Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jeanโs work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottleโs new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
In her role as Haji's First, Lahab leads Haji's Harem. She is a Jann genie, one of the few elementals left in the world. She and Kazom are "old friends".
Unless they’re dis-possessing their bodies, Genies here seem to only teleport around. Jean was only floating around like a ghost that one time when she got kicked out of her body over a wish.
My guess is that Jeanie is simply thinking of this as being a mundane issue, since it’s just a normal dress. Mundane issues may warrant mundane responses in her mind, so she’s not thinking about using her magic to overcome this issue.
Or maybe she’s afraid that ripping a slit down the side of that dress will anger the other genies.
Jeanie has already asked for a flame thrower, so she has no worries about destroying the dress.
I just don’t think it’s a mundane dress. I think it’s magical. It kept her from getting up by herself and won’t let her walk at a normal rate. It’s designed to prevent her escape. What else can it do? Can it affect Jeanie’s mind — slowly, so she doesn’t notice — until she WANTS to stay and be a princess? It seems to be making her not think of using her own magic to stand, to move, or to alter the dress.
Why go to extreme measures when Jeanie could simply poof herself a more comfortable fit? Everyone seems to be forgetting that genies cannot use magic purely for their own benefit. It’s not a hard prohibition but surely Jeanie has learned that every time she uses magic for a purely selfish reason it will backfire. Jeanie still gets away with many things because she’s self-centered enough to presume most of her actions are generally beneficial but this is a case where even Jean would have trouble figuring who else would benefit.
Also, isn’t it canon that genies can’t mess with each other’s magic? They can replace their spells but they cannot alter them. If that’s true the only genie who can alter that dress is the one who created it.
Finally, everyone wondering why Jean hasn’t figured out a solution yet should realize that things are happening much faster for Jean than the average reader. We have whole days and sometimes even a week to figure out problems that are coming at Jean fast enough to make her head spin.
A proper genie knows how to seem to glide around using tiny steps. There’s a traditional style of Russian dance that uses a similar trick, it’s unearthly.

Yay fir cd’s Christmas week of strips! And now we have two intertwined storylines started for the coming year. Things look like they will be interesting for Jeanne and Natalie. ๐
It looks like we’re finally learning what sort of deal Jean made to get released last time. She probably agreed to the marriage with Guano figuring she’d have decades, possible even centuries to wriggle out of it.
So no for her awnser.
But did Jean have any right to refuse at this point.
Right? When has Jean ever checked if something was allowed before doing it?
Can’t she just try floating with magic? Lahab managed to pick her off the ground that way, so it should work for Jeanie too.

She’s barely thinking about using her magic for magic-related issues.

Can’t wait to find out.

They move that way because they’re actually Daleks in disguise. ๐
It limits their appeal when every performance ends with “Ex-Ter-Min-Ate!”
Don’t make me call a Doctor.
As long as you don’t call The Doctor….
Indeed, that is a cool, well, dance.

Also, great NYE header. ๐
Second! Thanks CD for a week of genie pre-nup.
Reckon Jeanie will need Natalie as a Bridesmaid at some point x
Oooh, that sounds fun. Maybe Nat will catch the bouquet. Or bottle, whatever gets tossed in genie weddings.
Slit the dress up the side, like the New Year’s outfit at the top of the page, and that should solve *that* problem, at least.
Either that or learn to float, yeah.
I hope they toss Jeanie’s old bottle and Natalie catches it becomes its newest genie! That would be awesome!!!
Ditch the dress but keep the bling. Ask Rarity to poof you into one of her fashions. Something that will just like float.
Man I’m looking forward to Genie society getting what it deserves when Jean decides she’s had enough of their crap.
Right?! Me too!
Or when they’ve decided they’ve had enough of Jeanie’s crap.
Nice banner. She looks comfey.

Time to conjure a floating disk under your feet and glide around to where you need to go, or perhaps a flying carpet.
Next you’ll need a flying Roomba and a cat to pilot it. ๐
Could there be a Ceres type solution? 6 months in the human realm and 6 months in the genie realm.
Simple fix, just slit it up the side in the skirt section.
