Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
I think that Luke is in a genie costume just in case there was cause for somebody to rub the “third genie bottle” in order to prove that it was the real deal–just as Cooter rubbed the “second bottle” and had Bo appear and play the part of a genie.
Why would she be? Genies like her aren’t bound to specific masters, they’re bound to the lamp (or whatever vessel they reside in). If Boss Hogg were able to get the lamp back, he’d be able to make his two additional wishes, but losing possession of the lamp has always meant losing any remaining wishes until you get it back.
If you are going by mythical genies, then the whole point of the three wishes is the genie being grateful because you freed them from being bound in a bottle, but that doesn’t have a lot or relevance to this comic.
You really should review the Laws of the Great Djinn, you know. Jean is bound to her totem, and whoever possesses the totem is her master, but there’s nothing about the totem being bound to anyone. I suspect that if they had tried to take the lamp away from Boss Hogg by force, he would still have been considered her master and could have made wishes, but he intentionally handed it over to Neil before he made three valid wishes.
I think you are right that Jeannie needs to grant Boss 2 more wishes. Now if handled carefully, she can just grant him some simple meaningless wish, like, “I wish I had a ham sandwich” without him realizing what’s going on. Or, maybe she’s not *really* cured/healed and the hat is just another symptom? I don’t remember any rule stating lose the bottle lose the wishes. The act of letting the genie out requires the 3 wishes, so losing the bottle may not affect that. Or, it might, we just don’t know.
Per the Laws of the Great Djinn: “Totem Possession – Whomever possesses a Genie’s totem is the Genie’s master. A Genie must follow the 3 Wishes law for new masters.”
Boss Hogg no longer possesses Jean’s totem, therefore he is no longer Jean’s master. As soon as he handed it over to Neil, Neil became Jean’s master again. The fact that Boss Hogg didn’t use all his wishes before giving up his totem is irrelevant.
I can’t help but wonder if the reason for the white hat is some sort of indication that Boss Hogg’s first wish is still in effect. i.e. Jean may not be able to undo it, even by a wish by her new/old ‘Master’. The wish is one of the ‘three wishes’ granted to a master, and Neil wishing the Duke girls back to guys to undo the Hogg wish is just a genie granted ‘poof’, and may not be strong enough to challenge an official ‘master’ 3-wish.
Only one thing do we know for sure. When she was working with Hogg, she turned white. She is still a little white. My guess is it’s a mark that shows ‘wishes owed’ if he gets the bottle back. The question is… Does he need the bottle…?
Jeannie is really bad at remembering who she turned into girls. There’s a reason there is an offshoot comic from this comic featuring a certain redhead.
I don’t think the spin-off “features” Red so much as that she’s an incidental character there. Then again, I stopped reading it a while back, so maybe it’s changed..?
One of the many rules of wishing is you cant kill someone or bring someone back to life. That being said, gender bending the Duke boys was pretty much the only option, besides teleporting them somewhere else, or turning them into something else entirely.
It also might be a good idea to find out what Jeannie is allergic to, so it can be avoided in the future. If it’s something new, Jeannie might even get points with Lord Guano by warning him about it.
Of course, in finding out, she might get exposed to it and start sneezing again, maybe fitting out Boss Hogg and Roscoe to work as pretty barmaids alongside Daisy.
Neil to the rescue, to get everything straighten out. to get the Duke boy back to being girls and get the General Lee back on the road. Oh, yes, she still has a white hat, which mean we are still going to have to deal with Boss Hogg too.
It would be amusing if Jean accidentally ‘made them normal’ by making them be stereotypical genies who are actually loyal to their master rather than Jean and her ‘rival’.
The problem is, if Bo and Luke actually become Genie’s, then there Genie for life and there can’t be any reversal. So they can only play act being Genie’s and not actually become Genie’s. Then there condition will be permanent and can’t be reversed. As far as the white hat, I am thinking that there going to have to make a deal with Boss Hogg to be able to change both Bo and Luke back to boy’s. Which would add a different twist to this story. They have Boss Hogg by the throat and he has them by the throat and neither side will give in.
My guess on the white hat thing is that even though Hogg has relinquished possession of the bottle, Jean is technically still under contract to him until somebody new claims a contract by rubbing the bottle.
I think it was Araceli who created the bottle top when she wanted to contain Jeanie in her bottle. But, Jeanie bottle top was specially created for her bottle by another Genie.
Luke: Change us back now.
Bo: Wait a minute, I want to check something. Turn around.
(Mmmmm…Oh yeah….They’re perfect…)
Luke: Bo?
Bo: Ahem… Ok… Now change us back.
The art quality on this strip is excellent. Great character body language in panels 2-3, wonderful depth in panel 4, smoke transparencies in panels 1 & 3. Overall just a big quality bump, great job.
I think you’ll really like Thursday’s comic this week (yes, it’s a bonus comic week!). The last panel shows Jean in an especially expressive stance that really struck me when I first saw it.
I am reminded of the X-Files episode where Moulder gets wishes from a genie. The genie became one by wishing for great power and long life. I suspect the same could happen to Boss Hog.
Something interesting to note: her hat is still white. Weird.
Yeah. That’s a bit ominous.
Wow, I didn’t even notice this while editing.
Is it still white in the next one or was this just an accident?
NO… how do we know CD made this comic if his name is covered! ¬_¬
Robert does not have the next comic… and yep… suppose to be white…
Interesting. So we know that her cap is suppose to be white in the next comic. Looking forward to finding out why that it is.
Ok, now that’s REALLY ominous. 🙁
Is it significant that Jean’s hat stayed white when she poofed the rest of her genie costume back to its normal colors?
Edit: Ninja’d
Why is Luke in a genie outfit?
Back up plan? If I was doing something like this I would have a few back up plans.
At least Neil told her it was part of a back up plan when he insisted she put it on.

