Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
Honestly, it’d make more sense to go to the future, after the pandemic is over with and everyone has access to a vaccine, this also means no changing the timeline (because people don’t consider the “future” to be part of the timeline, even though it is just as much as the past is)
Based on the arc’s name, I’m guessing they went back in time.
This isn’t the first comic in which Jeanie has done something like this, though I do have a sinking feeling that their going to end up messing with the timeline in the process…
Lets just hope it doesn’t muddle the story up too much.
That part of the story line, muddle thing up and they have to unmuddle thing up. That what the Jeanie Bottle series revolve around and is what make this this series so interesting. To see just how many messes that Jeanie can make and then see how she finally figures out how to clean everything up, more or less, but, at least to acceptable level any.
This comic runs on a sliding timecale. It is largely always “now” in the JB-verse, regardless of how long the comic has been running (thus the COVID masks on the last few pages), or how much time has passed in-comic (which I believe is intended to be no more than “several months” at this point). Much like how in The Simpsons, Homer remembers his childhood as being in vastly different eras depending on when the episode in which he’s doing that remembering was made.
Thus, stating the year they go back to when time traveling would simply not work.
Our time it five or six years or so. But, in the JB-verse, it just over a year, but not anymore than that. You also have the Melvin Chronicle it is also about a year too and there running side by side.
More likely it in Cincinnati, because, that where they grew up at and since Jean was 23 year old. So we are probably looking at about 5 to 7 years in the past in Cincinnati. That would make them 16 or 18 years old should they run into themself from the past.
It bothers me a tad when they poof right in front of a place. Why not around the corner from eyes looking out the windows. Or is this a special Djinn talent whereby they sense the moment that eyes are elsewhere? (I could’ve used that talent, even without teleportation, back in certain moments in time.)
Names of characters in the strip are shown. Why not certain locations… like Sartorelli’s? Then you could ref previous strips at or near that place for whatever reason.
They could meet Andy and Rouyaa in there and overhear the problems with the NASA budget. Jean, being nice again is actually the one to fix the budget and Rouyaa gets blamed for it this time. But wait! If Rouyaa still has her bottle then there are two bottles. What could possibly go wrong?
I didn’t know Sartorelli’s was in Cincinnati. Besides, if Rouyaa is still a Geanie she could poof herself and Andy to the cafe to get a famous Kibble Burger just as easily as Jeanie and Neil.
OK, I went back and read Larry’s post. It has to be Cincinnati. But Rouyaa could still poof herself and Andy and maybe even Sid to get a Kibble Burger. And Rouyaa would see Jeanie’s little red cap and know that she is a genie.
Yeah and why would Rouyaa even know of Sartorelli’s? It’s apparently not a chain, just a single diner in Cincinnati, a city which neither Rouyaa nor Andy have ever been implied to have visited.
Rouyaa lost her genie powers in 1969, definitely before Jean and Neil were born whatever the “now” is. It’s set in stone because it happened right after the return of Apollo 10. Rouyaa might have some genie powers now since she was de-aged and put in a bottle by the Blue Djinn, but they might not be up to time travel levels–and we don’t know where Rouyaa is now, or if she was even in contact with them at all since the defeat of the Blue Djinn.
No, she is still Ms Eden the de-genied Genie or basically a human shrunken down to bottle size and stuck in an almost empty wine bottle. We still don’t know how she got out of the bottle or if she still in the bottle even or weather she drunk, because, she been drinking some of the wine in that bottle. Rouyaa or Ms Eden witch is her assumed name, is still basically human even now. But, it would be nice to see what happen to Ms Eden or Rouyaa if you prefer.
I believe that Einstein-Rosen prevents transmitting information faster than the speed of light would permit. Given the lack of intelligence and knowledge most of these characters have exhibited, it is doubtful that they could transmit enough information to violate that law! (Please don’t try to introduce actual science to refute this joke.)
It’s a “closed” timelike curve that is the problem–closed means that your timeline meets itself (i.e. giving any form of object or information to your past self–and you don’t have to give it directly–it still forms a closed curve if there are intermediaries–all that matters is that something goes from your future self to your past self).
That’s right; page 383, panels three and four. Jeanie is even wearing the same outfit, although Neil’s clothes have changed. That was 4 1/2 years ago… that’s some serious planning.
The “great thing” about the plandemic is that it ends the moment *they* want it to end. That is the moment the constant fear porn stops so does the epidemic as it is really just a flu.
But the purpose of course is to crash the economy and trap us all into medical tyranny.
But these are all subjects that shouldn’t have been part of this comic, I honestly don’t understand why it was included. It only serve to depress people more, who are looking for a little escapism by reading webcomics.
And honestly the suicide rates caused by the lockdowns are way higher than the number of people who have actually died from this (and people die from normal influenza every day too, and we have never screamed bloody murder about that before)
I actually want to know, why your bring this up in a webcomic comment section?
This isn’t a comic on the issues with the pandemic, the If it’s real? Or the politics of it all.
It’s a comic of, one simple thing….”What did Jean DO?”
Teleport them to an alternate reality? Different time? Pocket dimension where Sartorelli’s Diner exists? All of which the pandemic may not exist; or maybe a reality where masks aren’t a thing, they aren’t need, cause here they have devices in people’s throats where all the bad stuff is filtered out before it gets to the lungs. There’s dozen of possiblities to discuss.
It looks more like your taking the small aspect (the mask part) of this comic as an opportunity to stir the pot, put your views on the pandemic and politics of the pandemic out there and try to get a raise out of people.
Alastir, this a comic strip only, go take your crap someplace else, like maybe a discussion board where they discus issue like this. This isn’t the place for it.
Yes, he did. The reason that he took Natalie is because, Jeanie didn’t want to go to Las Vegas in tow with Rodge. Originally, Jeanie was interested in going to Las Vegas when she thought that it was Neil that was going to win the company contest and when Rodge ended up with it, Jeanie bailed out on wanting to go to Las Vegas pitched it to Neil as Natalie. So yes, Natalie did go to Las Vegas with Rodge against her own will of course.
There two way to look at this.
1. It a date.
2. It just two friend spending time with each other and there just out to get something to eat and that it, neither one of them is considering this as a date and nor is there any romantic intent here either. It more like a brother sister relationship only.
Neil don’t ask question till after the meal and enjoy it.
I bet they are in the past before the pandemic
What if they are bringing the epidemic to the past and thereby starting it?
Honestly, it’d make more sense to go to the future, after the pandemic is over with and everyone has access to a vaccine, this also means no changing the timeline (because people don’t consider the “future” to be part of the timeline, even though it is just as much as the past is)
But this would require Jeannie to be smart
I mean, that would also require Jeannie to be intending to use her power for that purpose. Which she clearly isn’t. They went to get a burger.
Based on the arc’s name, I’m guessing they went back in time.

