Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
If I was Jean, I too would be pissed. However, I get the feeling that she is going to hear and or see something that will get her in more trouble than ever before.
“More trouble than ever before.” Yeah, with Jeanie, that’s a pretty good bet.
And good grief, Genies! All this time dealing with mortals, and you’ve never figured out that it might be a good idea to sit down with a new genie and explain a few things? I hate to defend Our Jeanie, but yeah, I’d be pissed too, an numerous different fronts.
They tried explaining how genies work, Hell even Neil tried. It’s just that Jeanie is too thick headed to realize it. The problem is, with this current arc, NO ONE has hardly told Jeanie anything about the situation nor what is to be expected from her for the time being. The only thing that I know for certain is that she is going to learn the hard way, like always.
Its either that, or she wants to talk to him about leaving the palace….
You better be careful Jean, as your currently trying to wander around in a place far outside your imagination or understanding and that anything can likely happen.
I wonder if any of the other genies have seen Haji lately. Haji’s First Wife seems to be running the show, or running the show for someone else–not necessarily Haji.
Story-wise, of course, Jean is wandering off so she can get into trouble.
Well you’re kinda right… Panel 1 eyes are 0x020202, which is almost pure black. Panel 2, they’re 0x2A2C77, which is a VERY dark blue, but with a lot of red and green, too. Panel 3 is 0x323680, which is about the same on the blue tone, and even heavier on the red & green.
The question is, does it actually mean anything, or is it just an overlooked artistic inconsistency?
Like getting dragged and bossed around by all this Genie Red Tape and to be left in the dark about what’s really going on in this situation? I’d be annoyed too with the leadership as well! Either that or Jean wanted to get the chance to give Haji a piece of “her” mind for “her” recent forceful change of lifestyle.
Something tells me this isn’t really Jeanie, but that Blue Genie we were briefly shown his potential escape before a large, molten rock crushed the genie guard. He’s probably escaped and is trying to seek revenge on Haji under the guise of assuming Jeanie’s form. The palace guards, harem girls, and Haji’s first probably haven’t noticed yet, though there must be some sort of rumors swirling around, and Haji is in a safe, undisclosed location.
We could still have a backward look at it or we could have a re-do of it, because, Haji was busy. Which bring up other possibilities also, like Jeanie shooting her mouth off to Araceli and her thinking that Jeanie want to be a Haji concubine or something.
I was wondering why Robert didn’t correct the spelling of realize, but CD is a British national writing for a global audience so it fits. 🙂 God save the Queen
If we have one Genie that doesn’t know what going on, then having two Genie that don’t know what going on, we will have twice the fun and twice the mayhem when every things come apart. We have Jeanie getting into trouble, because, that Jeanie does. Then we have Araceli misunderstand what Jeanie really wanted and think that she want to be Hiji concubine and get her all hooked up with Hiji before Jeanie know what going on. Then we get to see how this mess get sorted out.

My guess is she wants to talk about reversing her gender change.

“Does she actually want to be part of Hadji’s harem?”
Araceli being the nice naive person she is will probably help Jean get her wish 🙂
Nice yes. Naive yes. Wanting to help jean. Not without doing it so that way she can be with Neil and not Jean.
“so that way she can be with Neil and not Jean.”
You mean such as Jean being stuck in Hadji’s harem and not able to get to “Natalie”
And starting with panel 2, Jean’s eyes went blue again.
I looked at the enlarged version of the comic and I don’t see the blue eyes at this time.
Nice catch!

It obviously has to do with the BLUE Djinn wanting to kill Haji
If Araceli’s guess is actually correct, THAT would be really freaky.
But I doubt it. Something else is eating at Jeannie.

Considering all the Jean-like reactions, I’d say more that she’s possessed/being influenced.
Aww it’s a shame the ritual was done off screen. We see so little of genie culture I was interested on a scene of it.

Looks like Our Heroine (Our Hero?) doesn’t have all the facts.

Yeah, sure… I did that intentionally. Yeah. 🙂

Oh, love that prospect of that happening.
Araceli is so close and yet so far.
This seems to be making of a cornfield meet (a train wreck.)
