Wow. He’s cleverer than I expected.

I wonder if the Boss is gonna end up TG’ed, age regressed ,or tricked in some other way. Though to be fair, if the Boss’s worded his wishes to match his intentions properly, no genie could twist it. I’ve seen it happen in the Fairly OddParents, and Danny Phantom.

Looks like Boss is a lot of steps ahead of the game. Neil is going to have to have a lot of luck (and a good plan) for this one.

This all seems now to be about “Who can out-con who.” But Jean already seemed to have scored one point for genderbending the Dukes.

As for wish-twisting, sometimes it’s the wisher’s own fault for lack of foresight or sentence phrasing to why some wishes don’t work out as they personally intented. Being nice to genies may help prevent intentional malicious outcomes on their part, but not planning out the process for how the wish is to make the desired outcomes come true is where it bites you in the rear. Some wishers only thinks of the end-results, leaving the genie/magic to fill in their neglected gaps.

Wow, a genre savvy Boss Hogg.
Maybe he should wish to know how to best use his last wish.

That’s what the guy who found Jaffar-Genie’s lamp should have done.

So Boss is going to be nice to her untill the wish?

Wait…. Does he have all the time in the world or is there ‘launch window’?

Is it Neil’s time that’s running out?

Robert, is there an email address to which I can send you something? I have a small contribution to make, a sort of Christmas present.

Sure! You can send me an email at robert@sailorsun.org (CD Rudd’s other comic is SailorSun.org, thus the different domain name).

I greatly appreciate the thought, and look forward to seeing the present!

“I’ll keep the little genie happy…”

…by making her a waitress in my BBQ joint.

So I was wrong in thinking Hogg did this to humiliate Jeanie. Instead, he understands her all too well, better than Neil does, better than she herself does.

Jeanie could actually find herself becoming as loyal to Hogg as a dog to her master. Something of the sort happened to a genie going by the name “Eva Braun”. (And note that Braun’s master was absolutely adored by many of the women in the Fatherland.)

    ===

We know that won’t happen with Jeanie and Hogg, because CD Rudd, but I hope this is a lesson for Neil. When he regains control of the totem, he needs to take a MUCH more active role as master.

Or maybe Hogg just thought: “She obviously doesn’t want to go to her bottle, so I won’t make her do that. That’ll get me on her good side. I don’t have anything better for her to do than wait tables at my restaurant, though, so lets hope she can tolerate that.”

Then the quote would be, “I won’t piss the genie off.”

But no, it’s “I’ll keep the little genie happy.” Even his use of the word “little” is revealing.

could it be that Hogg just thinks it makes her happy. Where Jeanie is happier doing the waitress thing
        rather then in the bottle

Yeah, it’s interesting, the use of a diminutive in that line. Reveals a lot of what he thinks about Jeanie…and possibly others as well.

        It’s okay, I’ve heard worse…a LOT worse. 🙂

He’s either the only character in history to remember what happens to every dude whose ever tried to make a wish with a genie, or wrong genre savvy.

      December 25, 2015, 5:19 am | # | Reply

How is he wrong genre savvy, though? He’s right that Jeanie would try to twist his wishes. Heck, she already did!

I think what Nobody meant is that Hogg is savvy about the wrong genre–but I admit, I don’t know what the right genre would be.

That’s just it, though. He’s being savvy about the right genre. He assumes Jeanie will twist his wishes, and she absolutely will.

Boss Hogg did not get to be BOSS by being a fool.

I think his first wish, about the Dukes and the General, already has backfired…

All the more reason for him to be careful about the other wishes. Rushing into making poorly-thought-out wishes is exactly what he is attempting to avoid.

BOSS knows what he’s doing when it comes to manipulation. Now lets see if he gets distracted enough to end up creating a situation where Neil and the Duke “girls” can relieve him of his newly stolen good fortune. Perhaps jealousy/greed on the sheriffs part will provide that opportunity.

The new Duke Girls do have an extra advantage in that Hogg will not recognize them as his longtime enemies–as long as they’re not foolish enough to blurt out their names to him.

“As long as her bottle is in my safe, I have all the time in the world”, huh? Wow, tempting fate much?

    December 25, 2015, 11:43 am | # | Reply

Yeah, Hogg understands the risk of careless wishing. But I’m not sure he understands just how deep the risk lies. It’s not just the phrasing.

Thing is, Hogg already has what he wants; he just wants more, as in ALL THERE IS. That’s not going to end well for him.

No matter how carefully he words it, he’s wishing for something that will hurt him to have.

“Oft evil will shall evil mar”.

If Jeanie has too much fun as a waitress, will she seek similar work even after she returns to Neil?

      December 25, 2015, 1:50 pm | # | Reply

Yes, even if he phases it properly, his wish can still backfire. He can still make a wish to kill someone, which violates what a Genie is allowed to do. Then something else will happen instead. This is about the only thing that Boss Hogg doesn’t understand about Genie and Genie Code, which can’t be violated by anyone.

I don’t know much about genie magic, but am I the only one wondering how fast a genie can open a locked safe?

    • Larry
      December 25, 2015, 1:40 pm | # | Reply

Of course Jeanie can open a locked safe. It her bottle that she can’t grab and take away.

Wait, a genie cannot pick up her own bottle?

Magic her way out of the bottle, no.

Magic her bottle out of the safe, no.

But she can’t just pick it up and carry it off? Really?

At the very least, she can magic Neil next to the safe with her, so he can grab the bottle, then magic both of them out of Hogg’s office or home.

She can pick up her own bottle–but she can’t remove it from the possession of her current Master until the required three wishes have been granted.

So does Boss Hogg consider the bottle’s previous owner to be no threat to his great plans? Will he have to deal with Neil the same way he dealt the Dukes?

    • Silent Shadow

Neil’s already been TG’d before. Assuming he isn’t sent to a different location, I doubt it would get in Neil’s way too much.

Heh, it is pleasantly surprising to see a character so informed of the Genie trope at play here. Not many fictional works tend to go in that direction, usually playing with ignorant master wish making instead.

Well I’ll be. An actual smart character. That’s new. You’d thing the engineers or the nerds would be SMART, but NOPE, this is the first one who’s not an idiot. And yet he wasn’t too bright in the Dukes of Hazzard show itself.
