Jeanie

Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office. On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.

some “Genie Savy” Boss Hogg is, he doesn’t know that Genies can’t reverse each other’s magic, without screwing things up.

More importantly, he doesn’t know that he wished to reverse a wish that never actually happened, hence why it didn’t work.

Reminds me of a “Mr. and Mrs. Superman” comic story years ago. Johnny Thunder and his thunderbolt were under the control of an evil magician and to save him, Lois (Lane) Kent pretended to be a sorceress. Johnny was ordered to have his thunderbolt “Take away the lady’s magic” and was told “No can do, boss (Because she HAS NO magic)”.

I smell a genie switcheroo brewing.

Could be problems depending on how Hogg makes that wish. Because if he wishes to swap genies then we could have another unintended genie being created, as magic is fickle.

Since only the genie who originally fulfilled a wish can reverse it, then Hogg will need to acquire Cooter’s “genie”. The plan may be that Cooter will demand Hogg’s genie in exchange, but the fact that Hogg (believes that he) will be getting a new genie with a full three wishes (i.e. one more wish than if he’d stuck with Jean) would probably sweeten the deal for him.

Oh, yes! The old bait and switch routine. That where you bait your sucker and do the switch number on them. It going to be a real hoot to see Boss Hogg finding out that he switch a real Genie for a fake Genie. But, then he stole Jeanie in the first place. So that good enough for him.

This has always been a weekly comic. There are very infrequent times when we’ll update twice a week, and every Christmas we do an entire week of updates every day. But other than that, CD Rudd only makes one comic per week.

If you want another comic that updates more frequently, check out CD Rudd’s other comic, SailorSun.org. It updates every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

I get the feeling that Bo might become a real genie soon.

No, but Jean may use her magic to make it look like Bo’s a real genie.

Yes, this is just trick to make Boss Hogg think that Bo a Genie, so they can get the real bottle with the real Genie back into Neil hands again.

Yes, I could see magic being fickle enough to make Bo into a genie if Hogg phrased a wish the wrong way and Jeannie was forced to grant it that way. But, she does seem to have a lot of leeway at times.

For that to happen, there would have to be a new totem created too or there could be no new Genie being created here. Jean became Jeanie, because he picked up an empty Genie bottle or totem and was half wishing that he could do a number on Barbra Eden and then turned into a cartoon version of Barbra Eden as Jeanie. So that empty bottle that Cooter was holding would have to become totem or Genie Bottle.

      I don’t see that happening.

        That makes me wonder:

Can a genie turn a human into a genie? How about if the human, as a totem owner, wishes it?

        Interesting thought.

I’d say yes since that’s pretty much what happened to Jeanie.

If Jean(n)ie’s new color is white (even her goofy hat is white, when normally it remains red when she’s cosplaying), why are her poofs still pink?

    • Robert
      March 11, 2016, 3:24 am | # | Reply

We don’t really know why her clothes have changed to white. It may be for a reason that’s unrelated to whatever governs the color of her poofs.

      March 12, 2016, 2:16 am | # | Reply

Probably because only her default costume reflects the current owner of her totem. Her magic, for whatever reason, doesn’t change its’ basic nature.

We don’t really *know* that, though. All we know is that Jeanie’s costume is white right now. Especially now that we know her poofs haven’t changed colors, I think Vimmy’s theory is probably accurate.

        Robert:
Either that, or CD just did a pink Poof out of habit, and then realized it too late, after it was published.

I like the other version: her clothes reflect her owner, her Poofs reflect her nature.

Of course, this could get settled by seeing what color Aracelli’s magic produces.

I think Boss Hogg just told her to wear white.

White symbolizes purity and innocence. Yeah, right.

White clothing can also represent wealth & social status. The wearer can afford expensive cleaning bills and frequent replacement costs.
