Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
Thankfully it was the kind of stopper that Neil could remove easily. A stopper that could only be removed magically (like the genie collar had been) would have been much worse for these two.
Now, will Jeanie tell Neil what Araceli is up to? And will Neil believe her, or will he think that Jeanie is just jealous?
Well, I assume that there is a rule preventing that. Plus what would that accomplish? Araceli wants Jean to mess up again, how can that happen when she is “locked” inside her bottle? That would just be Araceli delaying her own goal.
The whole comic is a about Neil and Jean. Jean was transformed into a Genie by accident in the very first page of the comic. Neil became her first master and already used up the 3 wishes (it’s all in the first chapter). Jean decided to stay with Neil, although her powers are a bit limited (but still impressive)
This is loosely based on the I Dream of Jeanie series and that did come up. I believe Jeanie gets a new master and new wishes if locked in the bottle for 72 hours and someone else opens it. But I don’t remember for sure from the old series or if it applies here. Unless I missed a time passing mark it has been less than 6 hours I would think.
Well this is the 2nd time that Arceli has locked Jean in a bottle and tried to steal Neil. Given the first time was at the bottom of the sea, a situation Jean only escaped from through pure luck, and if that sailor hadn’t turned out to be such a dumbass could have been a lot nastier, there is bound to be a bit of PTSD emotionality involved.
Also, anyone willing to bet that shirt Neil is wearing is from a concert of one of Jean’s favorite bands to snap this back to the usual mood of the comic?
Well somewhat obviously but she has been becoming steadily more feminine and girlfriendish as the series goes on. I agree really touching scene with her crying alone then hugging him as she cries on his chest.
She’s a new genie and he’s in charge of her training (and doing a lousy job). I doubt he knows she used to be a guy but I’m fairly sure he knows she used to be human.
Hug her stupid yeesh!!!. I guess i was wrong on how this was going to play out. I am happy with what happened.
Now that Neil has popped her cork for the first time i wonder if things will change. He was the first to let her out of her bottle now.
This is the first time he released her from her bottle. He was assumed to be her master before by Lord bat poop. Now he is.
Jean-ie i think may have finally realized she needs Neil to protect her. As Jean he lived a charmed life were things worked out for him and he never had to deal with the consequences of his actions I don’t think he knows how to cope with life going all pear shaped on him. Making Neil into him so he was still dating Bell is not the actions of someone that has it all together upstairs. Jean is very deluded on what his life is now. Being trapped in his bottle might have been the wake up call he needed.
I’d forgotten that Jeanie opened the bottle the first time herself. No, wait, looking at the strip, it doesn’t look like she opened it, there is no cork. I think she just rubbed it, but that’s not clear.
And yet, Neil’s first wish–that they had the key to Jeanie’s apt–was instantly granted. The bottle, or the Power it represents, seems to think Neil is the Master.
But now he’s really the Master, having uncorked the bottle himself, and I wonder if that has altered Jeanie’s emotional balance.
Jeanie been in the bottle several times, but this is the first time that she been in the bottle and had a cork put in the end of it while Jeanie was still in bottle. When Jean became Jeanie, the bottle what open and there wasn’t any cork present to close that bottle up.

