Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
But Blue capturing Asha doesn’t really jive with her then being found, unconscious, in her own apartment. So it seems to be some kind of plot that Blue is pulling. But who knows what.
@Mike: “two days ago, jeanie bottle time.”
But is that the same as how much time Jeanie herself experienced while in Blue’s control?
[Thanks for the pointer to 467, though, and the reminder that only two days have passed in-comic. I have a hard time keeping track of time, even in my own life.]
I think it’s just perspective. Her arm looks insanely thin because it’s still partly covered by her breast bulging out the side some as normal, and the blanket. If you look at it the right way it looks normal, as if the majority of the arm is simply out of view.
I’ll bet Jean is now regretting that she never poofed some real permanent clothes for Natalie after Neil asked her to do so. Not that that is her main concern right now.
Since she was amusing herself at Natalie’s expense at the time (remember the lingerie Rodge found?) I doubt anthing she made back then would appeal to her now.
I’ve got to say, she makes that sheet look great. Again, though, not the effect she likely wants. A schlumpy sweatshirt and pants would be her speed.
Yeah, well I’m old enough to have watched “I Dream of Jeannie” before it was ever a rerun, and also old enough to have forgotten all of the details of it. (I even had to Google the spelling!)
I’m constantly amazed at how much the author and the commenters here know about that show!
Why can’t Neil return to the apartment? Remember that Jean used her magic to put Neils apartment inside his/her larger apartment? Since Jean is without her magic now, maybe the magic that made that topological contradiction has gone away, too–along with the apartment!
Remember, by all intends and purposes, Blue IS Jean now, we still don’t know the details (I personally think he made this human body for Jean, just the same Kazom did for ghost Jeanie before), but her original body, with all her magic, plus the magic Blue has stolen, is still around. And, I guess that in one hand Blue may keep the apartment has his lair for now, and he thinks Neil is dead by now, so Jean may want to prevent Blue to finding out. Unfortunate, this means that claiming her bottle back may not be an option for now.
Because, that probably where the Blue Djinn is currently hanging out at. That would be my guess and Jean or Jeanie is trying to warn Neil not to go back to his apartment, but, if Neil is going to do something like get cloth for Jeanie or do something about the Blue Djinn, that where he going to have to go and take his chances with the Blue Djinn and what ever he might do to him. Because, that where both Jeanie bottle is and the lamp that belong to the Blue Djinn is or at least was the last time we saw them.
I’m curious how Christina A. aka Asha the Genie could be the popular singer and celebrity without breaking this Law of the Great Djinn: “Genies are unable to be photographed or filmed” ?
The TV Jeannie, tried to use a manicane, but, something happened to it and all we see is Neil talking to his invisible girl.
Me guess, is that she artificial body that she uses that can be photographed in place of her real body that can’t be photographed. That my best guess as to how she doing it.
But the pronunciation usually changes. “Yea” rhymes with “nay”, and is formal, even legalistic, as in the context of a voice vote. [The celebratory exclamation “Yay!” is pronounced the same, but with happy emphasis.) “Yeah” is casual to the point of careless, and is pronounced “eeyah”.
Robert,
I was going to disagree with 50srefugee, but I looked it up in the dictionary, 50srefugee is correct.
Yea; pronounced Yay means Yes.
Yeah; pronounced like you think. I don’t know how to type the weird symbols.
Yay; pronounced Yay means a cheer.
I am very much hoping Neil gets to be, if not the hero, then at least of use. He’s a fairly high end aerospace engineer working on a Mars rover project, so he’s no dummy, and has a certain amount of grit.
I’d really like it if he earns his genie’s respect.
He’s been reading the manual–has he learned anything that might be useful?
Likely not. Fixing people is an extremely tricky business, If Neil can stop Blue and help restore Jeanie to her own body and powers, that would at least give her the space she needs to heal on her own, if she can. A lot depends on exactly what she’s experienced.
One of the very trickiest things about this sort of situation (whatever the situation actually is) is that the helping person can’t do too much. Otherwise, the victim becomes dependent on and very possibly resentful of her healer.
Broken people pretty much MUST fix themselves if they are ever to regain any self respect.
And yet, having the RIGHT person do the RIGHT things can be absolutely essential to the healing process. Like I say, it’s a tricky deal.
You cannot “fix” people. You can do things that promote healing, or things that do not. However, Jean warning Neil not to return to their apartment may be a sign that she is finally, finally starting to care about someone else.
As for the apartment within an apartment situation? I don’t recall CD ever signalling that a genie has to remain powered to sustain any magic done. Otherwise all of the things Rouyah and Eevie did for their masters would have been reversed when they were depowered.
The Blue Dijnn told Arcailli the tomorrow he would be the queen of all the genies. It’s tomorrow so the apartment should be empty. Neil finds Rouyaa and frees her and after that I got nothing. Rodger frees Blue and becomes her new master.
“Rodger frees Blue and becomes her new master.”
Blue is not a bottle genie, and has said things indicating that he is not subject to the same rules (and indeed, is contemptuous of those rule and of human “masters” generally). Blue would be exceptionally dangerous to someone claiming to be his Master, granting at most only the first three mandatory wishes in the most unpleasant ways possible. Rodge is in no way knowledgeable enough or clever enough to handle Blue with any degree of safety.Remember the two guys who got changed into lizard dogs?
Your assuming that Rodge is going to open the bottle that has Araceli in it. Remember that Rodge live in Coco Beach Florida and Caley lives in Orlando Florida or she live about 100 miles away from where Rodge lives. Unless Rodge goes to Orlando Florida to the house or apartment that Caley currently live at, he not going to have the opportunity to open Araceli bottle. Unless Neil tell Rodge that Araceli is Caley’s Genie, he won’t even know that even. Besides, he was only taking care of Caley as the dutiful uncle does even when they don’t want to do it.
My guess is the extradimensional add-on to the apartment no longer exists if Jean is no longer a genie. But I doubt that is the specific detail that concerns Jean in this strip.
I’m not sure we should entirely trust Jean right now. Big Blue turned those two guys into guard dogs and they apparently now willingly serve her. Jean has the same brand as those two guy/dogs and presumably is now the property of Big Blue based on what Araceli said. Jean may be forced into doing BB’s bidding by telling Neil and Rodge lies about what is going on. I figure BB has been around long enough to know that even the best laid plans sometimes go South and contingencies must be planned for and implemented. Creating Jean in human form maybe BB’s contingency plan just in case Neil and Rodge were to survive Lily.
I feel that Blue might be too arrogant to actually think his/her plan to off Neil would fail, otherwise he/she might have stuck around a bit longer. The two guy/dogs are undoubtedly under Blue’s direct control and are basically mindless beasts, but Blue probably wanted to punish Jeanie for resisting her control and being a general pain in the butt. Strip her powers, give her a helpless human body and discard her, not understanding the true nature of her relationship with Neil.
Well!Well!Well!we are in trouble aren’t we. Jean stripped of her magic not to mention her clothes and the genie world and the human world about to come under the Big Blue thumb with only Roger and Neil stand in his way.May be now that Jean is human and immune our two engineering would be hero’s could weaponise Jean’s moonshine(comic 313) as we have seen what effect it has on genies and save the day, but more like back fire and end in a badly executed Scooby doo trap.
At this point almost anything might be possible even Garlic around the Genie bottle might act as a counter to the Blue Djinn. How, I don’t know, but, everything is up in the air and may be possible when it comes to defeating the Blue Djinn.
I wonder if they could destroy Jean’s tome and that would kill Blue, since they are sharing one, but Jean would be left alive, all-be-it now powerless and stuck as a girl for the rest of her natural life.
Maybe that would be a last resort?
Because there must be a trap waiting there? Too late for Christina to save the day. Who is left the witch from a couple years ago whats her name?
the witch’s name is Sam. haven’t you ever watched Bewitched?
Sam thank you was more into Jeanie then Bewitch it was a lot more fun in my own opion.
Kazom might still be able to help, though he’s pretty busy with Melvin.
I figured that the story behind that news broadcast was covered in detail in
https://jeaniebottle.com/?comic=jeanie-bottle-538
“Well, well, well. Haji’s pet songbird.” etc.
But Blue capturing Asha doesn’t really jive with her then being found, unconscious, in her own apartment. So it seems to be some kind of plot that Blue is pulling. But who knows what.
Glad to see Jeanie up and communicating.
Right? It was scary, having her totally incommunicado for several weeks (real time).
Jean looks very malnourished
Yeah, she’s definitely looked better.
And yet, she wears the damsel in distress look very well indeed.
How long was she under Blue’s control, in her reference frame?
Not long… page 467 is when Blue uses Jeanie’s charms to steal one of the Hubun Jadid. That was about two days ago, Jeanie Bottle time.
@Mike: “two days ago, jeanie bottle time.”
But is that the same as how much time Jeanie herself experienced while in Blue’s control?

