Chapter: Story 16: I Dream of Nostalgia
Ohh, I totally forgot that Lahab has undetectable shape-shifting powers!
Ohh, I totally forgot that Lahab has undetectable shape-shifting powers!
Yeah, the 2 previous chapters how Kazom helped Jean by giving the items necessary for the body swap.
OK, I’m trying to work out when, exactly, this is happening. Is this in the present day, or is this a flashback to before the Blue Djinn got bested by Jeannie?
We never did find out what happened to Rouyaa after the BD trapped her in a bottle.
Kazom said “had retrieved”, not “has retrieved”, so I think this is after his defeat.
That was a relevant line while I was copy editing this page. CD confirmed that “had retrieved” is the appropriate spelling.
I interpreted this as present day and that small chest Lahab retrieved is a new token for Rouyaa.
Since Lahab said “I got them” (plural) rather than “I got it“, then the chest thing is probably just a container for the (multiple) objects that she was after.
I’m going to guess that she got some of the little egg-thing whatjamacallits that Jeannie was introduced to, and that she (Jeannie) was accused of stealing.
Banishment might not look so bad.
If this is after his defeat then our girl Jeanie has the eye, whatever that is. What could possibly go wrong? It will be nice to see Rouyaa again.
Just noticed Lahab, despite her rank, had to perform the heist herself rather than sending any minion.
I’m honestly surprised about the apparent lack of agents and spies loyal to her rather than Haji, as many women as smart as her in a similar position would have in order to further their influence and secure power.
It may be that some of the magical security would open for her as Haji’s First that would not open for a Genie of lesser rank. Also, she may have skills that few others have that aided her in evading such magics—note how absolutely no magical alarms had been tripped, and only the guard seeing the unauthorized person (but not any evidence of the breal-in itself) led to any response at all.
Lahab has no rank. She is Haji’s “First”, which comes with some sort of prestige among the Genies, and she has authority inside the Harem, but even though the Lords respect her and listen to her, she is still bellow them in the chain of command.
Even more reason to network and curry as much favor as possible. As we have seen, even members of the harem can fall from grace.
There might also be an element of “when you want something done right, do it yourself”, though it may not be the entire reason. There also seems to be an element of secrecy involved. There is a quote: two people can keep a secret if one of them is dead. So, by not involving another person/being, the number potential leakers is as small as possible.
Good points. The most successful conspiracies are those that involve the fewest people. (This is why most successful assassinations are the work of lone-wolf assassins.)
I also suspect that she (and Kazom) may not know just who else they can trust.
Kazom is looking a little bit plump in panel 4. Maybe he should start chasing mice.
He has never been good at it.

At least that is still better than my cat. She just sets there and watches them run around the room.
Your cat has them trained.
Yay Kazom. I want to see him here. The story line in Melvin is incoherent.
I appears that the “eye” Kasom is refering to is the “Eye of Solomon”, a ring that gives the wearer the ability to command tje Jinn.
