I wonder if she’ll acknowledge that it was Natalie’s demand that she dress more conservatively that allowed her to make that jibe in the first place? heh

Rita’s outfit does say “slut.” There used to be chaperones at proms who would draw the line at overly revealing gowns. Strapless was OK, but there was a limit on cleavage. Shawls might be provided–to be worn the rest of the evening. Bare midriff? Might be sent home for a jacket, if not for a complete change. And in my time, the post-prom party was arranged by parents, who were on scene. A hotel was out of the question–neither set of parents would hear of such a thing. I wonder what Neil’s parents are doing while this is all going on…
Your right, that the way the lady of the night dress. There something about that kind of dress that says I am a harlot I am for sale at the right price for sex.
Rita’s outfit says, “This is what I want to wear.” Interpreting it as “slut” is all on you. Why is slut-shaming okay?
For the same reason that shaming men who are players is okay? If you want to dress like that as a fashion statement, fine. But you don’t really have grounds for complaining when people who see you automatically categorize you with women who dress like that to try to manipulate men.
And then they try and act like there so innocent too when they dress like that, when there intention was perfectly clear from the vert being as to what there intention were and what there intention or purpose for dressing like that was. There only one reason for dressing like that and that is to entice or to solicit a response from the men who will naturally go bug eyed over it, which it will and does do to the guys. That why there a dress code to stop that kind of dressing for the prom.
Rita response, give it away, she knew it would cause that kind of response and choose to do it anyway.
So I have absolutely no sympathy for her when everybody start gossiping and saying thing that they should not about another person. Rita brought it on herself. There is such a thing as using good judgement in the way that you choose to present yourself to other people.
Her dress is exaggerated a bit but two piece, bare midriff prom gowns have been around for a good 20 years or so.
However I think this is set a little before that and you’re right, there is a good chance she’d be refused entry with something this revealing. At least in the real world, in CD Rudd’s Jeannie world perhaps they’re more laid back.
The military look at the top of the page is a bit odd with the lipstick.
Jeanie couldn’t *possibly* leave the house without looking fabulous, no matter her outfit.

weather she like it or not, Rita is making sexual statement that she open for business. That why Natalie had to get Jeanie to change her dress that she was going to wear to the prom to another kind of dress for the prom. If you remember it was an almost exact copy of this dress too, but, with the slit in the dress on the other side.

The fact that you say she’s “open for business” is treating her as a non-person because I’d bet she’s open for nobody, including her date. Nope though I’m wondering how literal her threat to turn her into a bitch is, Natalie is probably going to rein in anything too severe if only to save the timeline. I’m suspecting its more likely that Jeanie is going to go further than she’s comfortable with to “teach Rita a lesson” then turning herself and/or some innocent bystander into a girl.

Except that Rita isn’t concerned with Neil and his date, she’s focused on Jeanie and probably hasn’t even noticed Natalie because she isn’t an active threat to her ego.
I agree with mike here. The only two people that Rita is interested in putting down or that she even concerned with is Jean and Jeanie, because, they are the only ones that Rita is worried about or is afraid of or might be a threat to her ego.
I don’t think Rita considers Jean a threat to her ego at all, she considers him a dweeb and dweebs are nothing to fear. Jeanie, on the other hand, challenges her supremacy as the hot babe on campus… cheerleader, dates a star football player, has daddy’s credit card. The blond transfer student from “Istanbul” that swept in and scooped up her discarded fan boy and makes him look good just by hanging on his arm (insert ZZ Top tune about Legs, here).
In panels two and three Neil looks like he’s thinking “What have I gotten myself into.”
It would be cool if Rita really is a witch and the magic flys when Rita and Jeanie get into it and male Neil not knowing any better thinks Rita is a genie and says something like: “I wish Rita was really a genie,” and Jeanie turns Rita into a bottle genie.
Here’s hoping Ms. Eden is a chaperone for this dance, and that she and Jeanie discover what each other is.
That not likely to happen, because, Ms. Eden was in Florida before she got de-genied in about 1980 or so and sent to California, where she choose to go back to Florida to look for her old Master when she was a Genie and became Ms. Eden. So she is either in Florida or California for the last 70 years or so. Cincinnati, Ohio is completely out of the way where Ms. Eden would have been or where she would have gone even.
Never mind, then. I forgot they had gone to another state.
Still, something will eventually have to get them to travel back to where she was in the past.
