Jeanie Bottle 682
I’d love me some magic poof powers…
Also, just wanted to remind everyone that I Dream of a Jeanie Bottle will go on hiatus for a few months after this storyline ends (starting around mid-April). During that time, we’d love to feature fanart drawn by the readers as weekly filler until CD Rudd gets back home and can make comics again. If you’d like your fanart to be featured here on the site, please email it to me at coredumperror@gmail.com.
But you got some books you love to read. So, trust in Jean and mostly Natalie to fix this probably based on the situation.
Trust a genie who has abandoned her master AGAIN? Remember, she left teen Natalie to fend for herself for a year or so. Highly irresponsible.
A year or so? Try six or seven, she grew into an adult.
@mike: Thanks for the correction. I made that comment on my phone, and wasn’t able to check.
But in any event, that just makes it worse for Jeanie.
@50srefugee: Yes, far worse, although this time we’re not certain he’s actually abandoned.
I wonder how long a mortal can exist inside a genie bottle without food, water and a toilet if the genie doesn’t return in a reasonable amount of time?
> trust in Jean
This is a bad idea.
Yes, Jeanie has a track record of making bad decision and forgetting to do something or changing things back to what they should be.
It not just a bad idea, it a terrible idea, but, it not like Neil has any other choice in this matter either!!!!
@Larry: Neil absolutely has a choice–a duty iin fact. He’s Jeanie’s Master, and he needs to accept the responsibilities that go with that. He’s as responsible for this predicament as Jeanie herself is.
Dangitall! I wanted next week’s (presumably) strip today, so we’d find out who Natalie’s master is.
You’re not the only one, heh.
Jeanie, you have got to stop abandoning your Master.
Neil, of course she’s got nerd books. She’s you. Try to keep up. Jeez.
I’m trying to figure out the significance of genie Natalie reading physics and engineering books. The best guess I could come up with was that she was genie-fied while in college. Which is way earlier than Neil and Jean should’ve found the genie bottle according to the original timeline. So that makes it more likely that Jean is the master, and that Jeanie told him about the bottle and her mishap with it. So Jean flew to Cocoa Beach, bought the bottle, brought it back, and made sure someone else opened it.
Another dark horse possibility is that Rodge is the master. And he’s making Natalie do his work for him.
Jean is the master, and that Jeanie told him about the bottle and her mishap with it. So Jean … made sure someone else opened it.Interesting! Won’t be surprised if that’s the case.
@50srefugee: I highly doubt that Jeanie told teen-Jean about the bottle. I’m almost certain that Neil opening the darn thing was a case of being stupidly curious when the two of them went shopping. It was a 50/50 chance which of them picked it up. That being said, Jean is now the Master…
Darth Jean: Now I am the master.
Neil Obi-Wan Anton: Only a master of evil, Darth.
@mike, there was virtually zero chances of Neil would have picked up the bottle first, if you read the original time when Jean first saw the bottle, it Jean that saw that bottle. It was Jean that was fantasizing about that bottle looking like the I Dream of Jeannie bottle that staring Barbra Eden. The bottle originally didn’t have a cork in the top of the bottle either or a current occupant genie in it also. It Jean that also liked the really big busted women, so while he was fiddling with that bottle with his physical hands, that caused transformed of Jean into a really bigger bustier Barbra Eden looking genie.
mike you keep avoiding the issue here that Neil has absolutely zero interest in that genie bottle and he didn’t even see it even while there in that pawn shop or antic shop. Neil isn’t even a little interested in the genie bottle at all, until Jean does his rant about it looking like the genie bottle of the I dream of Jeannie bottle.
If this is so and if this is what happened, then Jean had to of have had foreknowledge as to what would happen to who ever picked up the genie bottle first, would turn into a genie. We also know that there are only two people at the school prom that know about that genie bottle Neil and/or teen Natalie and Jeanie. Teen Neil and Teen Jean don’t know about that bottle yet, because, this if pr-Coco Beach time frame. There one of two people that could have alerted Teen Jean to the fact that there a genie bottle out there is Jeanie or Neil.
