Chapter: Story 17: I Dream of Home Sweet Home

By the way, this is a rare double-post because CD originally drew page 818 earlier, and wasn’t sure if he’d have time to finish 819 before the election. He did manage to do so, tho, so you get a double page today.
Yean Jean made sure Shula knew she couldn’t vote being a non-American and if Shula can vote should do the proper research on both candidates before making any choices.
Technically, she COULD vote, but only for a Democrat. (I know, Bad Joke)
I can see “Why” you did this, though I think it would have been more interesting if they did it for Kamala. Since she would be the first female Haji in this situation.
Kamala doesn’t have roving bands of supporters who set up impromptu rallies to show slavish support for their candidate like Trump does.
This comic is based on an experience that CD and I had in Florida back in early 2020, when we did the Cocoa Beach meetup. So yes, this kind of group actually exists in a lot of places.
So the idea for this comic came from the LAST election time period.
Robert and I were in Florida (for the meet and greet in Cocoa Beach). I passed by a group showing there support for Trump. As I walked by (Robert crossed the street instead of going by the rally) they asked me who I was supporting and instantly started listing all reasons why I should vote for Trump. They kept talking and didn’t pause till after they’ve gone through most of there list. Being the nice Canadian I waited till I had a moment to speak without interrupting them.
When they finally paused long enough for me to respond, I said something along the lines of, “I can’t vote in the election, because I’m Canadian.” At that point they started yelling at me for “wasting there time”.
They didn’t throw shit at you, though, did they?

Name a subgroup of Americans, and they hate them enough to do far worse than throw things at them (and have).
Pretty much every American is on their hate list…

There is literally not a single group they don’t hate.

Those were not milkshakes. They were “milkshakes”. The actual content was a toxic brew and they were dumped mostly on police who were trying to contain the rioters. I live close to Seattle. Not by choice, mind you.

CD, Trump got about 58% of the vote. By modern standards, that’s pretty decisive. Not quite as overwhelming as Reagan, back in the 80s, who got 97.8%, but that was an almost-unique exception. Usually US elections are decided much more closely. So, yeah, it was about as close to overwhelming as things get.
If you think Trump is in ANY way a “good guy”, you are willfully blind.

For a huge amount of us, Trump wasn’t what pulled us to vote for him. It was the years of the in-your-face smug arrogant hostility and open and obvious lying by those like you everywhere we go online.

Um, no Rando22, committing voter fraud has been accused every election no matter who won. 4/5 times it was found to be true, it was a democrat and 3 of those times they did not get removed from office, while the other candidate, rep or otherwise, was always removed.

Why are the media trying to say that Trump can’t take office in January because this would be his third term then? Why did none of the people who delivered a sworn affidavit in court that election tampering happen in 2020 never go to jail? That is a federal felony if they lied.
So Ifta has held up traffic, Alya forced Jeanie to pay for the jewelry she walked off with, and Shula has managed to join, and then get kicked off, a Trump pack. And poor Jeanie is stuck being in charge of this group of misfits.

Making accusations are easy. Presenting PROOF is hard.
I’m thinking of this about this from a different angle. The timeline. The pandemic was mentioned as having happened a few storylines back—not happening but happened. So that suggests at least 2021, probably 2022. The pandemic affected Jeanie’s online job, I think. Something about her life—already HER life at that point—was changed by the pandemic. At bare minimum, some of the comic had to have happened before 2020. The comic, in reality, started around 15 years ago, but the pandemic was the first clear historical event—that I can remember—that was mentioned as being part of the story’s history. Now we have people holding Trump signs. There have been people doing that since the last election, so it doesn’t inherently mean its 2024 in the comic. But if this is supposed to be near the 2024 election, that would stretch how long Jeanie has been female and a genie into over five years. Even though I don’t believe it’s supposed to be that long.
Not a big problem in a story like this—not even close—but I can’t help but notice it. Still, I’m here for fun, and I am having fun.
Of course, lots of long-running comics end up with things like that. Peter Parker/Spider-Men had an adventure with the original cast of Saturday Night Live when they were all on the show and… well… living. Even though SNL is 50 years old now, and Peter’s stuck at around 30.

