Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
Well, I think the rules state bottle Genies are all female from the chapter 1 and they can’t go back to being male we know Jean has tried. Plus, this form comes from how Jean sees what a genie in his mind.
Nah, genies can be any gender, or even no gender. The rule is that when a human is transformed into a genie, they take their own personal “ideal genie” form. Jean became an expy of Jeannie from IDOJ, because he and Neil had just finishing binging the entire show when he found the bottle. But Kazom mentions that he’d recently met several blue genies, referencing that several mortals had turned into Genie from Aladdin.
And Jeanie can’t turn back into her male form because changing one’s “core self” takes a lot of precise magical control, and only experience can provide that skill.
It’s a bit confusing because Kazom also says “It will never be permit[ed], this will always be your core self” which I took to mean Jean will never be able to actually alter her core self just disguise its appearance like Lahab disguises hers. Meanwhile Kazom himself is stuck as a cat because whatever killed Thomas Clark affected his core form.
A sister gonna do what a sister gotta do. And this situation has way too many possibilities to pass up. Going to take a couple of days to get through them all. And if she ever finds out female Jean had sex with male Jean, she may die laughing. All she has to do is ask Jean “How was it?”, and the look on Jean’s face will do it.
Well the time travel arc and Jeanie’s former past pretty much seems to confirm that Jean was destined to become a Genie.
He only became popular after scoring at prom, and the time travel arc to the past seemingly confirms that his date was his future self as Jeanie (before the whole alternate timelines happened issue was settled).
Just saw that Robert answered it for Brandon, but changing your core self requires lots of magical control; I’d say it’d be like the difference between playing a video game and coding a game. So eventually, Jeanie could change back into a man.
The problem is though, it’d likely take decades or centuries to do. So by the time Jeanie got that good, nobody would be around who remembers ‘Jean’.
There’s also the general sexism et al in genie culture. It was mentioned a while back that genies have a very old fashioned way of things, and change does not come quickly. It’s the whole reason Lahab encouraged Jean to keep her original identity a secret, and why Guano wasn’t really in the market for a wife. If Jeanie were to turn back into a man, it would likely cause numerous problems for everyone involved, including still being “married” to Guano.
finally a woman who doesn’t have hips wide enough to give birth to a 40 pound child and breasts to wet nurse 20 hungry new born babies. Madeline is gorgeous without being over the top.
Alex (yoga girl) is slim and not overly endowed (page 701). The coffee shop girl (page 705) might meet your expectations, too. Kendra was slim (page 302). So you see, not all the women have hips wide enough to give birth to a 40 pound child and breasts to wet nurse 20 hungry new born babies.
She expended some of it to give Rouyaa and Andy new lives that would last more than a few weeks (page 755). Of course, Jeanie had the combined power of probably several genies, not to mention Blue’s initial power. Still, I think practice is the key, and she hasn’t tried since that first attempt.
And Jeanie seems defensive at the suggestion that her hips are large. I think that’s a sure sign body image is more important to her than Jean would ever have thought.
Why wouldn’t Madeline accept The Truth?; Jean was infatuated with Barbara Eden. He wasn’t alone.
Just his luck he became the object of his desire.
Despite his discontent with the situation, he could have done a lot worse.
Every single male djinn we’ve seen has been stupid or an asshole or both.
The sole exception is the one who’s a cat.
Well, it wasn’t really what he did, it was more about where. But given the circumstances of the incident, Zoe has probably convinced herself by now that she had a hallucination or something.
I think if Jean sucked as a guy, since the same flaws would be carried over to her being a woman, she’d still suck but as a woman. Though a better choice of words might need to be applied…
Again, I wouldn’t want to keep pushing the buttons of someone who can basically and for the most part literally twist the rules and laws of nature to their any whim…..

