Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
I’m so confused. I mean, I still don’t really get why the doppelganger was created in the first place, or what it is she needs to do to fix it, so with each new development the confusion snowballs.
The doppelganger was created when Jean tried to poof the girl into loving Melvin. That violated the Jeannie rules. Jean has to get Melvin to love her to break the “curse” and get her powers and body back. (I think.)
Poofing a guy into a girl and requiring her to grant wishes and marry er master=ok. Forcing a girl to love a guy= not ok. It’s the Gennie legal system not the Gennie justice system.
Nope. Frogs don’t do well in a chlorinated pool environment and if it’s a typical school pool it’s more chlorine than water. Surprised Jean’s chlothes didn’t come out almost pure while from bleaching… 😀
Her clothes haven’t so much shrunk as changed from what she found in her boy’s closet to what a girl would be wearing to a dance–if she wanted attention from the boys, that is. Which she’s already getting, from a previous strip. Why it’s happening is another question; maybe the change that Jean started way back when is still progressing. Otherwise, it would be the doppelganger’s doing, and it’s not clear why she would, as it doesn’t seem to relate to the Jean/Melvin thing.
It’s like the redhead recieved what Jean lost… if Jean went from 13 or 14 to like six, red went from 16 to like 21. But I don’t understand how Jean is ever going to be able to resolve this situation. Which is okay, I guess, it will be a surprise –
Well let’s see… Both geeks look taller, older, more attractive, and are in more fashionable clothes. Meanwhile Jeanie appears to be a young girl wearing clothes appropriate to a 5-7 year old.
If it wasn’t for the differing hair colors, I’d say you had a family with a daughter. ;D
Nice. I like what’s happenin’ to the redhead. Also, almost looks like the glasses wearing one is gaining some chest too. I have a feeling I’m wrong there though, but can’t help but hope there. XD Either way, nice update, and eager to see more.:D
It appears otherjean has transfered age from Jean to the two friends. The friends now look too old to be in Melvin’s class and Jean is too young to lure Melvin’s attention away from his hot genie. An unusual but creative way of getting rid of them.
It looks to me like the geek friends got bigger/older, but stayed in their same clothes, though the “girl’s” clothes stayed the same size while the boy’s clothes grew with him. Also, Jean’s clothes stayed the same size while she got smaller/younger.
For a soulless wish fulfillment occupying Jean’s body, the doppleganger is pretty darn smart. Making the friends older and Jean younger removes them as “competition” for Melvin’s affection.
The frog should be OK in the pool for a while at least . . .
Making Jean younger and the other two older is a good way to make sure Jean is taken care of and the other two will no no longer provide much of a distraction. Now Jeans’ body has Melvin all to herself.
Okay. I hate to have to criticize, please accept this as my attempt to be constructive. But you’re really throwing in TOO many complications into the story. Jeannie keeps getting blinked away, she’s turned into a teenie bopper, she’s turned into a little girl, she has to convince Melvin to reject the wish, etc. Resolve some of these things. Please.
No there are MANY ways short of deus ex machina to resolve it. The problem is that they require Jean to let go of his ego and ask for help. Which is EXACTLY the point. Jean got into the problem by trying to force his will on another. He can only get out by letting the other person choose.
For example, the redhead and the guy can go talk to Melvin for Jean and explain what’s going on. But Jean is extremely unlikely to ask them and I don’t think they understand enough to think of it themselves.
As another example, he can let the night play out and wait for Melvin at home. Fighting against the doppleganger is just continuing to try and force his will on Melvin.
@Khamya9 So there are no negative consequences for anyone else over everything that’s been forced upon Jean since this whole mess first began? Fine, whatever. But Jean gets punished any time she tries to push back against the ridiculous and endless list of rules and expectations that she’s been expected to follow without any meaningful instruction? Sure, that’s remotely fair.
Honestly, it’s gotten to the point that I’m a little frustrated with the series. She needs to be cut a damn break already, and one without any super-cheap catches. The events of her thread of the story don’t always have to come at her expense in order to be entertaining, after all.
Thank you everyone for the civilized tone of the conversation so far.
My impression increasingly is that CD Rudd has been making things up as he goes along. I don’t know if he has any resolution planned. I don’t like to complain, but that’s honestly the impression I get. And TPL is right — cut Jean a break.
Well, as for Deus ex blackbox resolutions, there’s two genies around. That cat, and the blue genie, though that might require a little backbone from Neil. Well, three if you count LSH, but he seems more like he’d be inclined to let someone suffer than to help them out.
I think, perhaps, a solution without involving the other genies would be something of a Cinderella story – that is, if the power-incarnate clone doesn’t win a kiss/etc from Prince Charming Melvin before the end of the dance, then the disempowered genie body and the disembodied genie power get merged back together again. (Though, maybe keeping the ‘young girl’ form as the new default?)
If nothing else, though, one of these powers floating around needs to address the redheaded friend’s changes, to determine if she wants to stay that way, to go back to normal, or to pick up the ability to swap between boy and girl at will. It isn’t fair to him/her and the friends/family involved to just leave things as they are while ‘punishing’ Jean… >.>
@TPL, I didn’t say anything about how it might play out or the results or implications for anyone. I just gave some examples how Deus Ex Machina is not needed. Nothing more, nothing less.

Looking at this week cartoon, the bright side is, when you take Jeanie out for a meal, you can now order off the kids menu.
Sent her to the kiddie pool eh?
Oh, I believe she just shrunk in the wash.
Oh dear!
It looks like the poor frog has croaked 🙂
So Jeanie “enjoyed” her kiss with a “dead frog”? Sorry I’m half awake but I think I got the reference.
I think the frog is just having a swim in the pool.
Nope. Frogs don’t do well in a chlorinated pool environment and if it’s a typical school pool it’s more chlorine than water. Surprised Jean’s chlothes didn’t come out almost pure while from bleaching… 😀
Doing the backstroke.
…what did happen to him/her? Her clothes have shrunk, her hair has grown… seemingly between panels.

Huh, modified the two best friends further…
It’s like the redhead recieved what Jean lost… if Jean went from 13 or 14 to like six, red went from 16 to like 21. But I don’t understand how Jean is ever going to be able to resolve this situation. Which is okay, I guess, it will be a surprise –
Actually, Jean just THINKS that Red grew because she is so much smaller. from HER perspective, everything just got bigger.
no, her hair is longer and they are both obviously taller.
Her shirt and pants got smaller, too, either as a result of growing or they had some more help.
TGhey’re girl clothes, now.
And she’s got more frontage, too.
Are the two nurds holding hands?
Quick, someone give her a mushroom so she can return to normal!
first the lipstick now clothes…

Seems like this situation has gone beyond Jean’s control. Not matter what she tries, the doppelganger has the upper hand.
rofl Looks like magic is really going crazy now. XD
I wonder who’ll be fixing up all of this mess?

Chlorine. Very bad for froggies.

Hm… I don’t think anything short of deux-ex machina can possibly resolve this one. She’s essentially up against a god.