Hm, being able to climb walls WOULD be cool, and I could certainly use the upper-body-strength boost. But wearing a mask is a drag, and it really screws with your makeup.

Hey, I’ve celebrated turning 39 . . . um . . . 32 times now!
Magneto is holocaust survivor. It’s so core part of his identity no author dared to change that. It makes him around 90 now. Meanwhile, Batman … well, originally the movie he was seeing before his parents were murdered was The Mark of Zorro (1920 or remake 1940). It was updated to Zorro, The Gay Blade (1981) in Joker.
The fact that this comic is 15 years old now means that CD could release a special drawing: I Dream of a Jeanie Bottle—Fifteen Years Later. Imagine, Jeanie in the 15 Years Later harem outfit—which I knew he drew on the Patreon, once. And she can stand next to a man in Neil’s clothes who looks like Wayne Rogers.
CD has stated that Jeanie Bottle exists on a sliding timescale. When he started it in 2009, the story was set in 2009. And so, as the story progresses, it continues to be set in “now”, much like The Simpsons.
Given the pandemic stuff in the earlier story, it would fit for this to be the 2020 election in this comic.
Which would put the story almost in line with the anniversaries of Belle’s birthday.
Jean found the bottle while looking for a gift for Belle and was reborn (born again?) as Jeanie. This was (I believe) confirmed on Discord. Later, Jeanie zapped Alex during the Three Wishes arc and bumped into Belle at the Coffee Bean with her new boyfriend. Again, her birthday was implied.
In between we have Haji’s birthday during the I Dream of a Promotion arc and the COVID reference during the Timey Wimey arc (which would have been 2020-21). Using only these reference points, we can surmise (notice I didn’t say “assume”) that Jean has been Jeanie a little more than a year.
Two things can alter this estimate. 1) Belle has had other birthdays that went unmentioned. 2) Haji doesn’t celebrate his birthday annually, maybe only on Leap Years or just when he feels like it (he has bicentennial galas, why not birthdays?).
I have to say I’m very disappointed that CD decided to go political. One of many reasons I read webcomics is to escape from the nonstop barrage of political campaigning and all the nonsense from both sides.
Please, please stop. Normally I look forward to Tuesdays and a new episode of this comic, but now it’s just another place to see people hate each other.

I had this planned for a while now. I was going to have the first comic, which is more pro-Trump, and the next comic, which is a bit more favoring the other side. But since it fell on election week, I figured I better put both of them out if I could.
Compared to some other comics, this is quite tame and neutral.
Another example of how Ifta is more feminine than expected. Her first comment to Alya is “I like your armlet!” Women notice jewelry immediately whereas men might only notice it if asked about it.
Well, we already knew genies were pretty stupid.
Slula is acknowledged to be more deranged than most.
Even the strip’s character list describes her as (crazy).

Wow… what a GasLight. Twice over too. Have you never seen a foreign election? I have. I was on the street for them in three different countries, through the navy. Throwing shit at you in Iraqi elections is the absolute least you can expect. And you’d have to be really unlucky to find a trump group who would do so. And pretty easy to find an antifa group who would.

So, with all the left wing Trump Derangement Syndrome going on here, I’m going to enjoy a bit of schadenfreude. Also, going into the future ( heheh) I’m also going to enjoy how all those left claims of what President Trump will do to destroy America will be proven false. Watch how interest rates will start to fall within a year. All you prospective home owners start shopping around.
Technically, interest rates have been steadily declining worldwide for the past year. A severe drop would in the short term be nice, but long-term it would hurt and cause problems for the global economy. Remember, the USA isn’t the only country suffering from high interest rates post-COVID. Most of the world (especially the 1st world countries) have been in an economic hole since COVID due to many factors including stimulus packages, and various government using there capital to hold the world together during the pandemic. Hopefully the Trump nah-sayers will be wrong and things will turn out well. But I can promise not everything that happens worldwide will be solely because Trump won the American presidency.
Of course it won’t be. But that’s what the pundits will hue and cry about for the next 4 years definitely, the next 30, if I don’t miss my guess. I mean, they’re still blaming gamer-gate for shit 12 years later, McCarthy 70 years later, Margret Thatcher 30 years later and the specter of fascism for stuff with 0 relation almost 80 years later.
