano has come to warn Jeanie that the place where Blue should be held as a prisoner isn’t holding him anymore.
Blue, in Jeannie’s Djinneyah body, is holding an artifact that will allow a pledged Djinni couple to conceive a Djinni child. She makes the pledge and shows Lord Guano the artifact. Lord Guano is upset that Jeannie has something she should not have. Blue then demonstrates that she can torture him easily. Finally, she claims that she can kill him if he doesn’t make the pledge.
Ordinarily, I’d be more concerned about matching the pronouns I use to the gender-identification of the antecedent (in this case, Blue in Jeannie’s body might still prefer that he be referred to as “he”) but in this case it’s her own fault he’s a she, and I prefer to be clear rather than PC, given a good excuse. ^_^
Blue’s plan, as I understand it, is to make a new, male djinn, then ditch Jeannie’s body and take the baby’s.
Two things, in one hand, the more obvious, the Blue Djinn is quite literally proposing to Guano, that’s the pledge he is referring to, which involves the Hubun Hajid on his hands. As for why, as some have speculate, it may involve the fact that Guano seems to be the favorite the become the new Haji, as well as Blue’s words of becoming “Queen of all genies” and his previous statement that this time he would try a different way to take over Genie kind, instead of force like last time.
As for what it’s happening to Guano, well, it seems that besides the Pledge, Blue is doing sometime in the sidelines to force him to cooperate, under threat of dead, I do have an idea of what could be, but it’s just a theory, and I would need more info, and the point being, is still not evident what Blue is doing to Guano, just that it’s quite painful.
Isn’t it nice how in actual law contracts made under physical duress are automatically null and void? Magic should get on with the times.
As evil as this is, I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s enjoying seeing batpoop finally getting some comeuppance.
#GuanoKarma
Will be nice to see female Guano finally
So Blue wants a child, wow and interesting scenario.
This is off topic but after seeing CD;s deviant art page I have to ask. Will Honey ever get a Pixie Ranger spinoff story line. That girl does look good in spandex. But then so does Ethen.
