Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
why? Someone breaking Jean out of bitch-mode would change the tenor of the story I suppose, but there’s no reason it should even pause the greater story or stop the supposed exploration of “dude becomes Genie girl”.
This is something I’ve longed to see. I even wrote a rather clumsy fanfic, “Neil’s Discipline” in attempt to show one way that might come to pass.
Let me know if it’s worth posting in “JB Fan Fics”, over there on the left.

but that costume is not topless (unless they changed the image). Its a small, strapless top, but its visible behind her arms.
Unless you are saying she is upset because she “poofed” up her costume after getting the part, and has now been told the costume was SUPPOSED to be topless.
Yes, how dare Neil not apologize for the ghost using his body to rail the ghost in yours while he was completely unaware of what was happening, all while putting up with your crap this whole time.
Well, seeing as Jean isn’t the most self-aware person in the world and has consistently demonstrated the emotional maturity of a child, is it any surprise that she can’t even confront, let alone work through, her feeling? Besides, Jean obviously presumes that Neil was aware of what was happening just as she was, miscommunication being the soul of comedy.
As far as several genies in this comic had demonstrated at this point, they don’t “grow up” very quickly or mature quite well. A lot of people don’t learn from their actions unless they’re forced to deal with their problems or see the consequences done wrong on what/who they care about at the time. Jean is definitely a slow learner.
Well, this is unexpected! Four possibilities I can think of offhand.
1. This has something to do with Jeanie using too much energy creating blanks, causing the fade away and we’ll get some scene change where she has to fix thigns (this happened too fast though?)
2. This has something to do with Rouyaa as the former owner of the bottle?
3. This has something to do with the shuttle and being spotted from space, and the bottle (and Jeanie) being whisked away to provide genie deniability?
4. This has something to do with Jeanie being punished for threatening her master?
8. Haji has discovered Rouyaa’s memories are gone, so he’s going to interrogate Jeanie for the same reason Kazom used Jeanie to review Rouyaa’s memories.
Maybe someone in Haji’s palace noticed that there are currently two versions of his old concubine Rouyaa, the Blue Djinn’s daughter, wandering around and wants to have a long discussion with the person who has the Blue Djinn’s power and lives in Rouyaa’s old bottle? If only it hadn’t happened just as Natalie and Roger are taking a fateful trip that’s starting from a tropic port!
Now it looks like Neil is stuck as Nat once again to live a life with no way back as an adult, as opposed to the previous story as a teenager. She will spend the weekend fending off Rodge, and possibly other men, to return home to a missing genie, and no one who can reverse the change.
I’m hoping Jeanie and her totem disappeared because Neil wished for Jeanie to be on the boat with herself and Roger.
I’m fearing that Cosmic Justice has decreed that Jeanie must be on Jean’s pleasure island for as long as Neil is on the boat.
Rather an ugly thought, but a thought, yes.
The worst thing about pleasure island was that Jean wished to feel as if the girls found sex with him to be the peak of pleasure–though they all clearly thought otherwise. He couldn’t make them love him, but he could make them act as if they did. ~~shudder~~
Jeanie’s feelings and actions towards Neil must be judged against Jean’s treatment of his genies.
When you say ‘girls’ I assume you’re referring to the fanfiction rather that canon because there’s no evidence Jean abused anyone except geniefied Neil. And yes, it was quite clear Neil did not enjoy being Jean’s sex slave despite the “EEEEEEE… I’ll be right there!” outburst.
Jeanie’s treatment of Neil is a more subdued version of Jean’s hedonistic and narcissistic behavior when he had total control of a genie. The underlying character flaw remains the same.
I meant “girls” as in Jeanie and Natalie, but you’re right, Jean never had sex with Jeanie. But he sure wanted her to, and she poofed away just in the nick of time. ?comic=jeanie-bottle-688.
Note in this strip that when Jean calls for sexy time, both girls squeal and say “I’ll be right there!”, but Jeanie immediately asks why she said that. “Because,” explains Natalie, “On this island, he gets what he wants, and he wants a lot!”
I understand, and yeah, Jeanie was briefly under the spell’s power. Jeanie is lucky she could poof away because Jean possessed the bottle and technically it was the same bottle that controlled geniefied Neil.
Jeanie should’ve turned Alt. Timeline Jean into a statue rather than threatening to turn him into a sloth. Then she should’ve erased his memories back to just before they entered that hotel room and replaced them with her memories of the last five to seven years, shunk him down to action figure size, and taken him home with her. That way male Jean could “return from the middle east” and resume his normal life (After being un-statued and re-sized). Of course Jeanie would’ve had to first accept that she’s never going to be male and/or human ever again (not likely!).
Too much work for Jeanie. Even if it was just the things you listed, and she didn’t have to somehow keep his job at the magazine, or have him meet and romance his several girl-friends.
nothing is impossible in this comic, but just “statuefying” her younger self should break the timelines, and leave her adrift as part of the cosmic rubble.
The vanishing bottle. Could it be that it is time for our girl to perform her concubine duties for the Great Haji. After all the 21st concubine position is open now that Rouyaa is mortal.
Confusing question-now that Jeanie is the Blue Dijn, does that make her Rouyaa’s father?
I doubt Haji would claim Jeanie as a concubine when she’s already mated to Guano.
The Blue Djinn is Rouyaa’s father. He made a snide remark that because he was occupying Jeanie’s body, he was also her daughter. Jeanie is Rouyaa’s daughter due to the fact that it was Rouyaa’s bottle that transformed Jean into Jeanie.
Sometimes you need a nice long break and alone time to help vent out your frustrations happens to us all. Also where did the Lamp disappear to?
It got beamed up to Space Ball City.
And why does Jeannie appear to have a large knife in her hand in panel 1?
That’ll be the tablet she was reading before Neil and Rodge came back.
Looks like Jeannie is Tweeting in her sleep. Or is it now “X-ing”?
It’s “posting”. The most generic possible name they could have chosen.
I wonder if they will try to trademark it and stop other people from using “posting”
I think that is the alarm clock.
Birds chirping the next morning.
Xcreting? 🙂
Like “X-Creating”.
“Xitting”
the X is often pronounced with a “sh” sound.
Could it be Jeanie has pushed her master away and now the lamp seeks a new one?
It would be nice if something would teach Jeannie to respect her master. However, I suspect it would be end of this comics.

