Chapter: Story 09: I Dream of Technicolor
I sure hope Rouyaa did more than making a letter appear. Otherwise, those guys are gonna get in big trouble for disobeying orders…

That’s a good trick. Time travel?
Huh, I never noticed this. Apparently the first date is always the date the comic is scheduled to go live at, regardless of when you actually create or edit the post.
Ooooooops.
I don’t know that much of specific historical events during WW2 but would this impact anything serious for the USA’s side?
Plus if the colonel there is surprised, wait until Roosevelt hears about this letter of “his”.
I’d hope they had enough sense to get this suspicious letter confirmed before acting on it.
See here; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidney_Sheldon
“In 1937, Sheldon moved to Hollywood, California, where he reviewed scripts and collaborated on a number of B movies. Sheldon enlisted in the military during World War II as a pilot in the War Training Service, a branch of the Army Air Corps. His unit was disbanded before he saw any action.”
Oh, and BTW, his mother’s name was “Natalie.”
Well, with how magic works, it should all be covered since it wasn’t a specific wish.
I wonder if this wish counts towards his three? Since he never actually made it. He said just if he did. And she didn’t even look like she was aware of doing it.
Poor girl… She needs to be made happy.
To quote Timmy Turner.. “Like I’d wish I was a girl… What a waste of a wish!”
Poof
“Well you said I wish then girl”
“Yep, says right here: ‘Dennis Roosevelt, Commander In Chief’.” Rouyaa needs to bone up a little on her current events.
In IDOJ there was an episode when, after getting Roger out of a jam, Major (or perhaps Captain) Nelson explains that one of Jeannie’s powers is changing time. However, I don’t remember if she did that in any other episode.
However, Rouyaa may not have needed to change time here. Besides creating the letter itself, her magic might have given Roosevelt the memory of sending it.
I don’t know if modifying humans’ memories like that steps over the line on the prohibition on mind control.
“These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.”
Didn’t strip 378 just say that meddling in the human war was cursed with death bad?
I didn’t notice the number, but it did say that any genie meddling with the war would be accursed.
Well, I remember reading that at one time there was a program for officer training going on during WWII. Sometime in 1944, somebody decided they didn’t need officers training in the states, but privates in Europe. So they canceled the program and sent them there—most wound up in the Battle of the Bulge.
This that, or its reverse? [Be careful what you might wish for…]
I’m wondering about the position of Rouyaa’s arms in the first panel. Is she meant to be taking that pose that Barbara Eden used when doing her magic (arms folded, nod head, magical blink)? Or is she wrapping her arms around her master’s arm?
Also, “UH-huh” suggests to me that Rouyaa isn’t aware she’s granting a wish; more like she’s just sharing Master’s concern. Kind of like Jean with coffee and then eggs her first morning as a genie.
Based on how Rouyaa’s arm positions have changed since the last panel of the previous comic, it seems like she’s wrapped her right arm more tightly around Andy’s arm, and is using her right hand to cast the spell.
I’m fairly certain she’s doing this on purpose. If her sister is going to be cursed she wants to be cursed too. That would explain why her totem was empty.
actually thats a pretty broad wish that could be interpreted and granted in a lot of different ways. matter of fact the way she granted it wouldn’t even work. just because he isn’t going with the war training service doesn’t “keep him safe” Even keeping him out of the war completely wouldn’t keep him safe, short of granting him total invulnerability.
Well yes, but both Andy and Rouyaa understood that his meaning was to keep Sid safe FROM THE WAR, so making sure that he stays Stateside would be a good way of accomplishing that without having to guard him against attacks.
So Rouyaa can grant wishful wishes that aren’t really wishes without really thinking about it. That could cause some really big problems for Rouyaa in the future.
For some reason I feel like the guy in the last panel is supposed to look familiar to us somehow. Like we’ve seen him before or something.
He looks a bit like Errol Flynn.
So THAT’S why her bottle was empty. Now we just need a victim for her sister’s bottle.
I am pretty damn sure that dismantling a unit has an impact on the war effort, meaning that this a direct violation to the rules given to djinn, however small it may be.
Uh oh.
Well, someone broke that ‘don’t meddle in the war’ rule.
True but she’s under Kazom’s rule not Guano’s so I’m sure nothing to bad will happen to her.
Awww no female Sidney.
Sid as a WAC, but would she really be safe?
Hmmm. Well, adjusting for 1940s attitudes, a suddenly female Sid might be:
*Arrested for impersonating the “real” Sid (and possibly accused of doing away with him)
*Kicked out of the Army for impersonating a man to get into combat (something that has happened now and then.)
*Put in an asylum and possibly lobotomized to “cure” the delusion that she’s a man. (Lobotomies were really popular back then; the Nobel Prize was given to a lobotomist in that era.)
A WAC would be safer than a Marine that are invading the beaches in the Pacific or Normandy Invasion in Europe or in the front lines where there shooting each other. Most of those WAC are usually in the rear area’s and generally man those hospitals which are generally or maybe 100 miles or so behind the line. So a WAC isn’t absolutely 100% safe, but, there relatively safe compared to the rest of the army or Marines which do most of the fighting.
But, for all intents and purposes, they are safe, except where there is an unexpected surprise attack like Pear Harbor.
My guess is they will be reassigned into something else, something domestic related.
So are Andy and Ray in a relationship now? Or is that how most female genies act when with a male master?
It’s quite possible most female genies will get into relationship with any master who don’t spent his wishes in first few hours.
