Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
When I saw the new reclining Jeanie in the title it reminded me of the old speculation about who would win in a fight, Jeanie from “I Dream of Jeanie” or Samantha from “Bewitched.”
Congratulations Jean! It looks like you succeeded in getting Melvin a date! Your work is done here! You can proudly go back to being Neal’s genie. He might even like the facy that you can no longer cast spells. It is a win, win situation. There is still the little problem about the red head but you cannot make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. Am I right?
Well, since you asked earlier but the comments were closed, I’ll post it here. You asked what could be done to improve the strip… here are my thoughts.
I would like to see plots. You know, story ideas that are introduced, developed and then resolved. It doesn’t have to be sitcom style, where the plot begins and ends in a week, but resolutions would be nice to see instead of plots that are introduced and then just taper off and are lost as another one starts in its place.
Character development could be introduced. Gene apparently completely wanted this transformation, as does just about any other character that has something odd happen to them. no one freaks out, no one laments what has happened to them- hell, they never even seem to try to change their fate, save for Neil making his way home from the strip clubs. Perhaps some characters could actually react to changed that occur, maybe even seek solutions?
Were Neil and Gene friends? Yes, Gene was a misogynistic knucklehead and it is darn good for Neil he didn’t get transformed, but Neil doesn’t seem that concerned that Gene’s gone.
When you started out it looked like you were setting things up as a sort of warped mirror to the old sitcom crossed with maybe some Office Space. Now we’ve got two concurrent plots going nowhere and the flavor of hearkening back to the old sitcom is really pretty much gone at this point, save for the title. Perhaps bringing the strip back to its roots could make it easier to keep on the rails.
I know, I know… I’m a mouthy and critical broad and if I have so many issues with the strip why do i keep reading it? Because it is out there, it is free to read and it made me laugh a few times and I keep hoping that it might return to the formula that it started with and make more laughs. That’s why I have said all of this here today- because you asked for the input and I do have some points to offer.
I hope I’ve managed to inform and offer perspective without offending. Thanks for your time and your strip, and I’ll be watching to see what the future brings…
I think you are being a bit overly critical. The plots are going to develop slowly due to the nature of 1 a week updates (and some times less). So, patience is called for in letting the plots develop.
Gene/Jeanie doesn’t seem to be totally OK with his transformation, and would change himself back if he could, but he’s also an opportunist who was getting off on the power of magic she has.
Melvin’s friend certainly seems to want to be changed back, and is hiding the fact she’s changed by wearing baggy clothes, etc. It’s just going to take a while since Jeanie is currently magic impaired.
Evil Jeanie can see and hear ghost Jeanie by the looks of it. Didn’t seem happy at hearing ghost Jeanie trying magic, until it failed.
You notice she hasn’t said a word to anyone else yet?. Just using body language…^_^
I suspect she has spoken given Melvins statement “Jeanie said she’ll go with us”
So, a double date then?
It seems so. All nerds will get a date.
Jeanie will have to poof up a nice prom dress for the red head 🙂
Doesn’t she get thrown out of the Jeannie union for dressing like a witch?

I do like the new title image.
Looks like Ams making a guest appearance on Jean
As well…=^_^=
Mmm, so whoever’s in her body is aware of her…
I figure the one in the body is either Guano or the cat genie punishing her for running off and trying to cast magic on people XD
I think the body is on autopilot. Spirit Jeanie will need the cat genie’s help to get back into it. Hope that happens *after* the dance.
I find the hilarity to be most impressive…
Keep up the great work. XD Hope we get to see Araceli again. XD

Of course, I like the long game . . .
I got it… jeanie tried to cast a spell on a woman to force her to want to go out with melvin. The spell rebounded on her as ironic punishment.
