Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
I’m more puzzled by what reason that Jean wanted to mess around with Neil’s brain like this? Maybe to experiment how to use “her” magic to bend around the No-Will Controlling Law? Don’t see why Jean needed to womanize Neil into Natalie unless to keep Neil’s hands off of Jean for it.
Okay, the fun is over 🙁 but if Jean did this for her own free will (no blue eyes and visible empathy in the end here)… why the hell did she decide to toy with our… a mean Neil feelings all of the sudden?
I just had a crazy, and I mean CRAZY theory with next to not fundament but because the waiting for a couple of weeks to had answers is kind of painful I will just share it to pass some time:
This whole arc is name ” I Dream of an Escape” and I think that just as Arceli predicted, Jean careless use of magic attracted the Blue Djinn, but instead of killing Jean he or she made a deal with her, those were the dialogue bubbles on her bottle at the beginning of the arc, the deal included share bodies with the end of get into Haji´s palace and help the Blue Djinn create a new genie stealing one Hubun Hajids, because most likely the Blue Djinn is in need of a new body, and because the creation of a new Genie needs and Bonding of love, Jean who does not believe in love mess with Neil brain to make him her partner in the union and then turn him into Natalie to make it more appealing to her, all in exchange of her freedom of all this Genie mess once this is ove, from there comes the name of the arc, the Blue Djinn may had some level of control over her actions and maybe she will stop before is to late (and in the process save little poor Jehane), but in the end all of this is complicate complot between Jean and the Blue Djinn.
I know this is pure madness but is what I got.
Well that’s not a very nice thing to say. Also, you don’t actually have to know what any of those do. The effect that Jeanie’s futzing with them had on Natalie is already pretty clear.
I am being sarcastic as some of the conversation I have had with friends, every other word seems to be the four letter word, as a dyslectic, I have been pushing myself over the years to improve my communication skills.
On the lighter side, there is a group of psychiatrist going to make a career out getting Neil/ Natalie mind straighten out, along with publishing a small library.
Ha! Called it! Jeanie didn’t mess with Neil’s free will, she just messed with his brain chemistry, and then let nature take its course.
This clears up some uncertainties about what exactly the limits are of Jeannie’s magic. She can’t control people’s behavior directly, but she can do so INdirectly, nudging them in one way or another. Now, the only question is; why in the hell would she do such a thing? My guess is that either she is under the control of the Blue Djinn, or, in fact, IS the Blue Djinn in disguise.
I already post a long and crazy theory, and even thought in retrospective I already find some holes in it, putting together all the clues in the arc I am sure the blue Djinn is involve, I don’t think he has complete control over Jean, but is in the end he is behind all of this, and even thought I can only specule the reasons, I am almost sure all of this had the end of Nathalie helping either Jean or the Blue Djinn doing the union ritual with the steal Habun Hajid, Jean was under Blue Djinn control in presence of the Habun Hajid (she had blue eyes in the room that time) and she just confessed that she mess with Neil body and mind to make him more appealing.
I have been following articles about persons that have done rash things they would never do in the real world while on Psychotropic Drugs. I am comparing this to what is going through Neil head while running on some heavy duty natural drugs. So Luke, don’t cave into the dark side. (Star-Wars)
Yeah – Jeannie’s done mean things before, but only when she was pissed, for one reason or another. This is the first time she’s been totally callous towards Neil.
It is out of character for Jean to have altered Neil for the reason she stated. I don’t think it is out of character for Jean to lie about why she transformed Neil, though. I still think the transformation was to protect Neil from the djinn and she is lying now so that Neil/Natalie won’t worry about the danger. Neil already knows Jean is a jetk, after all.
Reminder, one of those fishers wanted Jean as a slave wife and the other wanted to send her to the botton of the ocean… now Agent Anderson and Red are better examples
