Chapter: Story 18: I Dream of... Jeannie
Ahhh, Jeanie’s fabled sister! She’s been mentioned once or twice, but until now has only appeared in the past.
Now the question is: did Jeanie just spill the beans, or had Neil already told her?
Neil, think couger!!!
Madeline is still no more than thirty, so she’s not quite a Cougar yet.
Hmm, since she was in law school six years previously, then she should be practicing law by now. What category of attorney is she? Corporate? Family law? Prosecution? Defense?
“she’s not quite a Cougar yet” – You never know, she might have gone to WSU. (the Cougars)
Not everyone with a law degree winds up as a practicing attorney. She might be clerking for a judge, for instance.
She seemed mean the last time we saw her. I’m guessing whatever field of law allows her to rip the still-beating heart out of her opponant’s chest and eat it raw. Corporate law? She could be a general council for a university.
99% of the time, texting is a fast and reliable form of communication. Unfortunately, 99% reliable is not 100% reliable.
It’s reasonably reliable, but it’s a store-and-forward technology, and sometimes the forwarding process can be enormously delayed, by many hours in some cases.
Also, Jeanie may not have checked her phone for as much as three or four hours due to the beach playtime.
Texting is only as reliable as the people doing it. Communication requires both sides to understand.
Once Madeline finds out — or now that she knows — I wonder if she’s going to want to help Jeanie get more in touch with her feminine side, maybe even to admit her feelings about Neil to both Neil and herself.
I am in favor of any scenario in which Madeline gets the idea that Jeanie wants to be female/feminine, despite the latter’s protests.
I think she’ll be more interested in when her sister became a girl.
She’ll probably want to take Jeannie shopping for some cuter clothes.
Jeanie can get out of this predicament easily; she could just go back to the time of the previous strip’s first three panels, wait for her “teen” self to go into the women’s room to change, and give herself a head’s up that her sister is with Neil. Of course, if that happened, she’d almost certainly walk out the door moments after her younger self did and immediately collide with Nif and find herself with a new set of problems.
Jeannie has a seemingly endless ability to screw up any scenario, no matter how simple it may appear. Which is why we love her.
