The Blue Djinn is an evil genie who was apparently defeated by Lord Guano in the past. But now he's back, and he's angling to take down the Genie Lords... but how does Jeanie factor into his plans?
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
I think that is the only way actually. If you remember Kazom said a genie can’t effect another genies magic. One of the reasons Red in the Melvin comic can’t be turned back to normal.
@Latios, Well, the actual “rule”, is that Genies try to not intervene with other Genies magic, cause it’s a huge effort, that not only costume a lot of their own magic (which means, their own life) but has the risk of going horrible wrong. Just strong genies can (or dare) to do such thing, and in fact we have seen Guano, Kazom (on his prime human form), and even “felt” Haji influence in other genies magic, but we are talking Lords now, and Haji himself. Even Blue now, in her current form, seems to avoid messing with the magic of others. Either attacking before they can react, of flat out, tricking them into her trap.
Keep in mind that Blue is technically using Jean’s magic. It’s possible they can use that as a loophole to undo Blue’s work without truly intervening in another genie’s magic.
Hell no! I would be morally bound to burn with Fire my side of the canon!… besides, funny enough the Witches of… The Witches, had the exact opposite goals and desires that all the ones I am writing. Even the evil ones.
Classic bad guy epic fail. Instead of killing off the good guys, the bad guy leaves them alive but in a restricted state (imprisoned, stranded, crippled, etc., in this case transformed into mice). Usually so they can gloat (I’m surprised there wasn’t a premature victory speech where Blue spills all his plans to the “mice” thinking they can’t stop him, giving them valuable intel they can act on once they figure out a way to transform back).
From a storytelling standpoint, I can understand why it’s done (the story ends if the protagonist dies). And it does a good job of keeping the audience hooked (“how will the good guys escape?”). But from a practical standpoint, it’s stupid. A real bad guy would simply eliminate the good guys the moment they had the opportunity. It reduces the chance of some sort of plot reversal from minuscule to zero.
In this case, a common genie rule might apply: Genies can’t kill humans. Not directly. Sending the man-eating plant after them certainly doesn’t count as killing Neil and Rodge. But squishing them by herself would definitely violate that rule. So, Blue hopes the two mice won’t survive long.
@Makaira and @Hippo. On top of that, we know that some of the “rules” are actual natural limits no even genies can break, even if they try. Granted, we don’t know if not killing mortals is one of those natural rules, but if they can’t force a Mortal through magic to obey them, without their own magic turning agains them, I guess killing human mortals may be in the same league of “just don’t”.
And again, I mean “natural” rules, not the arbitrary ones of Haji like “not intervene on WWII!” but more of our own Natural rules like “Don’t try to breathe under water”
Actually, “Don’t try to breathe under water” is not rule at all. It’s like part of manual for lungs: “Designed for breathing air. Breathing anything else is not likely to work and may result in permanent damage.” If you want example of rule, try “upward buoyant force that is exerted on a body immersed in a fluid, whether fully or partially submerged, is equal to the weight of the fluid that the body displaces.” or “you can’t move faster than light in vacuum”.
Killing humans however doesn’t really seem like physical law. If I were to guess it’s limitation done by King Solomon.
No curly eyelashes on these mice, meaning that once again Blue proves how evil she is: She won’t even give us readers the satisfaction of a gender transformation!
I asked CDRudd on his DA page, and he said “that’s a very good question.” which i’m pretty sure it means: “I don’t know when to start my Wolfpac Comic.”
Too bad they’re main characters, since that means they’ll be fine in a few strips. If they were just randoms, this could be a permanent change and two people have their lives ruined forever, for however long said lives would last. Definitely would do more to make Blue a threat.
Yes, but that’s like offing Red Shirts on Star Trek, or “Crewman Number Six.” Those nameless characters are expendable. Of course, if this going to go the path of Game of Thrones, we might see a whole lot of death and destruction before Blue is taken down.
More background characters. There’s no real sense of danger here because Neil and Rodge are main characters. They’re going to be fine so thus this doesn’t feel very threatening. If it was said or otherwise implied that Neil and Rodge are stuck like that regardless of Blue’s defeat, that would make this scene much more intense and worthy of being an ‘oh crap’ moment.
Mike otherwise has it right. Background characters being threatened mean nothing. They exist to be fodder and to show Blue’s personality and cruelty. That’s why a couple of backgrounders getting changed into mice and then tossed out into the world works much more than two main characters getting changed, because it’s been shown that background characters are often STUCK that way. It has more impact.
This is just something that will get resolved in time because again, main characters and plot armor.
Would she? Beyond Asha’s Totem being buried with her previous master, we have little details about post mortem owner ship of a genie! Granted, right now, Blue must thing of herself as the “wife” of a Genie Lord (which I guess she is now), so she may be above most rules right now, but still, the rules regards a Master dead are not entirely clear.
Also Asha Totem with her previous master has one more wish to go to satiny the three wish rule for each master that take control over the Totem too. Since he dead, that is never going to happen. Before Asha could go on to a new master. So technically, Asha is free of the Genie needing find to a new master and has limited freedom to do what she want to do.
And the best laid plans of mice and men oft times go astray. Sorry Mr. Steinbeck. I still hope Lily comes back and eats Blue or that Jean tricks Blue into drinking some of Willies moonshine. Since jean is human now all she will do is get drunk but Blue will start sneezing and reverse everything he/she has done.
I would need to count now, but, out of at least… 15? sneezes, only one actually reversed one of Jenie’s previous spells, and it’s even imply that the one reversed spell, Red becoming a boy again, was “fixed” once Jeanie went back to her bottle, turning Red back into a girl. So, the bet of poisoning Blue with Moonshine would be:
– Forcing Blue to conceal herself inside the bottle, out of fear of dying of over use of magic.
– OR, Blue would turn to be such a sour loser, that she would rather destroy everyone out of chaotic magic sneezes, even if it take her life. So it would be a bet of whoever can take more, Blue consuming all the magic she stole, or Jeanie and the gang enduring the magic sneezes.
There at least two other possibilities here.
1. Haji wasn’t serious about retiring, because, he knew that Blue was after him.
2. Everybody else is thinking that Guano going to be the new Haji, but, there always the upset and somebody else becomes the new Haji. God forbid that it should end up in Jeanie hands.
There is also the chance, depending of how those bows and bonds made in the ritual work, that whoever stay in Jean’s genie body by the end (Either Jean or Blue) will still be Guano’s wife/mate, no matter the outcome of this storyline… So either they will be the “first” of a Genie Lord or Haji himself, so… Jean may get a promotion? Not that she will be to happy about it, though she isn’t to happy about anything right now.
It’s Robert Burns, to whose poetry the Steinbeck title alluded. The original Scots phrase is “gang aft agley.”. Modern ignorami change it to “oft go awry.”
Life as mice this is bad how will Jean even save the day when he cant even stand to fight back. Brightside the cat could be Teri.
Unfortunately Teri is from Sailorsun.com, not IDOAJB.
The cat they need to see is Kazom.
At this point, I’m hoping that Blue’s defeat negates all her active magic. That’s the only way I can imagine Neil and Rodge being restored.
I think that is the only way actually. If you remember Kazom said a genie can’t effect another genies magic. One of the reasons Red in the Melvin comic can’t be turned back to normal.