Me too. Neil is twice her master now.
Senko November 6, 2014 at 5:28 am: “[Jeanie] has been becoming steadily more feminine and girlfriendish as the series goes on. I agree really touching scene with her crying alone then hugging him as she cries on his chest.”
Yeah, I have a hard time imagining Jean acting like this. Not in his character, as far as we’ve seen.
And yeah again, I love the vulnerable Jeanie. Don’t want her to turn clingy and dependent, that would spoil the comic’s chemistry, but this moment is touching. Still, I hope this signals a permanent change. I do want Jeanie to remember this moment, and to realize that this happened because she’s been so dismissive of what it means to be a genie, and to have a master.
As I’ve said before, though, Neil needs to accept the duties of his role as well.
===
I’m wondering if Neil will wish that he gets to keep Jean’s body (or, rather, a version of his body with Jean’s fitness level).
===
I’m betting Neil was a prefect gentleman with Jean’s girlfriend. Be interesting to see whether or not she liked that.
===
And yeah, I’m hoping Araceli gets set down for interfering with Neil and Jeanie’s friendship, Master/Genie relationship aside.
I don’t want her bottled for another thousand years, but I do want Neil, at least, to give her a good scolding, to understand that she did not act in his interests.
Guano, on the other hand, does need to have a mortal master again. (I understand he doesn’t now, but I don’t think he’s free of compulsion, either. He answers to some authority.)
I’m not sure if his type of Genie ever had/have masters since he’s not a bottle genie. Still I hope somewhere in the structure there is some higher up who realizes at the very least turning humans into genies requires some adjustment period to the new rules and will step in when he keeps pushing like this. I mean really female body aside having anyone go from human to slave granting bottle pet is going to really take some getting used too.
I’d also hope that in cases like this where the genie choses to stay with a particular master there’d be at least some protection to keep other genies from interfering with that relationship.
Honestly it’d put me a bit off Neil too. The accidental wish to tell him could be just regular human conversation and telling them off would be nice (if dangerous) but his talking to her that way would be a bit much. Still to each their own.
My assumption is that Jeanie WANTS to explain. Fast-on-the-uptake Neil realizes that a) she wants to, and b) something’s keeping her from doing so.
Even Araceli must realize that if Jeanie’s Master wished that she would explain, she had no choice.
And Neil must accept the duties of being Master. He is in no small degree responsible for this mess, since he failed to control his genie.
It’s like walking through the neighborhood with a large, untrained, and disobedient dog without a leash, and telling everyone she growls at that “She’s just a big softie, really, just rub her belly and she’ll be your friend for life!”
Neil didn’t have that backpack until #277. Maybe Jean poofed it in when she realized that anyone coming back from the Mideast should have at least some luggage.
The new shirt, however, could have an interesting provenance. Perhaps Jean left it at Belle’s place on a previous visit? We don’t know how long Jean has been stuck in that bottle, and since Neil has changed shirts, it’s likely to have been at least overnight…
I’m not so sure of that. Jean is plenty scared now, so she may (for once) stop herself from spilling the beans. Besides, Jean trying to be a dutiful genie is even more likely to make even more trouble for Neil.
Gee, wouldn’t this be a great time for Belle to walk in on “Jeannie” hugging “Jean?” Tune in tomorrow (or whenever the next strip is up) …
I really love this comic so far. ^_^
Been keeping up with it for a while now, and I’ve gotta say I like the character development that’s been going on. Though admittedly, Neil could grow a bit more proactive when it comes to Jean.
Either way, keep it up and keep drawing!
Well, something went “pop” on page 001 of this comic. There was no actual stopper drawn, but I’d always assumed it was just off-panel. Otherwise, what triggered the bottle to Geniefy Jean if not opening it?
Okay, that was touching.
Or it could of been a stopper that was magically locked so that only the master of the lamp would be able to remove it.
Jean “belongs” to Neil. U doubt Araceli is powerful enough to stop a master from summoning its genie.
Well, I assume that there is a rule preventing that. Plus what would that accomplish? Araceli wants Jean to mess up again, how can that happen when she is “locked” inside her bottle? That would just be Araceli delaying her own goal.
Jealous? Why?
🙁
1) Holding and opening a Genie’s bottle…
2) Wishes?
3) ???

It seems her female hormones have taken control of Jean.

