I’m guessing that the only people who could reinstate him are in that Genie Lords’ meeting.

Haji is probably the only that can re-instate Kazom back into being a Genie Lord if he want to, because, he the head of all the Genie including the Genie Lords too. But, right now Kazom is kind of out of favor with Haji and the other Genie Lords.

@Willis: Well, it could still be possible; it isn’t like he said he can’t change back into his genie self, yet. I’m curious as to how he got a cat familiar body yet still have genie magic. Maybe he knows a way through the barrier or around it.

Maybe it’s actually a portmanteau of “family” and “lairs”? Perhaps?

      … I’ll fix it.

“Familiar” <==> “Family Liar” ??   (grin)

Maybe Jehane put it up to prevent anyone from following her.

Also, since we are pretty sure that is Jehane, shouldn’t the tag be for her and not Jeannie?

That’s what I’m thinking, too. That barrier that she just walked through is just a little too convenient.

Tsk. The one guy in the building with his head screwed on straight, and he’s locked out of the library. Typical. 🙁

So. Not considered a genie now?

Who knows, Kazom could be a hi-bred, where he both a Genie and a familiar too. That could have been one of the side effect of what both Kazom and Melvin dad had to go through to save the world. When Melvin dad choose to make the supreme sacrifice, he needed a familiar to complete the task and he only had Kazom available for that purpose, so Kazom got the honors of being Melvin dad familiar, which also changed Kazom from a man to a cat form and/or a familiar, but, Kazom is still a Genie. So now he has a dual nature of being a Genie and a familiar too.

        Don’t you mean “hybrid”?

Does anyone else see the feud between witches and genies much like the hostility between elves and dwarves in Lord of the Rings? An tradition so old no one really remembers how it got started.

The excuse for cat-egorizing is that he collaborated with witches. But I think the real reasons could be either the jealousy of Haji, probably well past his Best By date (I’m reminded of the Storm King in A Spell for Chameleon) or the treachery of Guano, who got the credit for defeating the Blue Djinn when it was really Kazom and Melvin’s dad. Probably both.

Nah, we know why the Elves and Dwarves went to war.
Elves lived in forests. Dwarves wanted fuel for their forges.
That, and some bickering between the Valar that resulted in the creation of the Ents to make sure the forests weren’t all destroyed.

Next chapter: Samantha comes flying down the hall.
“Jeannie! I have something very important to tell–” SLAM!! “Owww… Where am I? And why am I wearing this silly costume and holding a broom?”

Well, Jeanie Bottle has already borrowed Grace from El Goonish Shive, and now I think they’ve borrowed (almost) invisible force walls from there too. Adrian Raven cast force walls on the corridors of his school when he was fighting another wizard in inside Moperville South High School in Sister II.

Moving beyond that and the proper spelling of “familiars”, who exactly is Kazom talking to in the last two panels? Himself? Then how is he getting answers, just jogging his memory?

I don’t think so. I think he’s talking to a witch or a warlock because genies don’t have familiars. I think he’s somehow talking to Melvin’s dad, or his ghost. Or maybe Kazom carries his soul around, essentially like how Spock infused his essence into McCoy in The Wrath of Khan and The Search for Spock.

I just assumed he was talking to himself. As a person who talks to himself, I’d recognize that semi-sarcastic tone that Kazom is using anywhere.

Talking to yourself is fine. It’s when you start to reply, and argue with yourself, that you might get a visit from those nice young men in their clean white coats to take you away, to the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time… Ha ha, hee hee, ho ho… !

The real problem is when you argue with yourself and LOSE.

But Kazom doesn’t need to be afraid, considering he’s not human. Any young men in white coats attempting to take him away claiming he hear him arguing with himself would be taken away by his colleagues.

Come to that, Tom, the magic barrier bears more than a passing resemblance to the force fields in Star Trek. And we know that genies can time-travel; if to the past, then why not to the future? Could this be the first step to the long-awaited Star Trek crossover?

Right. Force field that some can past through and others are blocked, where did I saw it … in Borg cube.

How you really distract Kazom is with a ball of yarn.

That’s a good question – would having a cat’s body make you susceptible to catnip?

The hell is with the DRASTICALLY different character design? That’s the same scraggly cat that looked like a dog toward the beginning?