well, let’s hope scientists won’t use THEM for experiments.
Maybe they will meet up with Stewart Little.
Or do we have a “The Witches” story line coming up?
Hell no! I would be morally bound to burn with Fire my side of the canon!… besides, funny enough the Witches of… The Witches, had the exact opposite goals and desires that all the ones I am writing. Even the evil ones.
Dare I ask what you mean by that?
… This was even a trap, or just an epic fail?
Surprise epic fail I thought roaches though. Cause Blue sees mortals as basic insects.
Classic bad guy epic fail. Instead of killing off the good guys, the bad guy leaves them alive but in a restricted state (imprisoned, stranded, crippled, etc., in this case transformed into mice). Well… that’s that then.
Very few stray cats in Coco. Lots of snakes though, especially along the beach green zone. I would worry about those, they love mice.
I notice that Blue can’t kill them directly, change yes , not kill. let nature take it’s course.
It looks like the next sitcom parody will be “Pinky & the Brain”.
On a more serious note, a genuine threat to Neal may be the only thing that could motivate Jean at this point.
Rodges first transformation isnt into a woman. Sad.
We don’t know that yet. How do you even tell a male mouse from a female one at first glance?
Disney answered that. It’s the eyelashes, which are secondary sex characteristics for toons.
No curly eyelashes on these mice, meaning that once again Blue proves how evil she is: She won’t even give us readers the satisfaction of a gender transformation!
Whatever happened to the man-eating plant? She seemed nice…she was one hell of a kisser…
Blue probably forgot to water her, or left her in the shade, or let her get pot-bound.
It was hit by ship. In strip 533.
It has been a few months since anyone has asked, so I will try asking again: what happened to the plans to start up Wolfpac?
I asked CDRudd on his DA page, and he said “that’s a very good question.” which i’m pretty sure it means: “I don’t know when to start my Wolfpac Comic.”
I was hoping Rodgers would get transformed into a female genie like Jean, sad that didn’t happen.
Hasn’t happened…YET. Changing Rodge into a woman wouldn’t help Blue.
That only happens when no one owns the bottle. Since Blue owns it right now, that wouldn’t happen.
Wow hexed bottle,Pixie and Dixie didn’t see that coming.
Shoot
Hey whos plan was it to take the bottle from Blue in the first place cause now massive regrets.
Well, it another fine mess you got me into Rodge, says Neil!!
I guess they should have lesion to Jeanie. But, since when have men ever lesion to a women anyway.
Given Blue is in Jean’s body, I wonder if she turned Neil into a female mouse through the magical equivalent of muscle memory.
Well, there are worse things to be turned into. But of course, there are much much cooler things to be turned into instead.
Too bad they’re main characters, since that means they’ll be fine in a few strips. If they were just randoms, this could be a permanent change and two people have their lives ruined forever, for however long said lives would last. Definitely would do more to make Blue a threat.
Blue has already murdered like half a dozen genies, which we didn’t even know was possible until we saw Blue do it. I think she’s plenty threatening…
Yes, but that’s like offing Red Shirts on Star Trek, or “Crewman Number Six.” Those nameless characters are expendable. Of course, if this going to go the path of Game of Thrones, we might see a whole lot of death and destruction before Blue is taken down.

Blue forgot important thing: if her ‘Master’ dies, she will be pulled into her bottle and trapped there.

That just leaves us Jean and Lily. What could go wrong. I am still trying to figure out who is going to get the promotion.
I’ve assumed from the start the the titular “promotion” is Guano’s presumed ascension to Haji.

I like that idea! provided it comes with much needed character development for both characters.
It’s Robert Burns, to whose poetry the Steinbeck title alluded. The original Scots phrase is “gang aft agley.”. Modern ignorami change it to “oft go awry.”
I think that “squeek” translates into something rude and unprintable
Well are we men or mice, well squeak up!
