Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
Yes, there were several of us, saying that Jeanie the Blond exchange student and now even Neil is saying that Jeanie was the Blond exchange student. The only one that not say that Jeanie is the Blond exchange student is Jeanie and yes, Jeanie is that dense too. Jeanie definitely live to the title of the dum Blond.
That hottie Jeanie can’t quite remember the name of is key to the man Jean became, at least until he found that bottle. Is there something else Jeanie ought to be remembering now about what happened after the prom between himself and that not-quite-remembered hottie?
Jeanie, you have already told Rita your name is Jeanie Bottle back in #632. Personally I think the perfect name for prom would be Comfort XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX . Last name is Redneck not acceptable on a PG rated comic.
If you spike the punch with a bottle of “Old Underpants” you will be giving the plot away. If you spike it with a jar of Willie’s finest all you know what will break loose. I vote for Old Underpants.
Look at it this way; this’ll be a learning experience for Jeannie regarding her original behaviour towards women…. Unless of course Neil/Natalie gets to be “volunteered” again 🙂
Maybe somebody spiked the punch bowl and he spent too much time drinking the punch and now he can’t remember what happened. Everything is kind of foggy and blurry in his memory afterward. We will just have to wait and see what really happened. Jeanie memories are incomplete and not totally there as to what really happened during the school prom night. I use to work at a place where people that use to work there would go out and get totally bombed out of there gourd and forget about happened and then start asking what did happen when they were out there. One guy pee his pant when he drunk. Another ran threw a hedge bush with car, etc. Jean, could be one of those kind of guys and just not remember what happened.
Regrettably, it’ll be a week ’till we see the pearl finish dropping through the Prell, and she realizes she herself is The One. I hope she remembers Jean having, ahem, A Wonderful Time… as defined by teenaged boys!
Is it denseness or just another sign of Jean’s self-absorption? Jeanie knows she isn’t an exchange student, so obviously she can’t be the the exchange student, now can she?
She is also not a high school student at that high school ether, so she can’t say that she one of the High students. Jeanie claiming to be the Blond Exchange Student that Jean remembers going out with, just hasn’t occurred to her yet. Yes, Jeanie is that dense and Jeanie is see this through Jean eye as he remembers the blond girl that he went out with. The young teenage Jean doesn’t see himself as the future blond girl that he going be going out with to the prom and that the way that Jeanie is looking at this issue too. That why, Jeanie is going through all the names that sound similar to her name Jeanie, but, never come up with the name Jeanie which is her name, because, then she would recognize that she was the blond girl that Jean when out with to the Prom. That why Neil has to come up with the name Jeanie as the girl that young teenage Jean went to the Prom with. Jeanie remembering that she was Jean date to the prom is not there yet, because, it still a future event from Jeanie perspective, like one entire day from like right now.
We’ll have to wait&see, but maybe Jeanie did NOT go to prom with himself. Maybe, after finally recognizing the situation (or having Teen Nat tell her that Jeanie herself stated that she was going to prom with Jean), she will decide that would be “awkward”, and poof Neil into a teen Jeanie lookalike for prom.
That would explain why she doesn’t remember being their own prom date… and until now, she’d have no reason to remember being her own date.
Jeanie doesn’t seem to realize that her younger self believed her when she said to Rita she was going to be his date. And my last post gives the reason why present-day Jeanie has to follow through, even after she realizes what has to happen after the prom…
Doesn’t have to be Nat. She could poof Rita into a lookalike of herself, and tell her the only to get poofed back to normal is to go to the prom with Jean and make sure he gets lucky.
Although there are other possibilities out there, the most likely possibility that it could be, is that Jeanie doesn’t remember going out with Jean, because, it hasn’t happened yet, because, it is still the day before the Prom when Jeanie went out with Jean. In Jeanie mind, Jeanie remembered going out with a Blond exchange girl six or seven years ago. The time loop that I am talking about, hasn’t made a complete circle yet and connected itself to the past that Jeanie remembers. That why is doesn’t register in Jeanie mind that she the girl that Jean went out with, because, it hasn’t happened yet and so Jeanie can’t remember it, because, it still future event that Jeanie has yet to experience.
