Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
Why? They totally had it coming. Gene may not be a GREAT person, but they were being quite horrid. And besides, it’s not nearly as horrible as what they were going to do to her. The first wanted her to be his slave forever, the second, to imprison her in the bottom of the ocean indefinitely. Gene turned the first guy into a woman but she’s free and not in anyone’s servitude, and the second guy may be female too but just got like 30 years of his/her life back.
She isn’t dictating wishes as far as I can see. She granted the wishes, now she’s going to order the crew around. But they aren’t her “master” since they didn’t rub the bottle, thus she doesn’t have to tell them what to wish. She can just threaten them.
It must be good for Jeanie to feel so powerful for the first time in this story. Let’s see how does she deal with it and let’s see for how long it lasts (I guess for no longer than #186…)
I suspect, though I have no direct proof in this comic, that a genie can not poof their bottle about from place to place. If so, Areceli or Jean would have done so already. Or, even Lord Guano would have poofed Areceli’s bottle to Neil’s apartment. I think there must be special rules for bottles. So I’m guessing Jean will have one of the fishermen put her bottle into a FedEx package shipped to Neil.
I’m not sure of this, but only the person who releases the genie from her bottle gets the 3 wishes, and since Jean is already out of the bottle, just picking it up and/or rubbing would not obligate her. So, they really need to be cautious facing a powerful magic wielding being.
I wonder if there have been any other genies like Jean who have taken this kind of attitude towards mortals. And if her fellow genies have a ‘enough is enough’ line. Since there aren’t a bunch of genies running around bullying and threatening humans to do what THEY want.
Also, if she’s supposed to be a motherly like Genie, but acts like a total jerk, does that mean her instincts haven’t kicked in, or is that purely a cultural thing?
Oh come now…do you really think making them years younger, incredibly rich, and giving them a woman captain is that bad? The new female captain had it coming when he tried to force Jean to become his wife.
Or are you in favor of magically forced sex slavery?
As for the new “Little Girl”, that’s easily reversed (it was self defense, and not part of a wish) and could easily have been worse…she could have turned him into a labrador retriever.
You can make the argument that turning the fisherman into a woman so she can have her own sons is legit. That’s the sort of thing that fits right in with the standard genie stories. Plus, he did sort of deserve some sort of karmic retribution for what he tried to force Jean into.
The other fisherman, the one who was turned into a little girl, not really. Jean already has a history of “fire-and-forget” (Melvin’s friend), so it doesn’t seem likely that that character gets restored without outside intervention (or Jean acting a little out of character).
Unless the focus pops back to Neil and Araceli, the next few strips may be crucial in showing how “abusive and ugly” Jean is going to be. If “Here’s what’s going to happen” isn’t much more than “send me back to where I belong and let me speak English again,” it won’t be nearly as bad as it is building up to. (Except for the new little girl.) On the other hand, if Jean is abusing her power for other things, I imagine that GrimGhost might not be the only one saying sayonara.
Well, I’m sorry to lose you as a reader GrimGhost.
This has basically been Jean’s personality type since the beginning. Jean looks out for him/herself and doesn’t really give a (bleep) about anyone else.
Hopefully you’ll change your mind and come back. If not, I hope you enjoy other comics out there.
Awww…well, for every reader you lose, you gain four more…There have been times I didn’t like the story, and later it makes sense, so I usually wait it out. THIS storyline is just HILARIOUS…a teensy bit on the dark side, tho not enough to lose me…Seriously, this story is just starting to get AWESOME, looking forward to more! Keep it up! Your style has gotten to a point where you can crank it out, and the expressions and poses make up for minor typos, and the story itself has ALWAYS been great, keep smiling and keep it up!
Haha, seriously I said it before and I’ll say it again, if I was in that situation, those two would not have gotten off that easy. Those of you who are trying to take the moral high ground, how would you feel about some douche forcing you to be his obediant waifu who has to get this bald guy a beer and have sex with him whenever he wants? And yeah going back in the ocean for another thousand years doesnt sound too fun either. I probably wouldve turned the second guy into a pony, yes, I would turn him into Fluttershy. that would teach him to mess with other peoples bottles!
She needs to get that bottle express shipped to he home in the US. And yes, the fishermen did earn this abuse. Ordinary people can be very ugly people when you think it’s ok for them to be that way.
What I’d like to know is…he wished for Jean to “Make me a beautiful wife” – so who is “she” now married to? in order to be a beautiful “wife”, she would have to be married…maybe to the previous boat captain?
At this point, I strangely imagine a character with a protagonist mentality, wanting to sink their own ship to keep this monster from reaching civilization (from their point of view).
Jean probably just wants to get back to the US. Not hard to have his/her bottle shipped back. After that its no longer those sailors problem. Could be bad if those Greeks get back to port and some US Navy sailors get a hold of the bottle.
dont like this 🙁

Oh, okay. I didn’t understand what happened in the last comic, now I get it.
I love Jeannie’s pose in the first panel. She looks really threatening.
I’m fairly sure dictating wishes to the bottle holder is in direct
violation of Da Rules (Genie edition).
I’d recommend “get to port before sinking” “convert one gold fish to cash”
“carry the bottle to Neil’s home in the USA”
She isn’t dictating wishes as far as I can see. She granted the wishes, now she’s going to order the crew around. But they aren’t her “master” since they didn’t rub the bottle, thus she doesn’t have to tell them what to wish. She can just threaten them.
Right. Jean hasn’t broken any rules.
Hey, You gotta watch your wishes around Genies…like, for example,
“Make me a happy meal” – that could explain a lot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi1yy4VyZZk
“Ah, no we’re good.”
Always the correct answer. 😉
‘First, you’re going to wish me into speaking english so my friend can freaking UNDERSTAND ME!’
Second, one of you are marying this fine woman over here and adopting this kid!

Technically, Jean hasn’t harmed the two men she transformed.
If anything, she’s extended their lives.
My first name is Greek it means Guardian.
Okay, I’m a little confused…where, exactly, is Jean’s bottle and second why hasn’t she been forced to return to it?
They only get forced to return on relatively rare occasions. Several of those have required Guano to do it personally.
I’m sorry, but you’ve lost me as a reader.
What Jean is doing is abusive and ugly, and it’s not funny at all.
Oh come now…do you really think making them years younger, incredibly rich, and giving them a woman captain is that bad? The new female captain had it coming when he tried to force Jean to become his wife.

Now there’s two Greek sailors with a future… in their original shapes even 🙂

I keep thinking that Lord Guano is going to be showing up anytime now. He’s been awfully negligent in his supervision of this young genie.
Of course, counting on him to put things right is a bit risky, too, given his earlier .. mistakes .. with Neil.
I’m a non-luck tryer. Nor a mother crabber. I am, however, a button-shirt-haver.
