Chapter: Story 13: I Dream of Separation
Just in case you somehow missed it, the Cybertruck is Tesla’s upcoming cyberpunk-inspired pickup truck. It looks awesomely weird. Exactly one of them currently exist, so it being in the parking lot at this space center would be very a unusual occurance. I wonder what it means?
Really wish Neil body was active could make a call to some friend to look for him there.
Neil will have to ask his friend who works at space x for help, and hopefully he will have to seduce him

I would love to have a Cybertruck, but I sure don’t have the $50,000+ to buy one when Tesla starts production.
Strictly speaking, the cheapest trim is “only” $40,000. 🙂
Isn’t that the vehicle with the “unbreakable” windows that they broke during a demonstration of how unbreakable they are?
Anyone who thinks that’s a lot of money for a truck hasn’t been paying attention to the market. 40k – 50k is common these days, heavy duty diesels start around 60k and can easily cost upwards of 90k with all the options. Work truck packages are available for less but anyone looking at a Tesla isn’t looking for a work truck. I doubt Tesla will offer a “carpet delete” option.
As for the awesomely weird design it actually makes a lot of sense from a structural and aerodynamic standpoint and includes features that would make it a great weekend toy hauler. As a truck for doing real work it has significant issues, particularly the sloped side panels, which would make it tough to lift anything over the sides. You certainly couldn’t stack 40 hay bales on it. Though I suppose you could always pull a trailer.
It does follow the Tesla tradition of giving stupid new names to old technology by calling the bed a “frunk”, just as they insist their gull wing doors are “swan’s wing doors” as if that made any goddamn difference.
When I was looking at the concept, I though it will cost 10x more than normal car. It does NOT. 40k doesn’t sound so bad and if I wait a bit it might even get cheaper … or other cars would cost more at that point.

The Cybertruck’s bed is called the “vault”, because it has a built-in tonneau cover, which means you can lock up and protect the contents of the bed as a standard feature. I’m fairly sure a built-in tonneau is unique to the Cybertruck, but I’m not particularly well versed in truck features.
The “frunk” is the front trunk, which all Teslas have because they haven’t got bulky engines up there.

They’re “Falcon Wing Doors”, actually, and there is a difference. The doors are double-hinged, while Gull Wing Doors are single-hinged. The double hinges are what allows them to both open in regular-size parking spaces while parked next to two other cars, without hitting said cars.

It’s so cheap because of the weird design, actually. Rather than needing massive, thousand-ton presses to shape steel plates into car parts, they can build both the frame and the shell by simply folding large sheets of stainless steel. And since it’s stainless steel, there’s no paint, and paint shops in car factories are CRAZY expensive to build and run.
That’s how they can offer a 6-seat EV pickup with a 250 mile range, with all the standard amenties that come on every Tesla (basic Autopilot, a center screen that has GPS, Netflix, video games, etc) for only $40k.
part of me wants to buy that kinda truck, but it’s WAAAAAAAAAY above my folks’ paygrade!

SpaceX wouldn’t need to kidnap anyone for their test flights. They have enough fans that if they asked for volunteers, they’d have them lined up around the block. Even if they were told they only had a 50/50 chance of surviving the flight they’d still do it.
Heck, I might even be one of them.

I think it’s much more likely that they’re kidnapping the kids as test subjects for Neuralink. That shit is bonkers.
Neuralink is only the public face of the first step research for the I Was A Teenage Brain In A Jar department.
Strangely, many of the test subjects are known to have picked up singing as a pastime.
This brings to mind “The Ship Who Sang” by Anne McCaffrey in which a human brain is linked to a starship. Technically a cyborg.

I think at this point; Neil/Araceli needs a tire thumper. It’s what trucker use to check their tires. It’s a club looking thing with a metal rod inside for weight. So you can see why this might come in handy.
