Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
Was actually kind of surprised how full of herself Madeline is. While she criticized Jean for being a fool to get himself turned into a Genie, she is not much better. Criticizing Jeanie for being immature and Neil for just wishing for a sandwitch with genie magic. Yet in the next scene, she is talking to Jeanie, her brother and knowing what he, now she, has turned into. And tells her to watch out for men who are scum… Marceline, you do realize Jeanie is now an immortal magical being who can do whatever she wants. How when first given her powers, she turned Neil into a stripper and teleported him to a strip joint. if anything, it should be Neil she should be worried about because Jean has never been a ‘nice guy’ and now has magical powers to do whatever she wants.
Also would have thought Madeline would have thanked Neil for not abusing the power he now has over your brother, a magical being. How he never once forced Jeanie to do something against her will despite the temptation for every guy to do something. And if anything, Jeanie is the crazy one starting fires in Neil’s life.
I don’t see where Madeline criticized Jean for getting turned into Jeanie. For being immature, yes. Madeline obviously doesn’t know the extent of Jeanie’s power, because I doubt they had time to go over a year’s worth of adventures, but she probably knows her brother better than anyone (even Neil). If Madeline does understand the genie/master relationship (she’s probably read more than law books), she would know that genies can be commanded to do things, so the context of her warning to be careful makes sense.
Neil and Jean have always had a user/doormat relationship. You only have to look at how Jean took advantage of Neil’s lack of forcefulness as depicted during the hotel scene. He’s a pushover. However, Neil seems to have been Jean’s only friend for reasons the story has not explained. Perhaps Neil lacked friends as well. In that regard, they complement each other.
I doubt Jean/Jeanie would actually do anything to hurt Neil, and I think Neil secretly enjoys the situations they get into, which may be why he doesn’t do anything to rein in Jeanie’s impulsiveness.
I agree with you there. Madeline has made a lot of assumptions in such a short time and it reflects worse on her then Jean.
Unfortunately there is some truth that jerks succeed and nice guys (or girls) don’t. Jeans ‘unique’ personality has resulted in her becoming the most powerful genie, and is a princess to boot. What do you get if it had been a ‘nice’ person that became a genie? Wish island, complete enslavement, and a very sad genie.
The sister has assumed that because she’s now a girl she’s no longer a jerk… that’s a deep rabbit hole to unpick. Madeline has no idea what life Jean has had that required her to hide. She’s being quite mean I think. Maybe Jean should turn her into a guy so she’d get a similar lesson too.
Madeline’s exact comment was “Maybe now that you’re a woman, you’ll learn what kind of jerk you’ve been.” I don’t believe that Madeline thinks Jean is no longer a jerk, just that he’s been on in the past.
Madeline seem rather quick to leap to preach at Jeanie and Neil without really understanding the full situation. For one thing she doesn’t realize a lot of men are jerks from self-protection because being otherwise gets them used and mocked by women and other men. There are also a lot of women who are jerks see the prom where they promptly tried to sabotage Jeanie’s date with Jean or Araceli trapping her in a bottle to steal her master because she wanted him.
Madeline will rent an apartment in the city to be near to that bottle. She will get the one across the hall from Rouyaa. Or did that get taken by Peaches and Cream?
Madeline wants that bottle to control Jeanie. She will need to stay close to it in order to grab it. If she can control Jean she gets three wishes. Head of the law firm-yacht- politican /// To her that bottle is a blank check, just fill in the amount. She can get anything she wants with the bottle until the third wish runs out.
If she gets the apartment opposite Rouyaa’s she will invite Neil over and he will meet Rouyss. Rouyaa will recoganize the discription of her bottle and track it down. Love triangle Neil rouyaa and the bottle. Love is in the air.
“Let me get this straight: You think that your brother, one of the most powerful beings in the world, is a genie living in a bottle that can turn you into a mewling infant with a mere thought, and you plan to enslave this person? Good luck.”
A lot of stupidity here, gang.
Madeline is giving Big Sister advice to her little sister. It’s good advice. She has no idea of Jeannie’s powers.
Since most of us are guys, we don’t really understand what being a woman in a world of men is like. Madeline does.
Well, except “She has no idea of Jeannie’s powers.” Jeanie made it clear that she’s a magical wish-granting genie, and used her powers of her own will to transform her clothes on the previous page. So Madeline can definitely deduce that Jeanie can perform magic on her own, without having to be wished to do it.
Thank you Robert.
I should’ve said “She has no idea of the extent of Jeannie’s powers.”
Commentators were launching off on weird tangents that I don’t think Madeline, meeting Jeannie for the first time, would even envision. (We know what she can do, and has done, but Madeline doesn’t.)

I’m not sure what you’re implying.

Paraphrasing Lucious Fox:
“Let me get this straight: You think that your brother, one of the most powerful beings in the world, is a genie living in a bottle that can turn you into a mewling infant with a mere thought, and you plan to enslave this person? Good luck.”
yup, that about somes it up. When she gets the bottle she will be in charge. she doesn’t understand that with Jeanie it always goes wrong.
A lot of stupidity here, gang.
