Time travel sickness from being here to long? Or out of chess boredom. Also, this guy forgot his name skipped out on prom to play 8 games of chess really.
Danny. And yeah, he’s that much of a cocky dork, it seems.
Danny also sold the farm when come to Zoey too. Because, Zoey has been with Teen Neil all this time that Danny been playing chase with Natalie.
So Jeanie may have to come back and still clean up the time line even now.
I like that you said “playing chase with Natalie”, because even if that was an unintentional typo, it actually kinda works. He’s clearing “chasing Natalie”, lol.
Seems like they inadvertently swapped dates in a sense, except in Natalie’s case, she did subtly got his past self and his old high school crush to meet up by the punch bowl. Keeping the third wheel aside from them at her expense might’ve been Natalie’s aim for this prom trip.
If they are on their ninth game, then it’s probably been more than two hours. I hope we get to find out how Neil and Zoey’s evening went.
It could be that Danny is THAT bad at chess – the games weren’t very long
Danny can still be a very good chase player even now, but, Natalie is a slightly better chase player than Danny and Danny doesn’t want to admit it, even if it not by much, it enough that she has won six out of eight chase games with him. Natalie didn’t completely blow him out of the water, because, he still won two of those eight games.
So the implication is not that Jeannie felt sick about having sex with Jean but — about messing up the time stream? Does Owen Wilson have somethng to do with this? 🙂
I think feeling sick signifies something being wrong in the timeline.
Agreed.
That’s what the evidence seems to support. Jeanie got really sick when she rejected Jean and ran away the first time, resulting in a major change in history. She was less ill when turning him down the second time meaning a less severe change in history occurred, whatever that may be. We now have Natalie getting sick, meaning that something happens with Daring Danny X (Paw Patrol reference) with Natalie apparently crushing him at chess.
Or, possibly, something will NOT happen. Like, maybe the time is running out for him to prevent Neil and Zoey doing something which didn’t happened …
Originally Jeanie got sick because Jeans timeline was messed up, but Neils went as per normal.
Now Natalie is getting sick so perhaps this time it will be Neals timeline that is messed up.
Or because, you know, this all started when they went back in time before to get food because everything was on lockdown due to covid, and Natalie specifically worried about bringing the illness back…
If Natalie were bringing the virus back in time, then it would have been included in the first altered timeline. Natalie’s actions only diverge from that timeline starting from the instant that Jeanie shows up in the final panel of this page.
Natalie became ill 2 panels before Jeanie arrived.
Now, I am wondering what Jeanie will do to Danny that somehow messes up the timeline. She is going to do something, the question is what.
Is he trying for best of 13?! He just does not know when to concede.
I know, right??
Of course not. He’s already conceited, and that sounds like “conceded” already and there isn’t room for both words to sound the same in his head. Or something.
I think what we are hearing here, is Danny pride speaking out, he doesn’t want to admit that he has been bested by a girl no less, it has a tendency to deflate of injure the male ego high school boy, there ego are rather fragile and are easily bruised or hurt.
@larry
We know so little of Danny to make that judgement. He likes chess, he likes Natallie and he likes playing chess with Natallie. Each game he plays with her is no doubt improving his own skills. He’s not getting frustrated from the look of things, so he seems to have control even when losing. I rather admire that trait. Finding superior opponents at each league might be difficult in chess.
Maybe he’s just waiting for whatever he used to spiked her drink to kick in.
I don’t think Natalie has been drinking anything, there are no drink glasses on the table.
They’re going to time travel again to the 70’s when Jean bottle original genie Ms. Eden had her powers don’t forget that.
wonder if she sick with that time of month
Something tells me that Jeanie is gonna have to actually bone her past self to keep the flow of time correctly.
Something is telling me that Danny is going to mouth off to Jeanie and end up wearing an evening gown with some rather large assets up top.
#654: “No using genie magic to turn anyone into anything.”
Looks like this jerk is up to something…else.
