Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
Ifta isn’t confused. She’s taking all that honking as a sign of homage. Like when a British Royal rides down the street in a car. The Royal does just the same sort of wave in panels 3 and 4.
Correct, it’s Kiran. I have to admit that he’s taking the culture shock of his situation in stride. Also, he seems to have adapted to being female rather well, with none of that “where’re my man parts” nonsense. Of course, he’s had a “year” (Kiran’s words) to get all of that out of his system. Perhaps Shula underestimated the power of a totem to assimilate a human into a genie.
So basically, from Ifta’s POV, she has had about the same amount of time to accept that she is now female, just like Jeanie, and, IMO, Jeanie appears to have accepted it as well.
Jeanie still talks about once being human, but she rarely mentions that she was male then.
That’s true. You could be correct. Kiran told Jeanie the story, right? I don’t remember. If so, Jeanie probably already suspects Kiran’s body is dead just from the shear amount of time that has passed since s/he was bottled up, but is waiting for proof.
What I am saying, she’s not that forward thinking. If she suspected, she would have blurted it out.
I mean, if you were stuck for hundreds of years inside of a bottle like she was, you’d definitely end up with your mind blown and a heck of a lot of culture shock.
Well. yes and no, remember the guy who is now Ifta lived in the Victorian era some 130 years ago. Cars existed, but only the uber wealthy had them. Big cities existed, but he lived in the Middle-East where the only large buildings were mosques and palaces or government centers. So yes this will be hugely overwhelming, but not totally new concepts to her.
I was pointing out the one thing that did not exist then were skyscrapers. If I remember correctly, the first “skyscraper” over ten stories was the Flatiron building in New York built in 1902. I am not including things like the Eiffel tower, the Washington Monument, or the Statue of Liberty as people did not live or work in them.
True. And Kiran would have known about really tall structures, he lived in Egypt and has the pyramids as an example. Obviously not at tall as the 85-story Panorama Tower in Miami, but the Great Pyramid is nothing to sneeze at.
He lived in Cairo, the largest city in Africa.
Today over 10 million people call the city its own, but but at the turn of the century it still had almost 600 thousand, so a a pretty large city even back then
This comic is really suffering from the one upload a week.
Waiting 7 days just to watch two characters cross a road, and knowing it will be another week until the next one doesn’t make for the most compelling story that hooks people.
This is a great point. I love all of the extras that come on the Patreon, but I was so hoping that the success of that campaign would allow a return to the Tuesday/Thursday updates.
I’m not sure JB has ever updated on Tuesday *and* Thursday with any regularity. There were a handful of one-off weeks like that, but that’s it as far as I recall.
If I had been Jeannie I would have taken her to Cairo. She needs to ease her way back into the world, which would help if she were in a city she remembered.
Sure Cairo 2024 is not the same as Cairo 1898 and also have a lot of cars, but I am sure there would be some buildings that she can remember.
From my experience having been stationed for a year in Sicily – if you handcuffed both hands of their hands to the wheel, most Italians wouldn’t be able to drive.

For Ifta not only a new life a new time it’s a lot to take in all at once.
Ifta isn’t confused. She’s taking all that honking as a sign of homage. Like when a British Royal rides down the street in a car. The Royal does just the same sort of wave in panels 3 and 4.
Oh, jolly good!
Excellent insight! I’d completely missed that.
Wait.. we’re not supposed to do that?

Kiran doesn’t yet know that Ifta was killed while in his body (technically none of them know that)
As far as he knows, this is still a temporary thing, so might as well go along for the ride

I think it’s more like “I hear geese, but I don’t see geese.”
It’s not Ifta!
It’s official—she has an appearance that will stop traffic.
Glad we’re back to this story, the whole “Neil gets forced to be a woman” thing really hasn’t been that interesting lately.
Hey! I’m walkin’ heah!
I love how you’ve implemented the accent.
I just love how Jeanie is reacting to this. Now I guess she knows how it feels to have to be the only one with common sense in the group.

I was adding an edit an it cut me off.

Actually, he lived in Luxor.
So his main hobby was shooting colored marbles at others in a line to make them disappear.
That doesn’t make sense.
Luxor Las Vegas.

Jeanie still missing two other people. Plus with all the shenanigans going on with the boat. Probably will see a decernable shift probably by Easter.

The only thing you can do about that is read other web comics. Or maybe get enough patron $people that CD Rudd can quit his day job.
“Thank you, thank you, you’ve been a lovely audience. I’ll be appearing tomorrow at the Fontainbleau.”

Cairo 2024 is also noisy.
I have surmised that the car engines only work if the driver is beeping the horn.
From my experience having been stationed for a year in Sicily – if you handcuffed both hands of their hands to the wheel, most Italians wouldn’t be able to drive.
If you hands had hands, and they were handcuffed, that would be a problem.
I think there is an episode of Initial D where they race cars like that.
It’s more like cars are invisible to other drivers unless the horn is sounding.
I’m surprised she didn’t just take everyone to Cocoa Beach.
You’d have taken her to Illinois? Gad, why?
😉
Southern Illinois is rather scenic.
Particularly if you enjoy endless cornfields.
Does this look like an endless cornfield?

Now we just have to find the other two and go to coco beach to keep them out of trouble.
I bet all the people in those cars are thinking “Tourists…”
Well, evidently, Ifta has hearing loss. I’d be startled by a car horn that close even if I didn’t know what it meant.
The one in that red Grand Cherokee must be pissed in spades.
I like Jeannie Deadpool
Deadpool never looked that good. Nice banner. Happy Holloween.
Jeanpool! 🙂
That does it! You, Robert! Out of the gene pool!
Is that Pixie Ranger David’s little slime creature holding up the tomestone.
So many skills we take for granted.
Lady pool this Halloween season.
