Asha is a genie who lives in LA, masquerading as a human Pop Star. Since her last master died before asking for his final wish, and being buried with Asha's Bottle. Haji has granted Asha the ability to stay in the human world without returning to her bottle.
Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
In her role as Haji's First, Lahab leads Haji's Harem. She is a Jann genie, one of the few elementals left in the world. She and Kazom are "old friends".
So, the first Wives are the true rules. And Asha life becomes more difficult thanks to Lahab you owe her big Jean. Now who tell Araceli the bad and good news later?
NO not generally, but it depends on the woman in question. Many queens managed to be the de facto ruler by manipulating their husbands. Having constant access to the king, and being the only one with the legal right to sleep in the same bed as him, gave strong women many advantages. Especially if the king himself was a weak man.
some queens like Margrete the first of Scandinavia or Irene of the Byzantine empire managed to even trancend the de facto rulership and became the de jura ruler too, but most queens were satisfied with having a man as their front
It can go the other way too, I recall a true crime magazine I read decades ago that listed a case where the husband was basically controlled by the woman to murder his wife. They got caught via the first radio telegram to a ship when they were leaving the country and he was relieved to be caught as he couldn’t handle the strain.
And given that Guano is something of a doofus, as Lahab has just demonstrated, he can be steered with the right words. When Guano succeeds Haji, Jeanie will essentially be the Queen in all but name.
If anyone still thinks Lahab hasn’t already helped Jehane after they learned that Blue had framed her, check out the implications of what she said in panel 8.
1: Ifta looks genuinely worried in panels 4 & 5
2: The pink color is returning to Jeanie’s top.
3: I’m a bit confused about Jeanie being sent back to her master, but Lahab then saying she’ll be spending a lot of time with Jeanie, which seems to imply Jeanie will be in the palace for a while (unless Lahab also goes with Jeanie back to Neil/Natalie, of course. Hey, vacation for Lahab!).
So Ifta is now the stand-in princess. Poor kid. Oh well, what could go wrong. When Jeanie returns to Earth she will have to find Neil and she and Lahab can fix everything on Natalie’s Island. that is if they can wake Araceli up.
Strangely, Guano’s vest/jacket didn’t turned white like it normally would like Jeanie’s top in close proximity as they’re mystically linked. Is there a reason for that?
It must be the sash that changed. When Jeanie was introduced as princess on page 779, her ugly green gown didn’t change color, but she wore a white sash that matched Guano’s
I note that in the last panel, Jeannie has also lost her shading.
Poor Ifta, being mistaken for an experienced genie due to wearing someone else’s body.
I further note that while “your master” has been said repeatedly, nowhere was said master’s name mentioned, which could lead to other shenanigans. (Yes, it could be just a djinn prejudice, but it’s still worrisome.)
Genies don’t tend to refer to their masters by their given names. Just seems to be their custom. It’s always “my master this” and “your master that”, never calling them Bob or Tina or Joe. Kind of like calling the commander of a ship, “Captain”, rather than ‘Harry’. I don’t think it means any more than that. (Shrug)
I’m not discounting that, and yes, genies (indeed many types of servants) tend to do that when using a personal name isn’t needed.
My observation was from a storytelling perspective. There’s been nothing to indicate Jeannie and the other genies are talking about the same person when they refer to her master…
Will we ever see Haji in the flesh? Everyone keeps talking about him, but still no sign of the leader of all the genies. You’d think that Jeanie would be forced to meet with him at some point, since she will eventually be Guano’s wife once the succession is complete.

As the old saying goes: behind every powerful man, there’s a powerful woman. it’s a historical truth/fact.
Only nowadays it’s more like: Behind every rich old man there’s a strong woman that he ditched for a Hooter’s waitress.
Women certainly like to say that, yes. Doesn’t really account for how a large chunk of often more successful men are either gay or aromantic.
That doesn’t mean that their partner doesn’t influence them.
Just make sure his wife doesn’t find out.

Guano lets her keep thinking that, yes. Because it’s cheaper that way.
Men may be the head of the house, but the women are the neck, and the head goes where ever the neck turns it.
And given that Guano is something of a doofus, as Lahab has just demonstrated, he can be steered with the right words. When Guano succeeds Haji, Jeanie will essentially be the Queen in all but name.
Well, that settles that. Now back to Natalie’s Island…
Yessssssss!
I do not like Asha, and I don’t think Guano likes Asha either. This is exactly what I wanted.
This is the way.
If anyone still thinks Lahab hasn’t already helped Jehane after they learned that Blue had framed her, check out the implications of what she said in panel 8.
Yeah, yeah, the reason is two panels of jeanie politics…
1: Ifta looks genuinely worried in panels 4 & 5
2: The pink color is returning to Jeanie’s top.
3: I’m a bit confused about Jeanie being sent back to her master, but Lahab then saying she’ll be spending a lot of time with Jeanie, which seems to imply Jeanie will be in the palace for a while (unless Lahab also goes with Jeanie back to Neil/Natalie, of course. Hey, vacation for Lahab!).
3) Lahab can always poof in to wherever Jeannie is, for a quick tutoring session. Being a genie really simplifies logistics.
Jeanie’s and Guano’s tops become matching white whenever they are together so Jeanie’s top shading back to pink means Guano has left.
So Ifta is now the stand-in princess. Poor kid. Oh well, what could go wrong. When Jeanie returns to Earth she will have to find Neil and she and Lahab can fix everything on Natalie’s Island. that is if they can wake Araceli up.
I like the white more

And don’t you forget it.

Well. It seems that genie society is more similar to human society than we had previously believed.
lol I like Lahab.
She’s a real sharp cookie.
Seems Jeanie is going to be getting some lessons in how to deal with men from a woman’s perspective in the future.
Which she could certainly stand to have.
Will we ever see Haji in the flesh? Everyone keeps talking about him, but still no sign of the leader of all the genies. You’d think that Jeanie would be forced to meet with him at some point, since she will eventually be Guano’s wife once the succession is complete.
He either looks like Fabio or Jabba the Hut.
Or Pizza the Hutt.
When Guano becomes Haji, is probably when we’ll meet the old guy for the first and last time.
The last panel doesn’t have shading?
