A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
Why is this island deserted? Sounds like it should be fairly popular. Several beaches; springs, plural; palm trees–and not terribly far from the mainland. I mean, gosh, if I were a smuggler, or needed to bury treasure or something….
There are lots of islands off the Florida coast, and most of them are uninhabited, for the simple reason that they are so low-lying that they are completely un-buildable. They’re fine on a calm, sunny day, but the first storm comes along, and they’re suddenly underwater.
The outline is missing, but Rodge’s arm is in front of Natalie’s based on the way the skin tone crosses in front of her pant leg.. He’s probably sitting with his hand tucked under his leg. Her hand’s location is as mysterious as what both she and Rodge are looking at in the first panel.
Araceli’s outfit shouts that she’s this Minnow’s Mary Ann. Not sure why she has the headache– Bermuda Triangle, maybe? It certainly helps set up the anticipated Gilligan’s Island homage if it indicates her magical power isn’t going to function properly if/when something happens to the boat. Perhaps it might even interfere with her returning to her bottle (assuming that Jeanie’s issues aren’t just her not bothering to learn how to remain outside her bottle while sleeping), which would keep Liam from discovering that she’s a genie.
Also, I’m a bit surprised that this strip seems to be setting them up for being stuck on the island. I was expecting to see a scene of Natalie addressing why Rodge introduced her as his fiance but has been acting like a jerk ever since. Of course, I expected that scene to be after they retired for the night, so maybe I just needed to wait a bit.
That’s true, and even though they never said where that island was located, the fact that it was just after launch would indicate that it was close to Florida.
Not being in close proximity to her bottle and having a safe place to rest. I seem to remember the stopper was in the top of the bottle back at Neil’s house.
the headache–there is a disterbence in the force. Is the constelation in panel 1 the big dipper or the southern cross? please forgive the spelling. A flash storm shoves “The Lunky Minnow” onto the beach and wipes out the radio. Araceli’s headache prevents her from using magic. Bucktooth Willie and Jahane will come to the rescue. Her bottle popped up in the swamp in front of his shack.
No, but probably the gals will take two bunks, the two kids will have sleeping bags in the cabin, and the guys will make do with blankets on the deck seat cushions.
The weather started getting rough
The tiny ship was toss’d
If not for the courage of her fearless crew
The Minnow would be lost
The Minnow would be lost
Maybe she might be having a problem with fact her master is under magic and is now Natalie making the swap difficult? Love the green and purple combo.
hmm, maybe the island’s connected to her past somehow. how exactly, I dunno.
Is this the same deserted island from the alternate timeline where Natalie was the genie slave of Jean?
I sure hope not! Seems more likely to be Gilligan-like than Evil-Jean-like.
Let’s hope that it isn’t the island Agent Anderson and her team landed on.
Is anyone else getting a “Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale…” vibe from this storyline?
It was a 3-hour tour… A 3-hour tour…

Why is Natalie’s hand under Rodge’s butt?
Keeping up appearances?
Her lipstick rolled down between the seat cushions.
Better yet, why is Rodge’s hand under Natalie’s, and she isn’t whacking him.

“Her hand’s location is as mysterious as what both she and Rodge are looking at in the first panel.”
The pirate standing behind Liam?
Yeah we are finally back on the yacht
She’s on a ship with several headache carriers…
And children.
>> “Huh, I wonder why Araceli got a headache… Why would a genie even get one of those?”
Proximity to Rodge can do that.
You have to know a certain TV show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F41Y37XTZck
Tony Nelson found Jeannie’s bottle on a deserted island. Might be setting up for a major upheaval.

The Southern Cross isn’t visible from Florida. They would have to be down by Cuba or Puerto Rico, not an impossibility for Liam’s boat.
Unless they spent the majority of the day underway, they are probably still within about a hundred miles of the port from which they started.
It actually looks a lot like Cancer the Crab, though I suspect CD was not trying to make it look like any constellation in particular.
Did Araceli become human as a condition to be with Neil? That would explain why she wasn’t at the ceremony. That also explains the headache.
Yess, we’re back to interesting part!
Given they ae talking about exploring in the morning I’m surprised no one has asked about the sleeping arrangements.
Yes, I do not think that the boat has six separate bunks.
No, but probably the gals will take two bunks, the two kids will have sleeping bags in the cabin, and the guys will make do with blankets on the deck seat cushions.
Low pressure systems can cause headaches. Wonder if a category four hurricane is over the horizon.