Somehow I don’t expect that this will lead to Jeannie remembering any other forgotten changies either.
Heh, Jeanie almost forgot to change people back again.
Well I wonder if she is still bound to boss till he gets his final wish

Wow… someone actually READ the information page…
I knew I wrote that for a reason.

The latest storyline is having her deal with being accidentally magically deboobed while still remaining a girl.
of course they’re not gonna just let a certain fat man go unpunished…

That was only in Disney’s Aladin. In the myths, genies had no problem with killing.

Why did BOTH dress up like genies?

It was already explained in this comment section that Jean is not bound to Hoss.
Hm.. looking at Jennie’s hat… What ever happened to her bottle top? Her bottle didn’t start with one it sort of.. Appeared?
I think it was Araceli who created the bottle top when she wanted to contain Jeanie in her bottle. But, Jeanie bottle top was specially created for her bottle by another Genie.
“Yeah! Turn us back into guys!”
“Yeah!”
“But first let me take some pictures of myself!”
“Yeah! Wait, what?”
Great minds think alike…nearly.
Luke: Change us back now.
Bo: Wait a minute, I want to check something. Turn around.
(Mmmmm…Oh yeah….They’re perfect…)
Luke: Bo?
Bo: Ahem… Ok… Now change us back.
What are the odds that when the Duke girls are changed into boys that Daisy is affected as well? 🙂
Zero, I hope!
I don’t think Jeannie swings that way.
is it wrong that i’m hoping for hilarity to ensue by the duke boys still being in the costumes?
Jean seems to forget to turn people back a lot.
That happens a lot when you only have one brain cell floating around in your skull.
I honestly wonder what Belle ever saw in Jean.
The sex, obviously.

In Disney’s Darby O’Gill the king of the leprechauns tricks Darby into making a fourth wish, causing previous wishes to be voided.
In The Man Who Could Work Miracles he screws up so badly he wishes he never had that ability.