Not really. Anderson and Red weren’t altered mentally. Anderson is even still in a relationship with her wife apparently, she didn’t suddenly turn into a thot and start sleeping around with guys. And that’s the point, that’s how it’s different.
No, Jean has been like Eric Cartman the whole time. Remember when Eric Cartman had Scott Tenorman eat his parents? Jean would do that, if it met some purpose to his/her/its personal utility. Jean is allergic to responsibility, absolutely MUST pass on the blame for all mistakes to someone else, and doesn’t care a bit about anyone but Jean. Add magic powers to that mix and it’s a wonder Jean hasn’t destroyed the world yet.
I kind of feel bad for Rodge, he was so close this time, I would say that Neil dogde the bullet, but whatever is going on here with Jeanie may be worst than Nathalie’s originals plans for the night.
Seriously Jean(nie) is a Jackass, but said jackassery always takes a specific form. It’s the result of not thinking through and acting on impulse. Can Jean(nie) be petty? Yes. But something that requires this much plannning? No. It takes to much time and effort to put that type of thought into a vendetta. EVERY Vendetta Jean(nie) as enactted so far as been flying by the seat of his/her pants BECAUSE he/she is reacting on impulse.
This moment strikes me as out of character for Jean(nie) and a sign that something is up/wrong with her.
“It’s the result of…acting on impulse.” Yup, I and others have said before, many times, that Jeanie can’t see the end of her own nose. No real malice in her, she just doesn’t think. For her, this was just a practical joke
Several people have already mentioned that this is over the top even for Jeannie. Jeannie can be a real Jackass and pull some really raunchy stuff, but, this is completely out side the person that we come both love and hate. There is also no reason for her pull this crap either and nor does it conform to the way Jeannie thinks or acted in the past. The mind of Jeannie doesn’t operate like this.
I have written stories too. Your character develop there own characteristic and attribute both pro and con. When you take writer liberties with your character and make do things they would do, everybody know it.
I don’t know who this Genie is. She may look like Jeannie, but, she not acting like our Jeannie.
Yeah, she’s acting more like a supervillain and less like the jerk we tolerate. Something’s definitely up here, and I’m hoping that it will soon be the jig.
“It’s the result of…acting on impulse.” Yup, I and others have said before, many times, that Jeanie can’t see the end of her own nose. No real malice in her, she just doesn’t think. For her, this was just a practical joke.
No 50srefugee, this wasn’t a practical joke on Jeannie part. Jeannie doesn’t think this way and is completely out of character for her and the way she behaves. Something else is going on here or Jeannie has turned really dark or she is under some bodies else s control. This isn’t Jeannie operating on her own doing this. Jeannie is vain, conceded, self centered, she fly off the handle and lashes out at people and it has terrible consequences and such, But, she not vicious or have malicious thought like this. This is the first time we seen her act like in a cold calculating way and do to a supposed best friend Neil. This doesn’t work for me and I don’t buy it.
So, my reading of this is that Jeanie was just messing with Neil because Jeanie is a jerk and was playing around with his friend’s brain chemistry to see what would happen. She then got pulled away unexpectedly. She wasn’t *planning* to leave Natalie/Neil in the lurch, other events just got in the way. Now he’s trying to fix it because he’s not *that* much of a jerk (although still a pretty big one).
Oh, and is it just me, or is Neil the only one who seems to get any “action?”
@Robert: I got the feeling he was creeped out by Natalie being so forward with him. He’ll probably be relieved when Neal’s back. I mean, even his “I’ll sleep with you to save you from the jerkwad genie” comment in I Dream of Green Eyes seemed more like a bad joke than a serious suggestion.
ranck, I think you’ve got it pretty straight. I can onl add that she likely didn’t think her brain chemistry meddling would have any unexpected consequences. It was just a funny joke.
My understanding is that increasing the level of things like serotonin does not necessarily result in any enhanced pattern of behavior. It just makes your brain work more normally. So for instance, it might relieve depression, but it’s not any kind of an aphrodisiac. It also seems to be connected to memory & reasoning in some way, but it’s not known how.
