Chapter: Story 09: I Dream of Technicolor
Characters: Rouyaa
The news report in the comic is from
Clip #18 “We Are Waiting for You – 1944-04-17 RSH Germany Calling”
at 2 minutes and 16 seconds mark.
the radio playlist is a nice touch. and a new genie has just appeared behind Rouyaa? awesome.
I suspect that is Lord Guano
Or maybe Kazom when he was still a Genie Lord. Kazom did mention about a bottle genie that Hitler “supposedly” had before, maybe one of his charges.
Your thinking of Eve Brown, Adolph Hitlers girlfriend. According to previous installment of this series, Eve Brown was a Genie and that how Hitler became so powerful and all.
That’s actually who Rouyaa is referring to in panel 1.
Braun. Eva Braun.
what winston churchill called the “soft underbelly of europe” turned out to be a “tough old gut”.
Relegated? Well, since Andy was convinced to NOT make any wishes with Rouyaa, she must’ve decided to hang around like a housewife. Would that make them a common-law couple?
A few years later…
Got to love time skips!
So, who is this other genie? A supervisor? Guano? Kazom? Or someone new? I can only imagine this genie is in for a lecture about not granting wishes quick enough.
Hmmm… I can see him wishing for this war to end. Then Chuck Norris is born! The nazis surrender a week later!
I love back stories! I am looking forward to this arc and to what we will find out about everyone. And hopefully Ms. Eden is in it too! We need her back story too. Hopefully she plays a major part in things.
Potential nitpick (didn’t listen to the playlist): “Souther Italy” –> “Southern Italy”?
Oh phooey! I rewrote that line due to another typo, and introduced that typo myself! I’ll fix it.
Robert, listening to the clip, the actual quote is:
“…the German defense system in southern Italy is stronger…”,
not
“…the German defenses in southern Italy are stronger…”
Just FYI…
I know. The quote that CD actually wrote out used to be even more different from the original broadcast, before I fixed that typo mentioned in another comment. It’s not supposed to be 100% identical.
Does it mean anything if she is not wearing her hat?
It was established a while back that the reason Jeanie wears her hat all the time is that she forgets it’s there, and thus doesn’t remove it when she changes her outfit.
I think it’s kind of like those people who push up their eyeglasses on top of their heads and then forget about them.
So it just means she is smarter than Jean, which frankly is not that hard.
I suppose she’s been in touch with her fellow genies since she was decanted…
If she’s not playing house wife, she may be playing the cousin on hard times role. Things will get interesting for a bit now that genie lord showed up.
If that’s Guano then he had MUCH cooler hair back then.
I’m curious if she settled down with her master now. I know it doesn’t look it but she said she’d wait a long while, and this could be a short time skip.
Yes, this scene could be only a week or two later.
No, it has to be a minimum of three years to maximum of about 11 years later or so. There talking about the American Army going up the boot of Italy. That was about two years after the United States joined the war. United States declared war in Dec. 9, 1941. Pearle Harbor was sunday Dec. 8, 1941. The US army was going up the boot of Italy in about 1943 sometime and the end of the war was sometime in 1945. When they first pop that bottle open is some time between 1929 and about 1939 or 1940.
Matter of fact, if the author wanted to at this point, he could have seven or eight year old boy walk into the room that is her son too. Whether or not he chooses to do that is up to him. It would add and interesting twist to the story too.
Can genies get pregnant? They’re not strictly “human”, and they live off of their well of magical energy, rather than mundane things like food.
In some version they can and in other version of these Genie’s they can’t get pregnant. It has more to do with what the author chooses to do with it, but, there no hard core Genie can’t get pregnant or can get pregnant. It depend on what CD Rudd want to do with this version of what Genie’s can do. If CD Rudd says they can’t, then they can’t, but, if CD Rudd say’s they can, then they can.
Only CD Rudd knows for sure, which way it is.
I think the male genie is Guano. Kazom was depicted in human form in a flashback in “The Melvin Chronicles” and wasn’t particularly buff–or tall. And I wonder why Guano is calling our housewife-genie “Eevi.” If she’s meant to be Eva Braun, she wouldn’t have to worry about fixing radiators. Hitler’s mistress lived a life of luxury literally until the day she died.
On the other hand, it would explain how that bottle got vacant.
She’s meant to be TALKING about Eva Braun not be Eva herself
The line about Eevi is being spoken by Rouyaa.
I gotta say, I feel really uncomfortable dragging Hitler’s actual mistress/wife/life partner-in-pursuit-of-genocide into a fantasy gag comedy. Especially in anything that looks like a victim role. It is just tacky.
wait for it.
Has someone been watching Psych?
I was suppose to be responding to Random22’s comment.
Random22,
You have to understand, this is one comic out of many. There’s more comics that will expand on this comic.
If you just say “WWII was good…” people will get upset. But if you put it in context with what comes after, “WWII was good as a catalyst for the economy to get out of the depression.” Then it’s not as bad as one might have reacted.
It could be also implied that Rouyaa knew Eevi prior to her recent release. Genies do live a long time. They might even have been friends or family, in which case Rouyaa being sympathetic to her friend’s plight and be understandable. EXPECTUALLY knowing what the long term results of global magic usage.
I’d also like to point out, that it’s never been CLEARLY said in the comics that Eva Brun and the ‘Genie’ Eva (or as Rouyaa calls her Eevi) is the same person. It’s only been implied, threw Jean’s interptation of Kazom’s explanation.
If you review history on Eva Brun was kept away from the facts and participated very little (if at all) in the war efforts. She is mainly only known for whom she was involved with. There’s also evidence that she was a little bit mentally unsound (both during the prior to WWII).
Lastly if using history as a bases of a fictional story upsets you… then best skip this story, cause I had to do a LOT of research for this storyline. And this will not be the ONLY link between fiction and real life history.
Sorry one of Shawn Spencer’s catch phrases in Psych is “Wait for it…” Speaking of which Have yiu seen the show?
Just under 3500. 🙂
Yeah, I mean I see where you are coming from. Just… I still have family members still alive who lived through that era and after heard some of their stories and seen their reaction when something they just Cannot Talk About comes up, it just makes me uneasy. I’m sorry if I was a pain to you about it.
Do you mind if I ask how long (roughly) this segment runs for? I think leaving it might be a good idea, for me. I’m sure you will do well telling the story, your skill at that is not in dispute at all.
How bout this Random, if you see the black and white theme current displayed. Then we’re still in the storyline.
According to the Wikipedia article, Eva Braun was characterized by those who knew her as “inconsequential and feather-brained”.
So apparently she was pretty much the same model of genie as Jean is. 😉
I don’t think that is Lord Guano, my money is on Kazom. Either that or this is before Guano’s Turban phase.
I Agree. I would expect Guano to be more angry and less sarcastic
