Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
Jeanie’s going to have to sweeten the pot to make this sale, but I suspect that, oddly enough, Melvin’s not going to be wildly enthusiastic about paying it.
Oh, thank goodness I’m not the only one who thinks it was a spelling error. The alternative – little girls thinking they need to wear more revealing clothing – was rather horrible to contemplate.
That’s not sufficient to confirm it – you’ll notice there are 3 other females in that strip (not counting Jeanie), so Holly could be one of the others there.
I can see a few possibilities here. Jeanie gets both Melvin and Holly to understand that people are people and they can talk to each other, and maybe more without changing who they are. But, that seems a bit too “touchy-feely” for the recently transformed Gene.
Jeanie could arrange for Holly to see Melvin talking and having a good time with the “new girl” making Holly re-evaluate and make her jealous, or at least curious, about Melvin. Probably still a little to subtle for Gene.
Some sort of outright bribe from Jeanie seems a distinct possibility.
I’m looking forward to see where this actually goes . . .
“arrange for Holly to see Melvin talking and having a good time with the “new girl””
Good plan. I like it. What I like better, though, is getting Melvin to ask the girl out himself.
Holly is absolutely correct to reject Melvin, and I say that as a nerd myself. If he doesn’t have balls to ask her out on his own power, he doesn’t deserve her.
Oh, definitely, Melvin needs to step up and ask Holly out himself. I’m just saying that seeing him actually talking to, and apparently having fun with another girl might change her opinion enough to take a chance. After all, he’s been pining for her for *years.* A fact she probably knows and as long as there is no apparent “competition” she can safely ignore him.
Again, I’m not sure Gene/Jeanie is capable of being that subtle, but maybe. After all, he seemed more financially successful than Neil, so she can’t be a complete idiot. I’m just enjoying speculating.
The one thing we know about Jean is that (s)he is pretty self-centered. What happens to other people or how they feel isn’t very important to Jean. E.g., Neil keeps ending up as the entertainment at a strip club. So–ya think the “new girl” is going to have to get used to wearing dresses, because Jean can’t be bothered to remember to fix things? Or that there is going to be some short-cut way to get Melvin and Holly at the dance together, even if neither of them is going to like it very much, if at all–so long as it’s the easy way for Jean? (And, of course, the entertaining way for us, the faithful readers!)
In the TV show, Barbara Eden also played another genie as well as the blonde one; I think I know which one Jean is channeling…

Never, never, never ignore your genie.
u got that right
So, that would be a…”No?”
The word she’s looking for is PEPPY.
Sorry, CD – I probably could have said that better. It should be PEPPY instead of PEEPY.

i think cd ppl look cool and cute
Peepy is a character in Dickens’ _Bleak House_. Not sure how cheerleaders could depict that, but I’d like to see them try…
Why do I get the feeling this is going to end HORRIBLY wrong?
See, when you tell a cheerleader to go out with a nerd, that just spells trouble already.
Has Jeanie even confirmed that this cheerleader is named Holly?
It’s her, I double checked.

This only bodes well…
If you listen closely you will hear the sound of Melvin heart crashing.

Then there’s always a straightforward, no-subtlety love spell or other mind control. That seems as more Gene/Jean’s speed.

I mean, come on! The “new girl” is a transformed boy, and he and his friends (including Melvin) shrugged that off to talk about games!