Thanks for clarifying didn’t about the magic control.
Hey, Robert? Panel 3, it should be “INTO”, just one word.
It’s a bit confusing because Kazom also says “It will never be permit[ed], this will always be your core self” which I took to mean Jean will never be able to actually alter her core self just disguise its appearance like Lahab disguises hers. Neat, I assumed since the bottle was previously owned it made whoever became it’s next genie change to a template resembling it’s first owner.
No, because Jean isn’t the only Barbara Eden lookalike genie we’ve seen.
Ooh, the hits come hard and fast. No wonder Jean avoids her family.
Madeline is pushing it. Jean is going to get pissed and POOF. I hope Madeline knows how to pole dance.
Are there male pole dancers? I wouldn’t be surprised, I’m just wondering.
Also, Maddie is clearly . . . not scared of her brother’s anger. it may be she’s just that dominant.
I never had a sister, so I’ll defer to those who do.
Other than that, fair point.
Fight! Fight! TNT!
Looks like that last question scored a direct hit, given Jeanie’s stunned expression in the last panel.
That was an “armor-piercing question” in TV Tropes terms.
(And perhaps it explains why her attempts to turn back have always failed, given, IIRC, it’s about core identity.)
Well the time travel arc and Jeanie’s former past pretty much seems to confirm that Jean was destined to become a Genie.

Or alternatively “So do you get now why you had no luck with women before you were one little sister?”
Which begs the question, was late-night DJ Jean’s real future, or did Jeanie go back in time and sleep with him create this, alternate timeline?
Panel two cracked me up, but the zinger in p4 was even better. 🙂
Agreed!
I hope one day there’s a genie based on Shantae’s model…I love that model 😛
Jeanie’s expression in panel #4 “Oh no, you didn’t sis ”
Someone is about to debut at the strip club
Looks like there’s a lot of filler explanation coming…unless Jean gets fed up and does something.

jean DOES have an exorbitant amount of magic power now; changing her base form shouldn’t be too hard.
She expended some of it to give Rouyaa and Andy new lives that would last more than a few weeks (page 755). Of course, Jeanie had the combined power of probably several genies, not to mention Blue’s initial power. Still, I think practice is the key, and she hasn’t tried since that first attempt.
How is actual Rouyaa by the way? Still in the bottle?
No. She got out. https://jeaniebottle.com/?comic=jeanie-bottle-759
Woo-hoo!
How’d I forget that?
Wait, wasn’t she in a bottle on the floor?
Nope, she was not. Drat.
I think it comes down to experience and technique not raw power. Also mental aptitude.
Will Maddy get sent to the strip club? Maybe
Will she come back and beat Jeanie into a bloody pulp for doing that? Definitely.
Getting into a fight against someone who can turn you into a slug with a thought is never a good idea
It is my understanding that it changed her to resemble the first thing Jeanie thought of when they thought of a genie.
I’m betting Jean hasn’t even Considered trying to change her form in a long time.
She also seems pretty defensive about her hips/puffy pants.
“THE PANTS ARE PUFFY!”
I love it.
It is a good line.
They ARE puffy.
And Jeanie seems defensive at the suggestion that her hips are large. I think that’s a sure sign body image is more important to her than Jean would ever have thought.
Or more than Jean would have admitted. >.>
Tol’ya. Close questooning. And mean. Your Neilship! I object, she’s badgering the defendant. I presume she’d also fox and eagle her if she could.
She could even be lioned or tigered or beared, oh my!
Why wouldn’t Madeline accept The Truth?; Jean was infatuated with Barbara Eden. He wasn’t alone.

Madeline: You sucked as a guy.
Jeanie, totally pissed off: You try it, then.
Poof! And Madeline’s a guy.
Hah!
The real Rouyaa would make a good girlfriend for Neil.
Hm. Let’s see – she’s now young(ish) again, mortal, yet knows all about magic and genies. You’re right, perfect mix.
Now, where is she? Still back at the old apartment complex? How could we get her together with Neil?
I don’t know. Maybee Robert could help. Neil needs a girlfriend. After what Zoe saw him do with Jeanie on the space shuttle she may not want him back.
Well, it wasn’t really what he did, it was more about where. But given the circumstances of the incident, Zoe has probably convinced herself by now that she had a hallucination or something.
I wonder how NASA explained the pink bra when the shuttle came back.
Part of the emergency equipment.

And also reality and Time.