Jeanie has loose lips and they sink ships and the last time that Jeanie did a time travel it was to fix the time line with Jean, but, she gave Jean a little too much information about the future and he didn’t like it, so he got Neil to pick up the bottle first and said something about that being a female genie bottle and then let thing take a different course in the time line. Bad Jeanie, she tried to reason with Jean and gave him too much information about the future and he wanted a different future other than being turned into a female genie that look like Barbra Eden. If Jean knew what was going to happen, he is just the kind of guy that would get Neil to pick up that bottle instead of him picking up that bottle, he just that kind of guy.
@Larry: “The bottle originally didn’t have a cork in the top of the bottle either or a current occupant genie in it also.”
I think you’ve uncovered a hole in the entire plot line. The bottle didn’t have a cork. Why did the Jean picking the thing up result in his being transformed and not the Joe-schmuck stock boy that put it on the shelf in the first place?
@mike, don’t know!
Maybe Joe-schmuck was just handling merchandise and didn’t have anything else on his mind about that genie bottle. But, It was Jean picking up the genie bottle and fantasizing about the female genie that should be inhabiting that genie bottle that activated it and turned Jean into a Barbra Eden look alike. It was Araceli that other female genie that created the cork for Jeanie genie bottle or totem and that was maybe about a month after Jean became Jeanie. Just why nobody else was turned into genie that may have touched that genie bottle before Jean touched it and was turned into a genie. I don’t know why!
You go back to the two or three pages at the start of Jeanie Bottle and you will see it doesn’t have a cork in it.
Hey, Neil, maybe, since you’re in a gene’s totem, you do have poof powers. Have you tried? At the very least, you could try “Jeanie, I wish you’d get back here.”
Doesn’t necessarily have to be because he is in the genie’s totem.
In this time line Neil turned into the genie so perhaps the poof powers are shared between them.
To quote resident evil .. “No…! Don’t … go(?)!
Also… green poof? Hmm .. I wonder if the signature colours mean anything.
I think the poof colors just match the genie’s primary color. Jeanie’s is pink, Blue’s and Araceli’s are/were blue, Genie Neil’s is green. I think we’ve seen Guano’s poofs, but I can’t recall the color.
They’re guano colored, of course. Eww!
Guano’s were mostly red.
That Green poof, must be Natalie poof. CD seem to use different poof colors to identify different genie as they come in and out too.
I think just about everyone would want Poof Powers. lol
my theory that in the following pages we will learn that:
– Jean is the owner of the bottle and master of genie natalie.
– Natalie looks so busty because Jean has wished it.
– Jean is a lot more stupid than the original Jean.
– Genie Natalie is very submissive reflecting that her adolescent personality remains. Perhaps after the failure of her prom night due to Jeanie’s interruption of the chess game (Natalie and Danny).
– the dynamic would be as shown for the teenagers Neil and Jean, with Neil clearly submissive because of Jean’s attitude.
– we will learn that Jean uses genie natalie as his sex toy
Hmm… to tackle these in order…
Yes
Maybe
Maybe but not likely
No, because that Neil is standing here next to Jeanie
No and Yes: These would not be teenagers but adults. Jean’s dominance would be due to the Master/Genie relationship.
I hope not
@mike:
I believe that Frany meant that, when Natalie’s game with Danny was interrupted, Danny subsequently was free to interrupt Teen Neil’s time with Zoey, thus spoiling Teen Neil’s evening.
@ijuinkun: Agreed, Natalie’s departure from the game may have triggered a different timeline, but that does not explain genie-Natalie.
@mike:
Possibly, being refused for sex by Jeanie killed his attraction to girls who look like Barbara Eden, so he didn’t have so much fascination with the IDOJ television series, and thus was not inclined to open the bottle before Neil did.
It was Jean ranting about that looking like the IDOJ bottle that set everything into motion originally. If Jean doesn’t get interested in that bottle and does his rant about that bottle, Neil never would have picked it up even. Neil isn’t a little interested in that bottle and have passed it by if Jean wasn’t ranting and raving about that bottle.
I don’t suppose we will get a Thursday filler of Natalie the genie?????
Unfortunately, no. The comic is already written all the way out to the end of this storyline, with just Tuesday posts in the schedule.