So Natalie probably should have been less bummed out, but not inclined to be amorous.
As a further explanation, Neurotransmitters are kinda like 1’s and 0’s in a computer, they allow neurons to tell the next neuron ‘yes’ or ‘no’, so what a neurotransmitter does is entirely dependent on what neurons are using it, and increasing the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain just means that there is plenty of that neurotransmitter available for the neurons to communicate with.
In essence: Adding dopamine to the brain will allow more of a dopamine deficient neurons signals to go through, but it wont make a healthy neuron send more signals.
I think It’ll also cause physical pain, depression, massive amounts of anxiety, cravings and self soothing as well as plenty of tears. It might also cause death.
Oh man, you just reminded me of a weird horror movie called “Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde” with that comment. If you can tolerate crappy movies, it’s worth a watch (and a chuckle).
Actually, I kind of like the story. Had a crazy twist to an old classic horror movie. I saw two version of that Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde movie. The first version, the two of them died like in the original version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. In the second version, the guy playing the Dr. Jekyll part had a girl friend that had to save him. I think it would make a great side story of Neil turning into Natalie when he get close to Rodge and turn back into Neil when he get away from Rodge. Even if Jeannie get made a Neil for turning into Natalie, she was the one that created the problem. Of course she won’t remember that or acknowledge that even though it true.
But, it would make a great story plot line for this series in one of it story arcs.
IT would also make a great love triangle too, with Jeannie chasing Neil and Natalie chasing Rodge.
If CD RUDD want to really go out on the limb with a love triangle, Belle chasing Neil/Jean as Jeannie former male self. She jealous of Neil/Jean going out with her former girlfriend and has desire to be her boyfriend again. But she also jealous of Belle going out with her guy friend, that now more like of boyfriend relationship too.
Either one or both of them together or separately on there, would make good stories with wired and twisted results that would make interesting stories too.
Tea.. coffee.. chocolate .. sleep for 12 hours and maybe some serious anti depressants. Hmm well- I honestly don’t know what to say. It’s not the worst thing Jeannie has done… and maybe it’s worth being reminded happiness can be manufactured …
I wonder.. could the bottle exert influence? There seemed to be that implication when Jehane was suspected of theft.
So, Jeanie found a loophole to the “no overriding free will” rule. The question now is: how long until Lord Guano (or some other high-ranking genie) finds out and decides to punish her for it anyway?
Not really, the rule says a genie can show a mortal a path but the mortal is the one who have to choice to take it, messing with the brain chemistry may give the mortal and incentive for certain actions, but the choice is still theres, just here for example, Jean made Nathalie horny so to speak, but it was Nathalie who choice Rodge instead of Belle or even Jean right now.
I can’t help but notice the Jeanie undid the chemistry changes she did to Natalie, but it appears she left Neil still as Natalie.
Why? We know Jeanie still prefers girls. Is she hoping for a little girl-on-girl action or is she just planning on torturing Neil for a while by leaving him as Natalie to teach Neil sort of what she has been going through as a girl?
Jean is a shoe in for the award this year. You know the Dickhead of the year award. Why is Neil even friends with him anyway????? I know you are going somewhere with this CD but dang Jean could not be less likeable if he tried.
Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
So suddenly receiving genie powers and then not being bound to the whole three wishes deal is going to tempt Jeanie to act like this at some point.
Jeanie never seems to have to face the consequences of her actions (except for the few rare times that Guano gets involved to stop her.) So at this point nothing she does would surprise me, unless of course she tried to kill or erase someone from existence with her powers.
Ok, that’s definitely not a good sign…
I think you broke Natalie, and possibly Neil as well.
You shouldn’t mess with minds Jean, as you don’t know if there will be permanent changes.
That is definitely the prime question at the moment. I have no idea.

