Happy Birthday to Barbara Eden
Happy Birthday to Barbara Eden.
This Extra pic features Neil and Jeanie in their TV counterparts roles.
For the next couple weeks, The header will reflect the Original I Dream of Jeannie intro style in honor of Barbara Eden’s Birthday,
it’s amazing, and nostalgic.
Yes. Happy birthday. I should dig out my DVDs of the series and watch a few episodes.
Happy birthday Barbara.
A very nice tribute. Thanks CD and thank YOU, Barbara.
I will also wish Barbara a Very Happy Birthday! It’s my Birthday too!
Hippo Birdies Ms. Eden!
Happy Birthday Barbara, you have brought us all so much magic over the years, may your special day do the same for you.
Happy Birthday Barbra Eden the original genie and all the magical adventures you took us on.
Barbera Eden? he, any pretty girl could have done her role. The star of I Dream of Jeannie was Larry Hagman
Sacrilege!
Well, my two favorite bits from the show involve Hayden Rorke as Dr. Bellows…but the show as a whole wouldn’t have worked without Barbara Eden.
The show wouldn’t have worked without a pretty girl to play Jeannie.
But imagine if they halfway in the show had decided to do what they did in the fresh prince of Bel-Air and fired Barbera fro someone younger and prettier then her.
They could easily have gotten away with it, and much easier then the other show did, as they could have explained her change in appearance on magic.
She was an annoying bitch. Lets be real her, a detractor from the show, of course the director shared a lot of the blame on this, but a more mellowed out charecter would have been an improvement
I can’t find any reference validating the opinion that Barbara was annoying or a bitch. Larry Hagman, however, was a long-time alcoholic and has admitted that he was drunk in many of the episodes that aired on TV. He hated the role and threatened to quit unless he got a raise to make up for it.
I don’t know how either of them were off the set, and I don’t really care, her character were annoying, but I also said that was mostly the directors fault.
But Larry Hagman went on to doing greater things, while Barbera Eden never got another substantive role after the show.
We have seen that before. Sitcom actors who were known for that one role and nothing more.
The fact is that Hollywood is a cruel and merciless place, and I don’t understand why anyone would have anything to do with it
1) you can flop and be forced to quite (that’s the best outcome)
2) you can have small roles your entire life but never that big “breakthough”
3) you can be a one trick wonder like Barbera Eden (that is properly the worst outcome) or
4) you can be a mayor hit and end up being a headliner in many films (but as a result have no privacy or genuine relationships)
Whenever I see a show, I do my best to not see the person at all but only the character, as it is simply too painful to look at these universally tortured souls. The only way to win, is choosing not to play. Don’t be an actor.
Also remember: fame is the downside of fortune.
Fortune is what we want, fame is something we often can’t completely avoid, but it is inherently bad
There was the Harper Valley P. T. A. movie and show.
“I don’t know how either of them were off the set, and I don’t really care, her character were annoying, but I also said that was mostly the directors fault.”
So, you are equating what the writers and director did with Barbara’s character on the show with an opinion of her personality? I agree with your 4 points statement about Hollywood, but I have to disagree about Barbara never getting another substantive role. Her filmography is very long, both on film and television, and she performed on stage. She even managed to release 2 albums and 4 singles.
I think you are attributing the attitude of the character she was portraying to her own personality. Over my many decades, I have read several articles where people have just had accidental encounters with Ms. Eden and in everyone of them she has been reported as being a very nice person IRL. I remember specifically one of those articles being in Mustang Monthly where (if I recall correctly) one of the editors saw a beautiful 1971 or 72 Mustang in a parking lot and he thought it was pretty enough to feature in their Daily Driver section so he waited around for the owner to show up to talk to them. It turned out to be Ms. Eden and she was happy to show them her car. So instead of doing a one page article, they ended up doing a full spread on the car and her. That issue was published in the 1990’s, but I don’t remember exactly. I may still have it.
Everyone is welcome to there opinion.
One may find a person annoying, while others do not. Barbara has have a vast career. Though she didn’t have many featured roles after the I Dream of Jeannie TV show, so did work pretty regularly in roles in movies, TV and other media. Many actors work in a feature role and never go on to play a feature role again. It’s the nature of the Hollywood beast.
I Dream of Jeannie has endured the test of time, living in syndication, parodies and tribute since it’s initial release. There are a number of classic TV shows that have also done this, but compared to the number of shows made back then and since, many more have not.
I don’t think IDOJ could have been successful without all the cast. Barbara, Larry and all the regulars. Larry Hagman did reportedly have a few issues on set. He often thought the show was suppose to be about his character, as he believed his character was the “I” that dreamed of Jeannie. It’s also well documented and he had admitted he didn’t like the Blonde Genie was a more popular character then he was.
As I indicated, people are welcome to there opinions, but I do question the wisdom on criticizing someone on a blog that is wishing that person a “Happy Birthday.” Seems a little like the intent when you comment in this fashion is to say, “Happy Birthday, oh, I think you’re annoying and shouldn’t have been on that show you are known for.”
This doesn’t seem like a classy move.
Are you kidding? Hagman doesn’t look NEARLY as good in a harem costume. 😉
But Barbara Eden’s navel was never shown in the series. For some reason, broadcast standards required them to conceal it with cosmetics and a plug.
Incorrect. The studio executives either didn’t care or notice until season 3 when it was pointed out by a censor. After that it had to be covered. (IMDB-IDoJ Trivia)
Happy Birthday Barbara
She still looks good at 93 years old. Hope that doesn’t jinxes her health. I once had the teenage hormonal overload for Dawn Wells. Look how she ended up.
Happy Birthday to her.
Where do you find past web site headers for event here on the site like on this birthday image?
Also Nice art!
