Jeanie Bottle 852
Synthesizing Jean’s quick outburst into the correct conclusion that quickly? Madeline is one sharp cookie.
I’m guessing she ultimately graduated from the the Law School program she mentioned being in the middle of, back on prom night.
Well, Jean’s sister is taking this pretty well so far. Next would be their parents’ reaction.
Jean’s parents are an enigma. No one has even mentioned them except in passing and they weren’t home for Jean (and Jeanie’s) prom night. One gets the impression they aren’t close
At least Jean has the same shape as her sister now. The sister being a lot sharper mentally than Jean. I wonder if they well tell her that Neil is the master. She would be laughing at that.
The told you so’s will never end.
Wait until she realizes Jean’s breasts are bigger.
Jean, you will have to turn Madeline into neil to convence her it was magic. Maddie is jealous, Jen is a lot bigger than she is.
HAH, that’s a hilarious idea.
I think that there are plenty of other demonstrations of magic that could suffice, but yeah, a quick gender-change ‘poof’ would certainly settle things.
Now, getting Madeline to keep her mouth shut about this will be a whole different magnitude of probem.
Jean could turn Neil into Natalie then the three of them go for a “girl’s night out.”
Yeah, after this, I’m sure Madeline could stand a stiff drink or eight.
Wait till Madeline learns she is not only engaged/married, but also technically pregnant. Boy is that going to be an interesting conversation….
Nothing, Maddy, nothing will make Jean mature. Just ask any of Jean’s many victims, accidental or otherwise.
You’re only young once… but you can be immature forever.
Wait until she learns Jean is a real life genie! Will she try to take advantage of that and try to take Jeanie’s bottle and make some wishes?
That would certainly be interesting!
Wait until she learns who Jean’s date for the prom was. And what happened next, assuming Jen hadn’t already told her from his side of things.
She KNOWS that Jeanie was Jean’s date. She may even cite that as a reason to believe that the two are separate people. Otherwise, she’s going to want to know how that date was possible.
It probably helps that Madeline would recognize Jean with a higher voice.
I find this to be a believable level of incredulity, based on what Madeline has seen and expects.
Jean’s reactions definitely fit Madeline’s expectations, despite Jean somehow being a woman now.
“You sigh, the song begins, you speak, and I hear violins, it’s magic…”
“Carrots are divine, you get a dozen for a dime. It’s magic…”
Incidentally, the Rudd Productions and Pixie Ranger links are suddenly in Spanish.
Do not get Jeannie mad. You know how much self contro she has. what could go wrong. She could swap bodies with madeline. Besides, Jean has bigger boobs and a better butt that Madeline. Reference panels one and two.
I wonder if there is any significance to the Back to the Future 1.21 Gigawatts poster on the wall.
Well there was a Star Wars poster on the other wall. I guess they just like movies.
Well, they HAVE done some time travelling.
There have been other various posters to webcomics or SF/Fantasy movies in past strips, so perhaps it is just a nod to those.
If Jean gets the mind to, will she turn Madeline into a guy and send her to a male strip club? Or just put her in the harem outfit and send her to that one she sent Nat to? Actually, now that I think about it, they moved a couple times, didn’t they? They probably aren’t near that strip club anymore.
Neil may have moved twice. Initially, he seemed to be living in an apartment (although it looked more like a dorm, page 55-60), which Jeanie moved into a pocket dimension (page 67) inside her apartment.
At some point, Neil moved into a house with the three stoners (as shown on page 615).
Jeanie time-traveled and bought Neil a house (what a good genie she is, always thinking about her Master), and they moved in (page 718).
All of these residences appear to be in Cocoa Beach.
… as if distance to that strip club mattered.
You took the words right out of my mouth.
That would be a twist.
I don’t think Jean would put her own sister into a sexualised situation. Not out of any concern for her dignity but just because it’s gross.
Check out Jeans’ closed-in body language in panels 3 and 4. That’s a solid fear of rejection right there. There’s been hints here and there that Madeline is the golden child, but she’s familiar enough with their living situation to drop in and apparently on good terms with Neil. I’m betting the last thing Jean wants is to alienate the only family she seems close to.