So… did somebody break in and steal Jeanie’s bottle?
It did a slow fade between panels 4 and 6.
I wonder what the darkened panels during the vanishing could possibly mean.
Probably just the passing of the night with the “Tweet tweet” in the last panel signifying morning.
Is that a turkey costume in the header?
It is! Jeanie doesn’t seem super thrilled to be wearing it, though.
She should be thrilled. Those tails, like a peacock’s, are male costume. The females are rather drab.
But, nothing good ever happens when you’re wearing a turkey costume.
True–I think even the Presidential Pardon was skipped this year.
And let’s not even think about the stuffing.
Jeannie has undoubtedly been cast in a Las Vegas show, and is pissed to have just discovered that the costume is topless.
Why hasn’t anyone created a gallery of past header images?
CD wants the header images to remain a special, limited-time treat for people who pay attention.
but that costume is not topless (unless they changed the image). Its a small, strapless top, but its visible behind her arms.
Unless you are saying she is upset because she “poofed” up her costume after getting the part, and has now been told the costume was SUPPOSED to be topless.
Exactly the latter.

When you have a potential lifespan exceeding three thousand years, a century or two of adolescent behavior becomes believable.

5. Jeannie hasn’t paid the rent on her bottle, and it’s been repossessed by the genie collection agency.
6. All the above, with a hint of Haji being UBER mad.
7. Guano’s mom wants to meet her daughter in law. And keep her pesky mortal master away from her.
8. Haji has discovered Rouyaa’s memories are gone, so he’s going to interrogate Jeanie for the same reason Kazom used Jeanie to review Rouyaa’s memories.

What about Araceli? Can she reverse Jeanie’s spell?
Nope. According to Kazom, only the genie who cast a spell can undo it. Kind of the genie version of a copyright.
Is it a good idea to nap in the bottle? One cork, and you’re stuck there.
She doesn’t really have a choice—if the bottle is uncorked, then she automatically returns to it whenever she falls asleep.
Now, how long will Neil be stuck as Natalie this time?
I guess we’ll see!
I’m hoping Jeanie and her totem disappeared because Neil wished for Jeanie to be on the boat with herself and Roger.
I’m fearing that Cosmic Justice has decreed that Jeanie must be on Jean’s pleasure island for as long as Neil is on the boat.
Jeanie and Nell, trapped together in a hot tub with Jean having sexy time? That’s a thought.
Rather an ugly thought, but a thought, yes.

Jeanie isn’t the Blue Djinn, she just has the power Blue stole from those half dozen or so other genies.
Oooh,foreboding
Oops.