Danny has a bit of magic or something in him i believe. The question is why didn’t older natalie warn jean about this before poofing back to the past?
Either that or he just mouthing off, when guy like him get put down like this, they still have there mouth to shoot off. He is basically all bark and no bit. He rejecting the obvious, that he lost to a girl and he doesn’t like it.
Obviously we can’t tell exactly what all the chess pieces are, but it looks like Danny is down to two pawns and his king while Neil also still has his queen in play. Any sane person would be accepting their defeat at that point.
They don’t quit or lose a match, they choose to resign a game when they can’t win or it obvious that they will lose the game. Saying that you are resigning a game is a polite way of saying that you lost the game, but, without saying that you lost that game. That why you never see two master chase player losing to each other, because, they will resign before they officially lose that game.
He can’t be that badly behind, and still saying “mate in 5”
Looks like Jeanie changed her shoes. In 670 they are blue to match her dress and in this one they look like white heels. So small a change but will that affect the timey line?
Back on page 660 they were white.
#657 is another clear view of them.
I blame the artist.
Queen’s knight takes Black King Check and Mate.
Oh dear, this is either really good or really bad.
It’s nice, now and again, to have a wild ass guess confirmed. /comic/jeanie-bottle-677#comment-42585
Neil, be generous. Beating Danny to gray paste gains you nothing, and it would cost nothing to give this geek a win, just before you disappear. You really want to dazzle him? Give him a victory smooch–Yeah, yeah, I know. But just wait until Jeanie tells you that Natalie grew up to be a stripper.
Dancing Librarian, to be precise.
Evelyn: Look, I… I may not be an explorer or an adventurer, or a treasure-seeker or a gunfighter, Mr. O’Connell, but I am proud of what I am.
Rick: And what is that?
Evelyn: I… am a librarian.
To be sure, a somewhat…tipsy librarian, who even sober is quite capable of accidentally tipping over every single shelf in the joint, but hey.
Knows when to say “no”, as well.
One of my very favorite librarians ever!
I may have to watch that again, instead of doing some chore or another.
Is that anything like the “Dancing Troll?”
@gary: Trolls who dance to music with rocks in? Sure.
This one dances in a very short mini.
@gary: “short mini” OK, I’m lost. Who?
Just search The Dancing Troll. Cute girl dancing to “Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes.” No way I could ever be that limber.
What do you call a girl troll? A trollop.
(Robert Lynn Asprin’s Myth Adventures series.)
Original first volume cover by Kelly Freas – the trollop is Kelly’s wife Polly
Damn – i miss Kelly. And Karl Wagner. And Andy Offutt…
What if time magic has a time limit so genies can’t stay in the past for too long and the sickness is the warning, they are going to be return to their time with or without anyone who came with them.
Jean spiked the fuck out of that punch – I hope past Neil and Zoey didn’t get into it…
Looks like someone’s going to take Alt Natalie’s place as a “librarian”.
He’s not worth it. He’s a teenager competing against an adult, likely in one of the few areas of his life he has any competence or confidence in. Jeanie just needs to get Natalie out of there while doing as little damage as possible.
Hmm. Back in #670, Jeanie gets sick right when she shoots down Jean. That changed Jean’s life in a big way.
Now, Natalie shoots down Danny, though not quite so hard, and gets a bit queasy. How would beating Danny change Neil’s life?
Maybe she doesn’t have go so far as to give Danny a victory kiss after letting him win–but being outright cruel is apparently not a good thing to do.
Natalie changed two things and not just one thing and they are:
1. She shoot down Danny as being the best Chase player.
2. She also interrupts Danny playing spoiler between Zoey and Neil which probably happened in the other time line and Danny may or may not have ended up marrying Zoey, but, now Zoey may end up being Neil girlfriend and/or wife now.
The first event of Natalie beating Danny in chase is a relatively minor offense of change to the time line, but, the second event would cause a major shift in the time line if it happens and we will either have to fix it or re a line the time line to allow for these changes in it.