I can’t find any indication that Madaline knows anything about Jean’s living situation. In fact, this is the first indication that the siblings have been in contact since graduation.
Arms crossed across the chest is a defensive posture that might indicate unease or insecurity. We know that Jean used bravado as a means of coping back in high school; perhaps insecurity was the underlying reason.
Madeline apparently knew that this house was where Jean was living, otherwise she would not be messaging Jean and not Neil about dropping in, though she might not have known that Neil was living there as well until he answered the door.
Madeline probably does get the most praise from parents/other relatives—she is a lawyer, while Jean in the timelines that we have seen has been either a magazine/book reviewer, or a radio disk jockey.
Womanhood couldn’t. What’s the term? Chronically enfeebled?
To be fair to her, Magic isn’t an answer.
I think CD’s art is improving so cool
So, is Madeline gonna point out that Jeanie looks exactly like his/her prom date?
The question now is: Did Neil spill the beans or did Maddie figure it out from Jeanie’s freakout.
Did Madeline actually poke Jean in the boob in panel one or was she just pointing?
Looks like Madeline has found out about Jean’s transformation and is taking this situation and transition surprisingly well.
But I have the feeling that she doesn’t quite believe that her now-sister has magical powers and is a real life genie.
She should also probably and considerably watch what she says considering that Jean can now basically manipulate and bend the laws of nature and reality to her any whim….
What would be the proper thing to turn a lawyer into. Rat, Shark, Possum, Leach?
Politician.
There’s an old English folksong that tells about a shark that wouldn’t eat a lawyer out of professional courtesy.
Seriously, Jeanie loves Madeline enough that any transformation she does will be relatively harmless. She could change Madeline’s clothes into a harem costume. She could change Neil into a double of her former self (what she was planning to do before Madeline found her out) or into Natalie or even into a double of her current self. Or she could physically change Madeline, either into a double of Jenie or into a male version of herself
No animal forms.
There’s a disconnect in thinking that Madeline knows that Jeanie and Jean are the same person.
Jeanie is supposed to resemble Barbara Eden from the show, Jean’s idealized image of a genie. It’s a huge stretch to assume that Madeline would instantly conclude that the woman in front of her is Jean (panel 1). Madeline must have heard Jeanie’s exclamation on the previous page, but even that wouldn’t be sufficiently convincing to make her disbelieve her eyes.
Probably, but I personally like the idea that Neil told her. She’s a lawyer, close questioning is kind of her thing. Besides, long shots get lonely when you don’t back them from time to time.
Jean’s figure and clothing resemble Barbara Eden’s genie costume, but Jean’s face looks enough like her old self that Neil told her she looked like her sister way back in comic 270.
You’re correct, which still doesn’t make much sense. Jehane is a dead ringer for Jeanie (page 451, panel 3), having the same inspiration, and there would be no reason for her to resemble Madeline.
Yeah, but that comment from Neil only happened AFTER Jeannie was trying to transform back into his old appearance, and only managed to get about halfway. So there would have been a distinct difference.
Could be over time Jeanie’s features slowly changed from Barbara Eden’s face to looking more like a feminised Jean.
Prediction: Jean turns Neil into Natalie to demonstrate magic. Maddy finds out how often Jean does this. Maddy rips Jean a new one for doing that.
Madeline has better posture than Jean, she’s sharper and more mature. She is Jean’s sister, she might want to try to rescue Jean… Is that even a possibility?
That would end the story, so NO its not possible
What makes you think she’d have any greater success than Neil? Neil is after all an engineer… Unless Neil wasn’t really trying?
I seriously doubt there is anyway to rescue Jean at this point, but Madeline may be able to help Jeannie to be more accepting of her female self.
Although, over the last year or two (our time, not Jeannie’s) she does seem to have become a lot more comfortable with her situation.
The neckline on Madeline’s T-top keeps changing. I like the one in panel 4 the best.
Still think madeline is gonna recognize Jean from prom (you don’t tend to fully forget someone who doesn’t show up in a photo you personally took)