Given the first time was at the bottom of the sea, a situation Jean only escaped from through pure luck, and if that sailor hadn’t turned out to be such a dumbass could have been a lot nastier, there is bound to be a bit of PTSD emotionality involved.
A simple touching page, it’s real nice.
Also, anyone willing to bet that shirt Neil is wearing is from a concert of one of Jean’s favorite bands to snap this back to the usual mood of the comic?
It is a touching scene. The irony is not lost on me however, since Neil has Jean’s form she is in effect “hugging her(him)self. 😉
It would be nicer if you didn’t know Jean was going to go back to her normal self-serving, shallow, selfish, me-me-me self once the tears dry.
Well somewhat obviously but she has been becoming steadily more feminine and girlfriendish as the series goes on. I agree really touching scene with her crying alone then hugging him as she cries on his chest.
Also rather like the repeater thank you it’s a shame Neil’s a bit to passive (and freaked) to give her a comforting hug
“Jean, you have boobs now.”
A repeat of that incident’d break the mood…
Neil-Jean may be too played out to, uh, rise to the occasion right now, depending on how demanding Belle was . . .
And now we shall see what happens when Jean tells Neil what has happened.
Remember, Neil had a fairly positive relationship with Araceli. So how will he react…?
That was quick.
It’s not just Araceli who needs to be set straight, Lord Birdshit needs to be informed how Jean became a genie.
Given how he’s been treating her in the knowledge that she used to be human I honestly don’t think he’d care.
What reason do we have to think he knows? The only thing that comes to mind is that he called her “young genie” once or twice – hardly conclusive.
Araceli knew and explained to Jeanie how it happened…
No, it was Zarom who told Jeanie how he was changed.

That right, Neil get three more wishes doesn’t he, that he has to use now too.
Yes: Neil, Hug Your Genie! This is a crucial moment in the Master/Genie bonding process, you dork!
“Popped her cork” Oh, is that what the kids are calling it these days?
This is the first time he released her from her bottle. He was assumed to be her master before by Lord bat poop. Now he is.

“OK, Jean, why were you in that bottle?”
“I…I’m not allowed to say.”
“What do you mean…ah. Jean, I WISH you would tell me why you were in the bottle, and what’s going on.”
[Jeanie explains]
“Goddard’s farts! Jean, I wish Araceli and Guano were here so I can give them the scolding they deserve!”
“Yeah! Me too!”
“You hush. Note I did not WISH for you to be silent, but remember I am the Master here.”

Yeah, never happen. I WISH it would though.

Lovely way to describe Jean there.
That was solved a lot faster than I thought it’d be. Where’d Neil’s new shirt come from?
Unless Jeanie is dreaming…
Unless this “Jean” is Lord Guano or Aracelli in disguise 🙂
They would know where the stopper came from, wouldn’t say “ah..ok…”, and wouldn’t be tagged as “Neil, Neil-Jean”.
Well he did have a backpack full of something when Belle went all seductress on him so he may have had a reason to change clothes.
Neil didn’t have that backpack until #277. Maybe Jean poofed it in when she realized that anyone coming back from the Mideast should have at least some luggage.

Neil is far too calm to have just gotten laid with Belle, as some here seem to think.
That would have been too far outside Neil’s character; so far outside that even light smooching would have been at Belle’s instigation.
I’m going to be very interested to see what did happen and what was said between the two of them.
Am I the only one here not shipping Neil and Jean?
I think not giving Araceli is around 25% of the votes it’s just this strip us entirely Neil and Jean so the comments are likely to be mostly pro that.
I’m shipping Natalie/Rodge, so… Neil and Jeanie wouldn’t work out.
I disagree A man, a female genie and a man/woman depending on mood could work out quite well
Jeanie’s obviously gonna tell “Jean” at least
I’m not so sure of that. Jean is plenty scared now, so she may (for once) stop herself from spilling the beans. Besides, Jean trying to be a dutiful genie is even more likely to make even more trouble for Neil.

Glad to hear it! Long-time fans coming out of the woodwork to leave comments is always good to see. 🙂
Tears and sobbing is what Natascha Kampusch reportly did following Wolfgang Priklopil’s suicide by train. She now owns his house and BMW car.
Has anyone ever told you that your obsession with Stockholm syndrome is kinda creepy?
Natascha Kampusch strongly denies having Stockholm syndrome. Many people say that she has it but refuses to admit it.
