Oh, those are Bo’s hands there. I almost thought that was his new nude rack showing. Why are the Dukes naked for anyways?

Do they really need a reason? It’s some teaser part of the plan, I would guess.

Hmm, Neil is in a suit. Is he supposed to be Cooter’s lawyer in this charade or something?

Probably; he’s got a briefcase, too. That’s always a sign of trouble.

Them Duke girls have a plan, and I think I know what it is. Clever girls. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If he wished he knew what was going on he would know it is a trick to get him to waste wishes.

If he wished that, he’d *know* what was going on, and would deal with it.

As a gift to all that have birthdays this week can we have two comic updates lol

Ya all might not be aware of this, but I’m on a course with very little free time. Robert and I busted our butts Dec and Jan in order to make enough updates so the comics can continue while I am on course. Hence consider the non-Hiatus the gift. Cause there wasn’t any time to make extras.

        “Ya all” really CD? ๐Ÿ™‚

But on another note I am sure most do appreciate all the time and effort ya all put in.

I suppose it’s too late to worry about guest appearances by Coy and Vance…

      Oh, that’s riiight… They’re Duke Boys too!

Which means they’re probably Duke girls now ๐Ÿ˜€

Kinda makes you wonder if the ending of this story might have Bo & Luke waving bye to Neil & Jean only to find out about ‘Cora’ & ‘Vanna’.

Knowing Jeanie’s meticulous attention to detail and razor sharp focus I wouldn’t be surprised if every “boy” with the surname duke just became a girl up to and including little 9 year Billy Duke in Bukinshire England.

Heck, if we’re talking about England, she might very well have ka-girl’d every male with the title of “Duke”!

I very much do not want to see the female version of John Wayne. Not, not, not. Gods, Rooster Cogburn, eyepatch, cigar, and all, only a foot shorter, boobs, and no weight loss.

        No thank you.

Houston we have a plan and we are off and running! I see Boss Hoggs being victim or his own deceit and craftiness and him missing the obvious answers of what really going on here. By the time he figure out what going on, it will be all over.

    “So…start a tab?”

I can’t help but to think that that was an immensely satisfying thing for Daisy to say to Hogg.

Nitpick in panel 2: should bring -> should be bringing

They are southerners after all. Maybe their English an’t too good.

    • Robert
      February 24, 2016, 5:02 am | # | Reply

Is that necessarily required? It seems like a legitimate alternate conjugation for the concept of “will bring in the future”. But I could be wrong.

        February 24, 2016, 6:51 am | # | Reply

“Daisy should bring him his lunch any second” – Simple present “bring” with the modal “should” can be lots of different things, depending on the construction (condition, obligation, probability/expectation, softening a direct statement, etc)

Here, due to lack of context (nothing to make it condtion “if she should…”, etc), it appears to be one of two things:

1: Expectation of a _future_ event (as in, she hasn’t yet started bringing the lunch, but “any second” she will start on the way)

2: Softening of a direct statement/command from akin to
“Daisy, bring him his lunch.” to akin to “Daisy, you should bring him his lunch.”

From the context of the comic (including what we as readers know from prior to this strip), neither are what he means.

“Daisy should be bringing him his lunch any second”

Using the present progressive “be bringing” changes the aspect of the verb and makes it an ongoing action. Here, the context lets us know it’s neither obligation nor condition but rather expectation (“any second”) so that the speaker believes/expects that at approximately the current time (maybe a little earlier, maybe a little after), that Daisy will be in the process of bringing the lunch to Boss Hogg.

It’s a little fuzzy, because “bringing” encompasses a lot of different points on the timeline (when she picks it up from the eatery, she’s bringing it; when she is carrying it from the eatery to his office, she is bringing it; and when she’s delivering it to him at his desk, she’s bringing it. We’re left to interpret as best we can (from context) what part of the process of bringing is important in the discourse.

        I think most readers aren’t going to be looking at this strip in isolation and they’ll have the context of the previous two strips, so they’ll understand what is meant rather than what is technically stated. Thus it’s really more of a nitpick than an impediment to understanding and why I didn’t get all pedantic until asked. ^^;

Ah, I completely missed that. CD Rudd made every single page for 3 months of comics in a single weekend (since he was going on course right afterward, and didn’t want JB to have another hiatus), so corners were cut. I caught and fixed most of them, but I completely missed Cooter’s beard.

        February 26, 2016, 3:10 am | # | Reply

Oh, hey, you guys are right. Cooter’s beard continues to be gone in future pages, so it’s probably part of the plan.

I took Marscaleb’s comment at face value, assuming that he’s noticed the beard appearing and disappearing over the last few months. But it hasn’t; it’s there to start, sticks around, and goes away starting on this page.

      Here’s a picture:
