Which genie camp are you in?
Jul14
Over the 300+ comics, we’ve met a number of genies.
Some whom you, ‘the readers’, hated, and others you loved.
Over time some of the readers went from love to hate, and hate to love. So I’m curious. If you had to throw your support behind one of the genies, which one would it be?
The poll is on the left hand side of the page, discussion on this post.
Guano’s out. Kazom can take care of himself.
Jeanie is Jean. Until she learns to serve, as a genie, she’s on her own.
That leaves Araceli. Araceli is not an innocent, not by any stretch, but she’s trying her best to be a good genie for her master. She simply doesn’t understand what that entails in the modern age. And that is not her fault.
At this point I’d say Araceli. Jeanie’s/Jean’s shear short sightedness that borders on stupidity sets my teeth on edge.
Still on Jean’s side. although she may be acting like an idiot most of the time, she’s still a jock trapped as a magical servant for what seems like forever. So she gets a free pass from me for the first 1000 years ^.^
I don’t like Araceli. Jean(n)ie may be short-sighted, selfish, and (understandably) fighting her fate, but Araceli’s a manipulative, cunning, and altogether evil individual (her willingness to torture Neil – tower of London, her attempt to have Jeannie out of the picture permanently (swapping bottles knowing the bottle was stuck on the bottom of the ocean), and her abuse of Jeannie (threatening her and locking her in her own bottle with that cork) justify calling her evil).
Kazom is essentially a non-entity going forward and he pretty much did jack-squat when he was around.
And Guano seems to be intentionally written as an unlikable character.
I’m not really “Pro-” Jean(n)ie, I’m more anti-others.
Jean, by default of being the longest-standing djinn shown.
-Jean’s infuriatingly self-serving and myopic, but is fairly entertaining and has been around a while.
-Araceli means well, but is rather annoying.
-Kazom’s okay. He can take care of himself.
-Guano’s an oaf. Do not want.
Honestly, I like most of the Muggles better than the magical characters.
To be honist, I think all the Genies are jerks. Something about getting magical powers must make them that way.
I still like the comic, but I’m not sure which camp to be in.
I want Jean to be Jeanie, but I wouldn’t mind Araceli going through a long process of learning about the 21st Century world from Neil. Neil can have two genies – Jeanie his “official” genie who is only a friend, and Araceli who has a crush on him but might actually love him. They might be oil and water together, but maybe Jeanie and Araceli can come to a compromise that doesn’t involve destruction or banishment in a bottle.
Keeping Guano from finding out the ultimate relationship – there’s a challenge. Especially since Araceli is an “official” genie who still gives her uncle complete respect.