Well, Christina A. is a ‘Genie in a Bottle’ after all. Terrible late 90s joke. God, I’m old.
Someone’s complaining about being old after making a late 90s joke? God, I’m old.
Yeah, well I’m old enough to have watched “I Dream of Jeannie” before it was ever a rerun, and also old enough to have forgotten all of the details of it. (I even had to Google the spelling!)
I’m constantly amazed at how much the author and the commenters here know about that show!
Terrible joke, or intentional reference by the author?
Why can’t Neil return to the apartment? Remember that Jean used her magic to put Neils apartment inside his/her larger apartment? Since Jean is without her magic now, maybe the magic that made that topological contradiction has gone away, too–along with the apartment!

If her hair gets any longer she is going to start looking like Honey. She could join the Pixie Rangers. They have nice outfits.
Her hair has always been long, is just unusual to see it loose.
Jeanie hair is usually up in a bun where you don’t see how long is really is. But, when Jeanie let her hair down, that usually how long it really is.
I’m curious how Christina A. aka Asha the Genie could be the popular singer and celebrity without breaking this Law of the Great Djinn: “Genies are unable to be photographed or filmed” ?

So, the unconscious Christina’s body that was found was her doppelganger, cause real Christina had been captured by Blue Djinn.
Shouldn’t there be an “H” on the end of the “yea?”
Yea verily.
Not necessarily. Spelling it without the “h” is an accepted alternate spelling.

Looks like they are going to have to solve this problem the old “fashion way,” without magic.
Probably going to kick myself for missing it, but what’s the logo on the two coffee mugs? Is it for the company they work at? Looks kinda aerospacey.
Or Japanese
J2? Jupiter 2

Sorry bout that. I meant the Little Blue-Araceli. If she thinks Rodge is annoying now just wait until he is her master.