We’ll get some filler after the storyline ends, though.
If she doesn’t come back and get him, he’s gonna start to get hungry…
If/when this mess ever gets sorted out and we’re left with two (?) independently-evolving timelines, I’d like to see Neil wish for an inter-dimensional smart phone so he and Natalie can stay in touch.
Besides personal contact, they could consult with each other on technical issues. I know Rodge is also supposed to be an engineer but, frankly, he doesn’t come across as the sharpest tool in the box. And Jean is dumb as rocks.
That’d be really cool!
time to explain two genies to the master
My guess: Whomever Nat’s master is, he is using her to advance his engineering degree by having her perform work that he can’t.
An interesting idea. Master would most likely be Rodge then.
Assuming you can’t get your work done directly by magic. “I wish for a rocket engine with a specific impulse of 1200 seconds.”
Which raises the question: Can genies create things which they, themselves, don’t understand?
I mean, we’ve seen sex changes, transmutation, living beings created out of nowhere or plants transformed into people. No one knows how to do those things — to say nothing of having the power to carry out the plan.
(Well, we know how to do transmutation. The trick is to make gold without melting or freezing the planet.)
Does a genie just think “I want such-and-such to happen” and the “details” are taken care of by some immaterial intelligence?
The Bible opens with a series of commands. “Let there by light”. “Let there by dry land”. “Let there be vegetation”
Those are orders. But to whom? Who does the work?
Maybe Natalie has to read technical books before she can solve technical problems for her Master.
Given that Jeanie needed to be shown a photograph of the General Lee before she could recreate it, I would wager that a genie needs to be able to visualize what the end result will be like, but does not need to know anything about the process of making it—the genie magic simply assembles molecules into the desired form. Jeanie’s inability to create doppelgängers that are more than dumb automatons does however imply that genie magic can not create souls or sapient life.
Jeanie had to be shown a picture of the General Lee because obviously Jean never watched the show and had no clue.
Neil the genie is reading those books because she hasn’t gone to Caltech. My guess is that Rodge is her master and that she’s trying to keep him from being fired, but is finding it harder to tutor him since she lacks the background Natalie had back in I Dream of Las Vegas.
The Fallacy in your argument is there no reason for Neil to be in Cocoa Beach until he goes Caltech to become an engineer and then get that job at the company that does most of there work doing subcontract work for NASA which is the place that he meet Rodge for the first time. Both Cincinnati and Caltech are over 1,000 miles away from Cocoa Beach. Even if Neil goes to Cocoa Beach, there isn’t any reason why he should have met Rodge, Barbra Eden or even have a reason to go to that pawn shop or antic dealer either.
The Fallacy in your assertion that my argument has a fallacy is that the Neil that is now a genie is wherever the bottle is now (which we don’t know is Cocoa Beach, BTW), so it really doesn’t matter whether she had a reason to want to be there before she was there. The fact that Neil the genie doesn’t recognize Jeanie the genie or Neil the Neil kind of supports the idea that Neil the genie doesn’t even know how she got to be in the bottle.
My guess is that Rodge has the bottle now is just that. Could be Danny–that could fit the “castling”. Could be a completely new character. But if this chapter is going to finish up in April, there isn’t a lot of room for too many more complications.
The timeline in this story has more turns than a plate of spaghetti. mmmm, spaghetti
So, like spaghetti, we must suck it up.
Neal likely picked up the totem bottle and was changed into a Genie at the same time as Jean did originally.
There could be an explanation why the Neal Genie looks like Natale. In the original timeline, when Jean turned Neal into a woman, it was a female version of Neal if he’d been born a female, Neal became Natalie, the hypothetical fraternal twin sister. If so then Natalie would have been a NASA engineer, but, seeing her costume, the NASA job may of ended!
When Neil went to Las Vegas as Natalie, Rodge wasn’t the only man who wouldn’t take her seriously as an engineer. Costume or no costume, it’s unlikely Neil would have been hired as engineer if she was female. Remember how easily the North Korean spy infiltrated by impersonating an office girl when she was showing obvious engineering expertise for anyone who wasn’t thinking with the little head.
We all know Neil wants to have magic powers he is jealous of Jean.
