Chapter: Story 09: I Dream of Technicolor
What’s this? Color?! I almost forgot what it was like.
Something seems a bit off, though…
I like how you have changed back to colour to indicate a time lapse.
I’m glad Sid and Andy are back together again after all these years.
Is it just me or does Rouyaa have a green tint
Maybe they are going for the Orion slave girl look from ST.
There’s a special stylesheet in place that is intentionally over-saturating all the colors on the page, as a callback to the early days of color TV.
Nice touch. I was actually about to post that the colors seem off now that it is back to color! I feel like reaching for the hue and tone dials!
So.. time skip hunh?
What was happened since we’ve been away!
I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for future comics to find that out. 🙂
Aw, too bad, I like the idea of the Orion Slave Girl as that was very Reto, goes back to the old ST days.
Wait until the Star Trek crossover; then you’ll get the Orion slave girl. And maybe a TG’d Gorn, as well. 😉
> And maybe a TG’d Gorn
Oh god why??
> Oh god why??
I dunno – maybe it would throw him off his game, if he suddenly had to go lay an egg.
On the other hand, a Gorn with PMS… scary.

He must be using Nerd Care‘s “minty green” formula.
Well, the only one of the threesome that needs to show up is Rouyaa and then it will be complete. Either that or there going to be talking about what happened to her. Like what happened to that Genie that you use to have?
Ummm…..is it me or has Andy not aged but Sid has????
Andy went from about his early 20s to his late 40s, while Sid is now well past middle age. CD’s style doesn’t lend itself well to differentiating between 20s and 40s, but does work for representing those past middle age (due to hair greying and wrinkles appearing).
If you look closely, you can see some lines under Andy’s eyes in the second panel. I figured that those were the beginning of wrinkles . . .
Is it just me, or does Andy look a lot like Neil, now that he is in color?
i see that too. it’s the wide open bewildered eyes.
Just an old Northeasterner blowin’ in from the Southwest…
Uh, weren’t they both North*western* students?
Ah phooey, I knew something seemed off about that. I don’t think there even *is* a university named Northeastern.
No, there is a Northeastern University as well. I read up a little on Northwestern yesterday and I learned that they trained a lot of military officers for WWII, so at least that is consistent with the story. CD did say he did some research for this arc, and I assume this is a reflection of that.
Weren’t these 2 both students at North*western*?
Northwestern University is in the Chicago area. Chicago is in a section of the country sometimes called the “Old Northwest”. It goes way back to the days when the United States ended at the Mississippi.
Yes, I know why the college got its name, and early in this storyline the 2 guys were heading off to Northwestern for college. I assume it was a typo in the dialog and Sid was talking about his pal being a Northwesterner.
Yeah, but evidently Andy is originally from the north-eastern part of the country. Hence a “northeasterner”.
Nope, just a typo, as ranck suspected. It’s fixed, now.
Well, we now know that Rouyaa isn’t a blonde like Jean.
Disbanding that squadron may have counted against Rouyaa as interfering with the war. I suspect she has a finite amount of magical ability left and is only using it in dire need.
At First I thought it was Neil except the Hair is Different
OK, since it’s still NASA and “Accounting” is in English, and the US is still on track to get to the moon before 1970, I am guessing that not much was changed in WWII.
I would assume that the timeline that we already have is the one that resulted from whatever changes were made . . .
Anybody want to bet that Andy and Rouyaa now have a child who is really the parent of one of our “present-day” cast?
would explain JEAN
Ooo, interesting idea! I wonder if that’s true? (I honestly don’t know.)
If it us true I wonder if that will make Jean special in a way
@Ben: Jean already IS special. “Special”, as in, “rode the short school bus.”
It’s a possibility. But I don’t think it could be either Jean or Neil because neither one of them thought that bottle looked familiar when Jean found it in that second-hand-store/garage sale/whatever. Even if Ryouyaa has a grandchild who doesn’t know she is or used to be a genie, I think he’d recognize Granny’s bottle.
Say, you know, unlike in the original series, our Roger hasn’t seen Jean’s bottle yet, has he?
Like the rest of us, I presume, I hope Rouyaa is still alive, but the most explanation for that bottle being empty and for sale would be that Ryouyaa passed on leaving behind no one alive who knew she was once the genie of that bottle. Roger could fit well because we already know he has at least one sibling old enough to be raising a child and (we hope) more responsible than Roger. And, thus, more likely to wind up stuck with Granny Rae’s brick-a-brack. This could provide several plot possibiities, such as:
ROGER: So this is your bottle?
JEAN: Yes, and don’t even think about grabbing it.
ROGER: Not even thinking about it. [Pictures himself turned into a girl in a harem costume.] Say, funny thing, this looks just like a bottle I remember Grandma Rae had.
AND:
AGENT ANDERSON: I’d like to talk to you about your drug test.
ROGER: Drug test? I haven’t been using any drugs! [Since college, he adds in his own mind.]
AGENT ANDERSON: We didn’t find any drugs, but we did find some green corpuscles.
Well, they never actually said where they got the bottle from. We only know that it was not in Jean’s apartment, since they could not get into it at first. So, maybe it was at Neil’s place?
And they might not recognize the bottle, because they might not have seen it before. People tend to collect a lot of things. And the more sentimental things they tend to keep stored and hidden. Which I am sure that bottle would have been.
Not sure Roger would fit, because as far as I cam tell he is only a friend from work of Neil.
Or perhaps Ms Eden’s first name is Rouyaa
I’m still going on the assumption that the empty bottle is/was Rouyaa’s sister’s bottle. They would probably look similar. So GI picks it up in Germany as a souvenir and it gets stashed in an attic after he comes home to resurface years later after said GI passes on and his family clears out the old house . . . that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it until it gets disproven. 😉
ACK! OH, MY EYES!! THEY BURN!!!
The saturation! It burns us! IT BURRRRNS USSSS.
So I take it, some people are AGAINST the Saturation level?
Honestly, I’m only against it when it comes to the comments section. From Avatars to the Username links. Maybe the blueish purple box for admins/mods. But for the comic and the title bar? it’s fine. If I were to give any major complaint, it would be the background is a little too bright, but that’s less an issue with the Saturation, and more of an issue in general with that background.
I don’t mind it since it is just for this part of the story.
I originally commented that Rouyaa looked a bit green, but as has been explained it’s part of the story line so I’m OK with it.
There are some errors on the first four pages.
