Wow Jean just seems evil in this page….

Well, the Captain did just try to force Jean into marrying him, so TG’ing him is morally justifiable, but Jean’s actions in the first panel of this page are just adding insult to injury. The “change the other sailor into a little girl” bit was mainly a matter of trying to avoid being lost at sea for possibly years to come–Jean may turn her back once she feels safe from such a fate.

No she isn’t. she is defending herself.
First against rape (the captain) and now against wrongful imprisonment.

Well if I was in her situation I probably would have done the same thing. In hindsite maybe it would be more humane to just teleport the bottle somplace safe, but I didn’t think of that immediately and most people probably wouldnt either, the most normal gut reaction would be to do something to the guy throwing the bottle. He’s lucky, if it was me I would have turned him into something without opposable thumbs, maybe turn him into a pony.

I think Jeanie, and all genies for that matter, can’t effect their own totems. Otherwise why would the bottle being in the ocean be a problem? Just teleport it back to shore.

I think your bound to grant wishes to whoever rubs/finds your bottle he was just throwing it away. Not the brightest move considering what just happened to his new mum. Be interesting to see if she can convince them to help her get back to her real master.

Genies are bound to grant wishes for their masters, but I don’t think there’s any particular restriction on what they do aside from the wishes.

Now, if the man-turned-little-girl was smart, she’d grab the bottle, wish to be back in her original form, and then wish for the bottle to be “far away”.

    • Regal
      Regal
      January 13, 2013 at 12:13 pm | #

That could actually work out well, as Jean would be granting the wish and “far away” could be interpreted as Jean’s apartment building.

True this could happen, but you are forgetting something. You are assuming that these guy’s (I mean girls) are smart enough to think of this. Plus they are going to have to be careful on how they word the wish or it could back fire on them again.

Wouldn’t a wish be something Jean could not change? It would seem pointless for one to make a wish and it could be undone at the whim of the djinni afterwords.

We’ve already repeatedly seen djinni undo poofs. For instance, she turned neil into a girl and dropped him at a strip club. And there were multiple objects brought to neil’s workplace, aracelli taking him to the tower of london, etc.

The “girl” “captain” should ask the “little girl” to rub the bottle and wish
    that they be restored.

I see the boat is still a little low in the water.
    At least they’re still rich!

How about putting Spontaneous Human Combustion in the comic by having Jean grant wishes in which a person bursts into flames without warning and burns to ash.

I have to say I have mixed feelings about this page. At first I thought the cautious guy was turned into a girl in panel 3…only to discover that this was only part of the process that ended in the last panel! Took me a while to figure that out.

Looks like the Captain’s going to be a single mother. The little girl looks just like her. The girl should be careful, though, with her stuffed animal. Trying to throw away Jean’s bottle was a very foolish thing to do with the Djinni watching, and a fool and her bunny are soon parted.

The wish included “dutiful wife,” although the theoretical husband may have just become a daughter.

Turning guys into girls is easier than turning girls into guys. Concidering every one was female, briefly, in the womb.

While we saw Eva Braun was allowed to abuse her magic to heck and back even if it ended up costing her LIFE to grant the Nazis their victories, at least she was doing it for the sake of her master (we can assume).

I wonder if the other genies at any point pull the reigns on any genies who abuse their magic when it’s NOT in service of a master. Or whether they figure that using magic slowly but surely brings them closer to final oblivion/the afterlife (depending whether they die or simply cease to exist).

While Jean’s actions may seem justifiable from her point of view, look at them from the crew’s perspective. The genre savvy ones would think logically that they’re in an installment of “The Wish Master” and are RIGHT to toss Jean back into the ocean to prevent her from spreading more misery to others.

And I don’t think it was ever said anywhere that Jean was a three-wish genie, so she’s just blowing smoke.

Nah worst she’s done is turn one master into a girl when he tried trapping her as a wife pretty much deserved his fate and one random crew member into a girl to prevent him throwing her back into the ocean more of a gut reaction than anything else. Wishmaster goes out of his way to twist wishes (and in later episodes really doesn’t even do a good job) in order to kill the wishee.

Panel two: “this djinni” should be “this djinn”–”djinni” is the plural.

Generally speaking, djinni _are_ trouble (note the proverb, “be careful what you wish for”). Why do you think the legend has King Solomon imprisoning them all (at least the ones on this plane of existence; they have their own as well) in bottles? The Seal of Solomon is used to this day to denote the concealment or restriction of secret things or things that should not be allowed to escape, in fact.

Gotta wonder … is “fun bags” a Greek slang term as well.

I do hope that Jean gets over the whole “turning you into a girl is a punishment” and “let’s all objectify women” parts of his personality. It does make the comic a bit unpleasant to read at times…

Please, let’s not make this comic be politically correct.

The point of the humor is, Gene-turned-Jeanie sees guy-turned-into-girl as a punishment, because (s)he thinks of her own girlification as something awful. It Jeanie spent a wild night of passion with Brad Pitt and so decided that being a shapely blonde was wonderful, CD Rudd would have to come up with a new punishment for Jeanie to dole out. Well, the art would likely not be so funny for “guy gets a surprise tax audit.”

That guy that tried to throw away the bottle strikes me as kind of stupid. Jean didn’t try to screw them over, and gave them exactly what they wanted. she only turned on the captain when the captain tried to screw HER over. Its to be expected if you try to screw over an omnipotent being, you are going to get screwed.