My thinking is that the time-sickness sets in right when the change occurs. That means that the Danny/Zoey affar is not that critical–but something that just did happen, like Jeanie winning the match, is more significant that it seems.
You mean Natalie winning the match… or is it because Jeanie just arrived and is about to interrupt Natalie and Danny having a 10th match, which may have been a significant event.
Or… or… getting back to Neil and Zoey. Jeanie interrupts the ongoing chess tournament and Danny stalks off in a huff and interrupts Neil and Zoey as they’re about to make progress in their relationship (non-intimate, of course… they are in the school, after all). Maybe Neil has been living an alternate timeline throughout the comic and being with Zoey is what was supposed to happen, and the time hop is what screwed the whole thing up in the first place… and… and…
Oh, the countless possibilities.
That point, Mike, that what I have been trying to say all this time, nothing set in stone now and everything up in the air and it can land in just about any configuration now of different time lines possibilities. While just about everyone else was jelling that we have a stable time here including the Author and the prof reader, I was saying it an unstable time line now and that it could and probably will go all over the place and where lands nobody knows.
@mike: I meant Natalie. [Stupid fingers, type what tell you or it’s the car door for you again!]But Jeanie’s appearance is indeed suggestive.
@50srefugee: Looking back at the sequence of events on this page, Natalie became ill in panel 2, just after Danny gloats that he’s going to win in 5 moves even though the number of pieces visible on the board makes his position look bleak. This is the 9th match, which may be a significant number somehow. Natalie’s illness occurs 2 panels before Jeanie appears, so it’s unlikely that her arrival is the cause. There is something about this particular game and Danny’s attitude that is significant to the timeline.
@mike: the question is, why would anything that Natalie did prior to Jeanie showing up here be different here as compared to the Jesnie-flees-in-disgust timeline? Nothing that Jeanie has done in between poofing back for the second try and poofing in to meet Natalie should have any effect on what Natalie was doing before Jeanie arrived in the room.
@ijuinkun: That’s the problem, we just don’t know, but whatever it was happened before Jeanie arrived in the room.
In #665, 1st panel, I got the impression that Natalie (as younger Neil in the original timeline) could almost always beat Danny in chess. My guess is Neil and Natalie (#663-665) is simply remembering all the times she (as he) beat him during Chess Club games. Given Natalie has had more practice since high school, her confidence is understandable.
Danny (a) is naturally cocky and (b) conveniently ignores any facts that diminish him or his perceived status, like losses in chess. I don’t think her queasiness is a result of her shooting Danny down. I think it is something else and you may be right that the queasiness occurs at a significant change from past events.
In #670, I thought Jeanie’s “I think I’m going to be sick” was a result of (a) the thought of intimate relations (having once been male) and/or (b) the thought of intimate relations with her younger self. It seemed to me at the first reading of #670 that she wasn’t actually ill, and the statement was much like I’ve heard lots of people say when faced with something perceived as grossly unpleasant, like changing a baby’s diaper full of poop.
However, the coincidentally similar reaction with Natalie becoming queasy for no obviously external reason (like beating Danny in chess) leads me to think that a significant change of historical events is the cause of the nausea.
This change could be, as was suggested, that Neil and Zoey hit it off where they didn’t before. It is also possible that after high school, Neil and Zoey went to different colleges and drifted apart or broke up for some other reason. Neil and Jean/Jeanie could still have ended up where they were before the time travel, but with a new set of memories regarding Zoey.
why is Natalie green under the eyes?
Probably dur to being green around the gills, so to speak—it represents her current nausea.
OMG @Robert.

This is a Checovs Gun, isn’t it! It has to be.
What’s the “gun”, exactly?
TenTonTunic is probably referring to Jeanie’s nausea, but I wouldn’t consider page 670 of this story line as being act one. Act one would have been from page 615 thru 626. I’d say we’re easily into the following week’s episode by now, maybe two weeks.
can’t be, we haven’t found any nuclear wessels yet.
That’s a Star Trek IV reference….
Some people.