In addition to that, Jeanie also can’t tell Jean the truth, that she his future self after he picked up the Genie Bottle and wished that he could do Barbra Eden and then got turned into a like of Barbra Eden and got made into a real live Genie too. That she doing one of those TV Genie time travel thing into the past and she here to take him out on a date. Jeanie can’t do this, she going to be lying to Jean and almost everything that she say, is going to have to be a lie and there is no way around it for her, but, to lie to him and that what Jean going to remember all way up until Jean turns into Jeanie and now back to today the day before the prom, that what Jeanie remembers and is the reality that she remembers. The Blond exchange student, is just a cover story so Jeanie can step in and do her number and then retreat from this issue after the prom.
I can’t wait to see the expression on Jeanie’s face when Neil/Natalie asks her if she can remember what he(Jean) did with her(Jeanie) after the prom. did Jean remember to book a room?
There’s a real possibility that nothing happened after prom. Jean’s machismo on pages 634 and 635 might just be self-delusional bluster with nothing to back it up. All talk and no action, common with teenagers. This theory can be supported by his reactions on pages 639 and 631 (with a long pause in between to gaze at the girls in their bunny suits)… petulant comes to mind. “But… but you said…”
I believe Jean’s psyche will not allow him to accept failure or rejection. He convinced himself that HE dumped Rita for the transfer student instead of being dumped. He’s speechless when a gorgeous blond clings to his arm at that moment and bolsters his ego by calling him a stud and invites herself to be his prom date. I suspect that Jean will take this blond to the prom, they’ll dance, maybe hold hands, but it ends there because the blond is constantly looking for that transfer student to suddenly appear and take over… because that’s how Jean remembered that’s how things happened.
Now why is that? As I said, Jean cannot accept rejection. When Jeanie suddenly realizes that she’s the It girl she will panic and almost certainly bail, because getting it on with her younger self would be unthinkable. Jean will convince himself that he had a wonderful time with (Ginny, Joy, Joelle, Jubilee… insert funny last name here) which is a memory that he will carry forward, possibly with embellishments, until that fateful day when he pops open that empty totem and becomes Jeanie Bottle.
I believe that he did reserve hotel room, because, that where he was planning taking Rita to after the prom dance. I have a better question than that.
What Jeanie going to do when Jean try’s to take her to the Hotel room to bed her?
We know she not going to do it. But, Jeanie has to do something, because, it will effect the way Jean see himself and future that Jeanie remembers. Does Jeanie do the Genie Blink on Jean and give him false memories of what really happen that night. Don’t know.
@Larry: You think Jeanie will suddenly develop compassion for someone else (yes, it is her younger self, but still… she is rather self centered) and act in a manner that confirms Jean’s memory of events? Remember, a genie may not mess with a mortal’s free will, altering memories could possibly fall under that blanket taboo. On the flipside, you really can’t change your past, you can only be a part of what already transpired.
@mike, this compassion that you think Jeanie may be developing for this younger Jean self, can swing both way as we know. When Jean pop the idea up of going to the hotel room that he originally was planning to take Rita to, we may see the flip side of this compassion that you claim that Jeanie has for Jean and become an anger or rage after asking to get sexual with her. Emotion outburst that are associated with compassion are like a revolving door, in that they can go in either direction depending on this situation. We will basically has to wait to see what happens and which direction the revolving door is pushed or turns.
It has already been established that Jeanie can’t force someone to do something outside there will and there will be terrible consequences if and when she choose to do that. It doesn’t mean that she can’t use her magic, it just means that she has to be careful on how or when she chooses to use her magic. Remember the Greek Female Sea captain that tried to force Jeanie to be her wife so that she could keep her and have his own Genie too and Jean doesn’t have her bottle either to use Jeanie powers. So Jeanie has a limited free will of her own here, even as a Genie and on more than one occasion has demonstrated that ability too.
Jeanie can still lie to Jean like we can lie to each other and there no consequences because she a Genie, because, she not using her magic to do it. She will be lying to Jean, because, she can’t tell him that she his future self and that she a real live Genie too. That not going to happen and can not be allowed to happen either and so by default everything that Jeanie tell Jean will have to be a lie. Those lie that Jean come to believe to be the truth, will come from several different direction all at the same time and they will become, what Jean and later Jeanie believe the true history was that she remembers.