That’s a really interesting theory! I have no idea how much, if any of that will turn out to be true.
add that he remembered the things he did
In today’s American do think the younger generation can understand such big words?
Well that’s not a very nice thing to say. Also, you don’t actually have to know what any of those do. The effect that Jeanie’s futzing with them had on Natalie is already pretty clear.
I am being sarcastic as some of the conversation I have had with friends, every other word seems to be the four letter word, as a dyslectic, I have been pushing myself over the years to improve my communication skills.

“think the younger generation can understand such big words?”
They can read the Internet, that’s close enough. (According to a young woman of my acquaintance, who is now a brain surgeon.)
That alright 50srefugee, you can break down into smaller word for her, so she can understand what there saying. No, problem here!
And now we know what Jean was doing at the beginning of the arc. Oi Vey, and here we thought there was a grand conspiracy.
So i wonder what Jeanie’s reaction would be if Natalie and Rodge already had sex before she unpoof’d her brain?
That would be nightmares for the rest of Neil life.
Ha! Called it! Jeanie didn’t mess with Neil’s free will, she just messed with his brain chemistry, and then let nature take its course.

And that theory is wrong, this proves Jean is just a jerk, no blue djinn needed.
Or, far more likely, Jean is just a dick.
OK, granted.
She acts like one because she no longer has one.
@Random22: From what we’ve seen, Jeanie’s bad behavior long pre-dated her unwilling gender swap.
Called it as well. lust not love.
I have been following articles about persons that have done rash things they would never do in the real world while on Psychotropic Drugs. I am comparing this to what is going through Neil head while running on some heavy duty natural drugs. So Luke, don’t cave into the dark side. (Star-Wars)
Panel 1: Jean admits to being a tremendous jackass. “Hey, you’re ugly so I turned you into a girl. And played around with your brain, just ‘cuz.”
Some friend s/he is…
I think its more like “Hey, I don’t find men attractive, so I turned you into a woman.”
Not gonna argue with the second sentence, though.
No wonder the blue djinn took residence in Jean – they’re the same type of a-hole!
Is it just me or does this seem over the top even for Jean(ie)?
It’s not just you.
Yeah – Jeannie’s done mean things before, but only when she was pissed, for one reason or another. This is the first time she’s been totally callous towards Neil.

Some Greek fisher-former-men would beg to differ.
I’m not even slightly surprised that Jean would do such a thing.

Jean should have waited until after Natalie’s with Rodge.
Well we don’t know if there are any permanent side-effects from messing with Natalie’s head.
So she might still want to be with Rodge for all we know…
Several people have already mentioned that this is over the top even for Jeannie. Jeannie can be a real Jackass and pull some really raunchy stuff, but, this is completely out side the person that we come both love and hate. Neil’s next words
“OMG, I did …….. in that theatre!!!!”

Oh, and is it just me, or is Neil the only one who seems to get any “action?”
It seems like “action” is a rather short supply in this comic. I’m sure Rodge will be devastated.
Hey, Robert; can you moderate one of my posts, below? Thanks!

Sure, first you take from him the one thing that makes his life worth living…then you kill any fun she might have without it. Killjoy.
But… but that’s not how neurotransmitters work, AT ALL!
*head explodes*
How so? I legit don’t know, but it seems pretty plausible from what little I do know about brain chemistry.
My understanding is that increasing the level of things like serotonin does not necessarily result in any enhanced pattern of behavior. It just makes your brain work more normally. But, ya know, comics
Jeez……it might have been kinder just to let him stay that way.
You might be right, especially if Neil start doing the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide transformation or should I say Ms Hide transformation Genie Style.
Oh man, you just reminded me of a weird horror movie called “Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde” with that comment. If you can tolerate crappy movies, it’s worth a watch (and a chuckle).

In terms of Genie legal interpretations, it’s probably equivalent to getting Neil high on some rather powerful drug.
What does CD have against trout ? They are one of the most beautiful and tasty fish on the planet! Now carp………
Maybe Jeannie is vegan.
Better not let her get near YouTube.
Give her time. We still have to hear the explanation as to just why she did all this.
At least Jeanie shows concern… well hoping Neil isn’t dead at least.
Jean is a shoe in for the award this year. You know the Dickhead of the year award. Why is Neil even friends with him anyway????? I know you are going somewhere with this CD but dang Jean could not be less likeable if he tried.

Boss Hogg did try to get her to erase the Duke boys. You are right about power and tyrants.
