A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
I wonder if Neil managed to stamp his timecard before he was pulled away. It looks like no . . . but he has a genie who should be able to fix it, if he thinks to wish for it to be fixed.
I like the new Jean/Jeannie in repose in the title bar.
Since Araceli just spent a hundred years in a bottle, she’s going to demand to know why Neil is keeping a bunch of people in a box. There will be consequences!
Neil appears to be employed in a professional capacity–wears a tie, works on engineering stuff, etc. Such persons do not “stamp-in” (usual phrase is clock in, but might be a Canadian idiom), as they are considered exempt from wage/hour regulations. They do have to fill out a time sheet. Most govt. contractor personnel (Neil does stuff for NASA) of this sort have flexible hours and don’t have to be at the office at a particular time of day, except for specific meetings and appointments.
Oh, that’s easy to explain. Neil’s boss is a tight wad and wants to make sure he keeps track of when his employees gets to work so they can put in the proper amount of time…
That, and it’s the only way I can think of Neil, ALMOST checking into work. (Logging in, to a computer would have been a less effective sight gag.)
As for the term, I’ve never had a job where I’ve had to clock-in… so when I was making the comic, I had a hard time trying to remember what the right term was.
I’ve heard “clock-in” and “punch-in” for people who have to use the old timecard/clock systems. I just figured “stamp-in” was some localized version of that expression. Some areas of the country or different industries develop their own phrases for things like that.
I have worked for numerous companies that are audited by DCAA. None required a time clock, but your time sheet better be current or you could spend hours explaining why not and being sent to re-education camp. But if anyone in this environment required punching in (another idiom), the place would empty out so fast that it would make 4:30 on Xmas eve look busy!
I decided to change up the header image every so often for events/holidays and stories where Jeanie’s appearance change.
Not sure I’ll keep it up, but I already have Easter’s image made….
Considering how much time genies spend in their various containers, there should be a World Wide Genie Web network available in every bottle keeping them all up to date with the Real World. Maybe Neil and his buddy will be the ones to bring the computer revolution to the Realm, like those two fellows in the basement with the fruit computer…
Well I think we can all agree that he was asking for it when he said ”I just need to stamp-in”

Giving his track record in making useful wishes, I’m going to predict that he won’t wish for his timecard to be stamped.
notice that the “poof” is pink maybe Jeanie decided to have a chat with neil??
Pink? My bad.
Doesn’t Neil need a red head genie too?
Oh this will be good. I wonder if he will end up poofed to an island 🙂

Something is wrong with the phrase ‘Gone in a blue poof!’
Just sayin’….
The Auld Grump

Hey, wasn;t that BLUE smoke PINK yesterday
Thanks for mentioning that. I thought I might be losing it.
There should be different arrival and departure sounds.
And… a sound for failed or disallowed wishes.
Departure is *POOF!*
Arrival is *!FOOP*
WTF? Jeanie at the top of the page is wearing her “take Melvin to school” clothes?

So Neil is cutting it “kind of close” when he is clocking in at 12:54 PM? That’s a LONG morning with a new genie…
I wish I didn’t have to get to work until 1 PM! (5 AM came very early today.)