1. Jeanie lying to Jean from start by telling him, that she an exchange student.
2. Jean lying to himself, because, he can’t accept rejection. You mentioned this one.
3. Jeanie using her magic in this situation on a limited basis and not violate Jean will in the process.
4. Other things that I haven’t thought up yet, like crashing into an alternate time line, etc.
5. All of the above or some combination of the above. We are basically have to wait and see what does fall out of this mess.
I don’t even understand your problem with this. What could this chapter POSSIBLY repeat from earlier in the comic, considering that no other chapters have included time travel in any meaningful capacity?
See I called it pages ago but who will Natalie go with?
I cant belive Jeannie is that oblivious
Denial is a powerful thing.
I’m beginning to wonder why no teacher has asked them why they are not in class.
No one else appears to be in class at the moment, probably between periods or after classes
“Jeanie really is that dense.”
Yes, she is. That’s why she needs someone like Neil to be her Master.
Wow. —All You Zombies—
somebody oughta give Jeannie a heavy hit in the head with a LOTTA Common Sense!
Jeanie is so dense that she should be invisible at this point.
That hottie Jeanie can’t quite remember the name of is key to the man Jean became, at least until he found that bottle. Is there something else Jeanie ought to be remembering now about what happened after the prom between himself and that not-quite-remembered hottie?
A penny drops through treacle faster than a thought dropping into Jeanie’s brain. I don’t wanna make a dumb blonde joke, but…
I imagine when Jeannie realizes that she is her own date, the icon at the top of the page will be wearing her prom dress.
Jeanie, you have already told Rita your name is Jeanie Bottle back in #632. Personally I think the perfect name for prom would be Comfort XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX . Last name is Redneck not acceptable on a PG rated comic.

Great, a predestination paradox…
Jean is clearly suffering from mental pause.
Look at it this way; this’ll be a learning experience for Jeannie regarding her original behaviour towards women…. Unless of course Neil/Natalie gets to be “volunteered” again 🙂
Can’t remember the name of his prom date? Boy, he really must have tied one on that night…
I’ve done all that without touching a drop of alcohol. (They never tell you about your older bladder in hygiene class.)
Regrettably, it’ll be a week ’till we see the pearl finish dropping through the Prell, and she realizes she herself is The One. I hope she remembers Jean having, ahem, A Wonderful Time… as defined by teenaged boys!
“the pearl finish dropping through the Prell.” Now that’s an analogy that neatly fits this scenario.
got a bad feeling the hottie who ask him to prom was his future genie self
Why a “bad” feeling?
And that is almost certainly the case. Of all the names teen-Nat threw out, “Jeanie” was the only one to get even a “maybe” in response.
Ahem. teen-Nat only proposed the name “Jeanie”. The rest were given by teen-Jeanie herself.
As hard as I’ve been on Jeanie, the more I look at this, the more I think this isn’t just her being a ditz.
Neil has suggested “Jeanie” straight out, and she didn’t even twitch–despite her having just cuddled up to teen-Jean only moments ago.
I wonder if she’s being blocked by some timey-wimey or magical side effect.
We’ve seen something of the like before /?comic=jeanie-bottle-392 although I don’t think that’s exactly what’s happening here.
BTW – i suspect that that last balloon ought be “Jubilee”, not “Jubliee”
Whoops!
Is it denseness or just another sign of Jean’s self-absorption? Jeanie knows she isn’t an exchange student, so obviously she can’t be the the exchange student, now can she?

Jean/Jeanie may well score an achievement that many have suggested they try all their life! 😀
Not so sure they’ll see any problem with that, actually . . . .
Oh for the love of god. No, “I’m my own grandfather” storylines. We all know where this is going (well, one of 3 scenario’s):
* Jean dates himself
* Jean gets Neil to date himself
* We have a repeat of an older chapter
Think I’m going to sit this chapter out.
According to Mendel’s laws, you cannot be your own granpa even with time travel.
Concur, heartily.
On the other hand, I do like the “I was my own prom date” scenario.
I don’t even understand your problem with this. What could this chapter POSSIBLY repeat from earlier in the comic, considering that no other chapters have included time travel in any meaningful capacity?