Actually Jean could have already screwed up the timeline–remember this is the second time she’s gone back in time to Sartorelli’s Diner.
Let’s just hope she is coming back the next day and not the same day and time as the last trip.
I had the same thought. Though maybe time travel is okay for genies? Bringing a mortal might be bad. What with free will causing disruption.
I can see them running into her coming out. Also time paradoxes aside Neil thank the girl for doing something nice for you.
thought panels would state which year they were in before and after the poof

Note the city skyline in the background. I don’t think that’s Cocoa Beach.
Looks like 1970s Boston.
More likely it in Cincinnati, because, that where they grew up at and since Jean was 23 year old. So we are probably looking at about 5 to 7 years in the past in Cincinnati. That would make them 16 or 18 years old should they run into themself from the past.
Hey wow, that’s a damn good point! Even I didn’t notice that little hint. CD is good…
They should visit WKRP…
“As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.”
“I find your lack of faith disturbing.”
Is the pandemic a predestination paradox caused by Jean? It is, goddammit, she’s doomed us all. I knew it.
It would be difficult to eat wearing a mask. Give her that.
It bothers me a tad when they poof right in front of a place. Why not around the corner from eyes looking out the windows. > Why not around the corner from eyes looking out the windows.
Because Jeannie isn’t very smart? lol
In this case, Jeanie’s bottle is in Neil’s bedroom in the “present” while Rouyaa’s bottle is in the “past” so I don’t think there’s an issue.
But why would Andy and Rouyaa be in Cincinnati?
I didn’t know Sartorelli’s was in Cincinnati. Besides, if Rouyaa is still a Geanie she could poof herself and Andy to the cafe to get a famous Kibble Burger just as easily as Jeanie and Neil.

Maybe they heard about the famous Kibble Burger over WKRP radio. Before the phone cops got there. Am I the only one suffering from cabin fever.
No, Andy – err Gary, you’re not alone. And they certainly wouldn’t have heard of it from those swine at WPIG…
Welcome to Cincinnati. Ohayo!
Rouyaa lost her genie powers in 1969, definitely before Jean and Neil were born whatever the “now” is. It’s set in stone because it happened right after the return of Apollo 10. Jean, did you just initiate an open timelike curve in violation of Einstein-Rosen, potentially causing a violation of causality?
Naughty! Bad Genie!
I believe that Einstein-Rosen prevents transmitting information faster than the speed of light would permit. Given the lack of intelligence and knowledge most of these characters have exhibited, it is doubtful that they could transmit enough information to violate that law! Traversable wormholes are completely possible under theory of relativity.
It’s a “closed” timelike curve that is the problem–closed means that your timeline meets itself (i.e. giving any form of object or information to your past self–and you don’t have to give it directly–it still forms a closed curve if there are intermediaries–all that matters is that something goes from your future self to your past self).
I hope we get to know why Jeanie and Neil came to the past in the Rouyaa backstory as they can be seen in the background of the flashback.
That’s right; page 383, panels three and four. Jeanie is even wearing the same outfit, although Neil’s clothes have changed. That was 4 1/2 years ago… that’s some serious planning.
You don’t think I have a plan?
So if they eat in the past will Neil still be full when they go “back to the future”
Presumably the contents of his stomach would be transported along with him.
Could be a bit messy otherwise 🙂

This is just pathetic, man. Go read some actual reports about what’s going on and drop your conspiracy bullshit. Your nonsense isn’t welcome here.
I actually want to know, why your bring this up in a webcomic comment section?

If that’s the case… SHAME…!
That’s *exactly* what this nut is doing. Which is why I called it pathetic.
Alastir, this a comic strip only, go take your crap someplace else, like maybe a discussion board where they discus issue like this. This isn’t the place for it.
Neil, she’s taking you on a date. Don’t be unnecessarily dense … unless you prefer Rodge taking Natalie on a date.
Bet some people would like to see that.
Didn’t Rodge take Natalie to Las Vegas?
Yes, he did. The reason that he took Natalie is because, Jeanie didn’t want to go to Las Vegas in tow with Rodge. oh no. This is far worse than I expected.
There’s only one possibility when you eliminate 2 of the possible time frames.
You guys don’t disappoint~
modified on December 30th 2020? What The?! also, where’s the next comic?
